A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank, (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001). and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.
   (4) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Defuel the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position below the applicable access panel at zone 540(640).
   (2) For panel 540NB ( 640NB) or 540PB ( 640PB):
   (3) For panel 540PB ( 640PB):
  • Remove the bolts (13) and the flap-track fairing support-bracket (12).

D. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) below the applicable access panel, zone 540(640).
   (2) For panels 540NB(640NB) or 540PB(640PB):

Subtask 57-27-11-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: YOU MUST REMOVE AND INSTALL THE BOLTS IN THE SPECIFIED SEQUENCE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ACCESS PANEL.
A. Removal of the Access Panel
NOTE: If you cannot remove the bolts (10) easily, use the 98A53003500000 REMOVAL TOOL OF PHILLIPS TORQUE or the 98A57304002000 EXTRACTION, MANHOLE BOLT.
   (1) Remove the bolts (10) in the sequence AF thru A.
NOTE: The access panels (11) do not all have the same quantity of the bolts (10), but the sequence of removal is the same.
   (2) Carefully remove the access panel (11).
   (3) Identify the access panel (11) with a LABEL - IDENTIFICATION.
   (4) For the access panel 540RB(640RB):
  • put a COVER - PROTECTION around the magnetic level indicator.
   (5) For the access panel 540HB(640HB):
  • put a COVER - PROTECTION around the pressure relief outlet.
   (6) For the access panel 550CB(650CB):
  • put a COVER - PROTECTION around the overpressure protector.
NOTE: If it is necessary to remove the overpressure protector from the access panel 550CB(650CB), refer to the (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-000-001).
   (7) For the access panel 550AB(650AB):
     (a) Put a COVER - PROTECTION around the NACA vent intake.

CAUTION: YOU MUST REMOVE AND INSTALL THE BOLTS IN THE SPECIFIED SEQUENCE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ACCESS PANEL.
A. Removal of the Access Panel
