A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
NOTE: Airbus recommends you to do the operational test in the maintenance hangar.
NOTE: You can do the maintenance deployment procedure in the maintenance hangar if there are bad environmental conditions (wind, rain, haul or very high temperature).
   (1) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) Do the operational test of the emergency light with the Programming and Test Panel (PTP) with the TEST EMER LIGHT SYS pushbutton (Ref. AMM TASK 33-51-00-710-001).
Subtask 25-62-00-941-063-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do a visual check of the inflation reservoir (2):
     (a) Open the applicable aft cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
     (b) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the aft cargo-compartment door.
     (c) Set AFT CARGO COMPT light switch 8LU to ON.
     (d) FOR [7506MM] (RESERVOIR ASSY OWS L)
       1 Remove access panel 151KW.
       2 With the MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE, examine the pressure gage (5) of the inflation reservoir (2).
     (e) FOR [7507MM] (RESERVOIR ASSY OWS R)
       1 Remove access panel 152KW.
     (f) Make sure that the pressure gage (5) shows the pressure value in AREA A.
     (g) Make sure that the lock pin (4) is not installed in the regulator valve assembly (3).
   (2) Do the cockpit safety procedure:
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Set the slat/flap control lever to 0 (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
     (b) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the slat/flap control lever when you do work near the slats/flaps.
     (c) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) on the slat/flap control lever to tell persons not to operate the slats/flaps.
   (3) Prevent damage to the wing:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PROTECTION IS IN POSITION ON THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE WING. DEPLOYMENT OF THE OFFWING ESCAPE-SLIDE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THIS AREA.
CAUTION: USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED MATERIALS AND OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURERS. OTHER MATERIALS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION OF THE COMPONENTS AND THE RELATED AREA.
     (a) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position adjacent to the applicable wing.
     (b) Remove the static discharger from the applicable flap track fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-000-001).
     (c) Attach the protection material in position on the applicable wing:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PROTECTION IS CORRECLTY ATTACHED WITH TAPE TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE. THIS PREVENTS THE SUCTION OF LOOSE MATERIAL INTO THE ASPIRATOR DURING DEPLOYMENT. LOOSE MATERIAL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ASPIRATOR.
       1        2 Use adhesive tape Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) and attach the Laminate Repair Patch-Fire compliant - Cargo (Material No.13XCA4) to the upper surface of the wing.
NOTE: The protection material is a lamination of fiberglass reinforced polyester (or equivalent material) which has a minimum thickness of 1.2 mm (0.05 in.). It is thin and resistant to impact. It applies the load equally to prevent damage to the wing.
NOTE: You cannot use the bubble wrap as a protection material for the wing.
     (d) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Do the ground safety procedure:
WARNING: PUT SAFETY BARRIERS IN POSITION TO KEEP THE TRAVEL RANGE OF THE ESCAPE-SLIDE CLEAR. IF YOU DO NOT, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Make sure that an area with a radius of approximately 12.0 m (39.37 ft.) below the applicable offwing escape slide is clear of all the equipment.
     (b) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
     (c) Put the SHEET - PLASTIC in position where the applicable offwing escape slide hits the ground.
     (d) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to go in the area behind the safety barrier(s).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE AFT CARGO-COMPARTMENT DOOR IS CLOSED BEFORE THE RIGHT OFFWING ESCAPE-SLIDE DEPLOYS. IF THE DOOR IS NOT CLOSED, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO:
  • THE INFLATABLE ASSEMBLY
  • THE AFT CARGO-COMPARTMENT DOOR.
     (e) FOR [7507MM] (RESERVOIR ASSY OWS R)
Close the applicable aft cargo-compartment door if you do the test of the right offwing escape-slide (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
   (5) In the cockpit, on the overhead panel, on the SIGNS section of panel 25VU, make sure that the EMER EXIT LT switch (1) is set to ARM.
NOTE: The position of the EMER EXIT LT switch (1) is important for a satisfactory test of the offwing escape slide. You can also refer to the illustration "Cabin Emergency Lighting - Switching Table" (Ref. AMM D/O 33-51-00-00).
Subtask 25-62-00-860-060-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
NOTE: Airbus recommends you to do the operational test in the maintenance hangar.
NOTE: You can do the maintenance deployment procedure in the maintenance hangar if there are bad environmental conditions (wind, rain, haul or very high temperature).
   (1) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) Do the operational test of the emergency light with the Multipurpose Control & Display Unit (MCDU) with the TEST EMER LIGHT SYS pushbutton (Ref. AMM TASK 33-51-00-710-001).
Subtask 25-62-00-941-063-F ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do a visual check of the inflation reservoir (4):
     (a) Open the Overhead Stowage Compartment (OHSC) door (9) to get access to the inflation reservoir inspection-window (2).
     (b) Remove the screws (3) and the washers (8).
     (c) Carefully remove the inflation reservoir inspection-window (2) from the OHSC.
     (d) Make sure that the pressure gage (5) shows the pressure value in AREA A.
     (e) Make sure that the lock pin (6) is not installed in the regulator valve assembly of the inflation reservoir (4).
     (f) Close the OHSC door (9).
   (2) Do the cockpit safety procedure:
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.

   (3) Prevent damage to the wing:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PROTECTION IS IN POSITION ON THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE WING. DEPLOYMENT OF THE OFFWING ESCAPE-SLIDE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THIS AREA.

     (a) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position adjacent to the applicable wing.
     (b) Remove the static discharger from the applicable flap track fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-000-001).
     (c) Attach the protection material in position on the applicable wing:

       1        2 Use Dry glass fabric-8H Satin 293 gsm - 181 style SRM Type 2 - (Material No.13AEC1) and attach the Laminate Repair Patch-Fire compliant - Cargo (Material No.13XCA4) to the upper surface of the wing.

   (5) In the cockpit, on the overhead panel, on the SIGNS section of panel 25VU, make sure that the EMER EXIT LT switch (1) is set to ARM.
NOTE: The position of the switch is important for a satisfactory test of the offwing escape slide. You can also refer to the illustration "Cabin Emergency Lighting - Switching Table" (Ref. AMM D/O 33-51-00-00).
4. Procedure
Subtask 25-62-00-710-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Operational Test of the Offwing Escape-Slide Deployment
F Offwing Escape-Slide - Operation ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Prepare the VIDEO CAMERA(s):
NOTE: Airbus recommends to use two VIDEO CAMERA(s) and the STOPWATCH to record and measure the time of the deployment sequence. The operator's local authority can make it mandatory to use the VIDEO CAMERA(s) to record the deployment sequence.
     (a) Put the VIDEO CAMERA(s) in these positions outside of the aircraft, behind the safety barrier(s):
  • One opposite to the offwing slide compartment
  • One parallel to the fuselage that points in the direction of the offwing slide compartment.
NOTE: If only one VIDEO CAMERA is available, then put it on the outside of the aircraft, opposite the door, behind the safety barrier.
     (b) Set the focus of the VIDEO CAMERA(s) to the manual mode.
     (c) Make sure that the VIDEO CAMERA(s) is (are) zoomed out.
   (2) Start the VIDEO CAMERA(s).
   (3) Measure the time of the deployment sequence as follows:
     (a) Start the STOPWATCH as the emergency exit-hatch (4) (referred to as hatch) starts to move inboard.
     (b) Stop the STOPWATCH when the offwing escape slide is fully extended and hangs below the horizontal position.
NOTE: In usual test conditions (hangar) the complete sequence must not be more than 10 seconds. This complies with JAA 25.807 (a) (7) (ix).
   (4) Pull down the cover flap (2) from the hatch (4) and remove it.
WARNING: IF THE ESCAPE SLIDE DOES NOT INFLATE AUTOMATICALLY, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • NO PERSONS OR EQUIPMENT ARE IN THE SLIDE DEPLOYMENT AREA, AND
  • THE ESCAPE HATCH IS REMOVED,
THEN PULL THE MANUAL HANDLE TO INFLATE THE SLIDE.
   (5) Pull down the lever (1) and hold it in this position, then carefully pull the top of the hatch (4) inboard.
NOTE: The deployment (release, unfold and inflation) sequence starts and the light harness on the escape slide comes on automatically.
   (6) Stop the video cameras. If necessary, use the video tapes to make an analysis of the deployment sequence.
   (7) Hold the lower handle (3) with your other hand and lift the hatch (4) away from the opening.
   (8) Keep the hatch (4) in the cabin.
   (9) Stop the power supply to the light harness:
NOTE: This is to prevent unwanted discharge of the battery which is installed on the Emergency Power Supply Unit (EPSU).
     (a) Use Adhesive Film Tape-Masking - - (Material No.05RDA1) and attach a coin to the proximity switch (5).
     (b) The light harness on the offwing escape slide goes off.
   (10) Record the time of the deployment sequence. Keep this information with the deployed offwing escape slide after it is removed for restoration.
   (11) Record the deployment in the report form (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-910-801).
Subtask 25-62-00-710-052-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Operational Test of the Offwing Escape-Slide Deployment
   (1) Prepare the VIDEO CAMERA(s):
NOTE: Airbus recommends to use two VIDEO CAMERA(s) and the STOPWATCH to record and measure the time of the deployment sequence. The operator's local authority can make it mandatory to use the VIDEO CAMERA(s) to record the deployment sequence.
     (a) Put the VIDEO CAMERA(s) in these positions outside of the aircraft, behind the safety barrier(s):
  • One opposite to the offwing slide compartment
  • One parallel to the fuselage that points in the direction of the offwing slide compartment.
NOTE: If only one VIDEO CAMERA is available, then put it on the outside of the aircraft, opposite the door, behind the safety barrier.
     (b) Set the focus of the VIDEO CAMERA(s) to the manual mode.
     (c) Make sure that the VIDEO CAMERA(s) is (are) zoomed out.
   (2) Start the VIDEO CAMERA(s).
   (3) Measure the time of the deployment sequence as follows:
     (a) Start the STOPWATCH as the emergency exit door starts to move outboard.
     (b) Stop the STOPWATCH when the offwing escape slide is fully extended and hangs below the horizontal position.
NOTE: In usual test conditions (hangar) the complete sequence must not be more than 10 seconds. This complies with JAA 25.807 (a) (7) (ix).
   (4) Open the emergency exit door:
WARNING: IF THE ESCAPE SLIDE DOES NOT INFLATE AUTOMATICALLY, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • NO PERSONS OR EQUIPMENT ARE IN THE SLIDE DEPLOYMENT AREA, AND
  • THE ESCAPE HATCH IS REMOVED,
THEN PULL THE MANUAL HANDLE TO INFLATE THE SLIDE.
     (a) Open the emergency exit door from the passenger compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 52-22-00-010-802).
NOTE: The deployment (release, unfold and inflation) sequence starts and the light harness on the escape slide comes on automatically.
   (5) Stop the video cameras. If necessary, use the video tapes to make an analysis of the deployment sequence.
   (6) Record the time of the deployment sequence. Keep this information with the deployed offwing escape slide after it is removed for restoration.
   (7) Record the deployment in the report form (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-910-801).

Subtask 25-62-00-860-061-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
F Offwing Escape-Slide - Operation ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove the deployed offwing escape-slide and enclosure (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-42-000-002).
   (2) Remove the discharged inflation reservoir (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-46-000-001).
   (3) Make sure that you remove the coin from the proximity switch (5) before you install the hatch.
   (4) Install the hatch (Ref. AMM TASK 52-21-11-400-001).
   (5) Install a serviceable inflation reservoir (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-46-400-001).
   (6) Install a serviceable offwing escape-slide enclosure (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-42-400-001).
   (7) Install the static discharger on the applicable flap track fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-400-001).
   (8) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (9) Remove the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION from the slat/flap control lever.
   (10) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (11) Remove the safety barriers.
   (12) Remove the plastic sheet from the ground.
   (13) Remove the tacky tape and protection from the upper surface of the wing.
   (14) Remove the access platform(s).
   (15) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
Subtask 25-62-00-860-061-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Remove the deployed offwing escape-slide and enclosure (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-42-000-002).
   (2) Remove the discharged inflation reservoir (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-46-000-001).
   (3) Close the emergency exit door from the passenger compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 52-22-00-410-802).
   (4) Install a serviceable inflation reservoir (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-46-400-001).
   (5) Install a serviceable offwing escape-slide enclosure (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-42-400-001).
   (6) Install the static discharger on the applicable flap track fairing (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-400-001).
   (7) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (8) Remove the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION from the slat/flap control lever.
   (9) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (10) Remove the safety barriers.
   (11) Remove the plastic sheet from the ground.
   (12) Remove the tacky tape and protection from the upper surface of the wing.
   (13) Remove the access platform(s).
   (14) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
