A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001) when you do work in a fuel tank.
   (2) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Drain the fuel from the applicable vent surge tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) below the applicable NACA vent intake 550AB 650AB.
   (2) Remove the applicable wing access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002):
  • 550BB, for the left wing
  • 650BB, for the right wing.
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-12-47-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the NACA Vent Intake
   (1) Remove and discard the cable ties (10).
   (2) Remove the nut (7) and the bolt (8) to disconnect the ends of the bonding straps (9) and (6).
   (3) Remove the nut (3) and the bolt (4) to disconnect the end of the bonding strap (5).
   (4) Remove the bolt (2) and the washer (1).
   (5) Pull the elbow duct assembly (11) away from the NACA vent intake (16).
NOTE: The elbow duct assembly (11) stays in the bay between RIB23 and RIB24.
   (6) Remove and discard the O-ring (12).
   (7) Remove access panel 550AB ( 650AB) as follows:
CAUTION: YOU MUST REMOVE AND INSTALL THE BOLTS IN THE SPECIFIED SEQUENCE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ACCESS PANEL.
     (a) Loosen the bolts (15) in the sequence A thru AF.
     (b) Hold the NACA vent intake (16) of 3 kg (6.61 lb) and remove the bolts (15). Carefully remove the NACA vent intake (16) from the wing.
   (8) Remove the nut (13), the bolt (14) and the bonding strap (9) from the NACA vent intake (16).
Subtask 28-12-47-020-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the NACA Vent Intake
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE WARNING/CAUTION PLACARDS ARE INSTALLED AND YOU CAN EASILY READ THEM. THESE PLACARDS TELL PERSONS THAT THERE IS A POSSIBLE LOW OXYGEN CONTENT IN:
  • THE AREA BEHIND THE ACCESS PANEL(S)
  • THE ADJACENT AREAS WHEN THE ACCESS PANEL(S) IS(ARE) OPEN.
IF THE PLACARDS ARE DAMAGED, MISSING OR PAINTED OVER, YOU MUST REPLACE THEM. THESE PLACARDS ARE RELATED TO A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL).
   (1) Do a visual inspection to look for placards that are:
  • Damaged
  • Missing
  • Painted over.
   (2) Make sure that you can easily read the placard message
   (3) If the placards are damaged, missing, painted over or you cannot easily read them, replace them at the next maintenance opportunity.
   (4) Remove and discard the cable ties (10).
   (5) Remove the nut (7) and the bolt (8) to disconnect the ends of the bonding straps (9) and (6).
   (6) Remove the nut (3) and the bolt (4) to disconnect the end of the bonding strap (5).
   (7) Remove the bolt (2) and the washer (1).
   (8) Pull the elbow duct assembly (11) away from the NACA vent intake (16).
NOTE: The elbow duct assembly (11) stays in the bay between RIB23 and RIB24.
   (9) Remove and discard the O-ring (12).
   (10) Remove access panel 550AB ( 650AB) as follows:
CAUTION: YOU MUST REMOVE AND INSTALL THE BOLTS IN THE SPECIFIED SEQUENCE. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ACCESS PANEL.
     (a) Loosen the bolts (15) in the sequence A thru AF.
     (b) Hold the NACA vent intake (16) of 3 kg (6.61 lb) and remove the bolts (15). Carefully remove the NACA vent intake (16) from the wing.
   (11) Remove the nut (13), the bolt (14) and the bonding strap (9) from the NACA vent intake (16).
