D. Installation of Test Equipment
NOTE: Use the applicable items from the102-01171 KIT-HELIUM DETECTION to install the test equipment.
   (1) Make sure the area around the leak is clean and dry.
   (2) On the external surface of the fuel tank, attach a suitable artificial compression chamber along the leak area with:
  • Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) .
NOTE: The artificial compression chamber is made from a suitable BAG - PLASTIC.
   (3) Attach the helium pipe to the artificial compression chamber with Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) .
   (4) Connect the helium pipe to the control unit (1).
   (5) Connect the helium supply to the control unit (1).
NOTE: Airbus recommends that industrial helium of 97 percent concentration is used for the leak test.
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-11-00-790-070-A
A. Leak Test of the Fuel Tanks - Without Fuel - Helium Procedure
   (1) Set the control unit (1) to supply the helium to the artificial compression chamber.
   (2) Operate the control unit (1) to start the test.
NOTE: The system will automatically increase the pressure to 0.2 bar (2.90 psi).
   (3) Check the artificial compression chamber and seal all the helium leaks with the aluminum tape.
   (4) Inside the tank, use the leak detector to find the internal leak point. Start at a position that is opposite the external leak and move the detector along adjacent stringers and ribs. Do this until the exit for the helium is found.
NOTE: A fuel leak can track for a long distance in the aircraft structure.
   (5) Do the necessary repair procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 51-76-12-300-001).
