C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002) and/or (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
NOTE: It is not necessary to use the APU.
   (2) In the cockpit, on ELEC control panel 35VU:
  • Make sure that the BAT1 and BAT2 pushbutton switches are released (the OFF legends are on).
   (3) In the cockpit, on the APU section of overhead control and indicating panel 25VU:
  • Make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
   (4) Do the EIS start procedure (upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 24-30-00-040-050-B
A. Charging Cycle of Batteries 1 and 2 with the serviceable BCL 1(2).
   (1) If the BAT 1(2) voltmeter of ELEC panel 35VU related to unserviceable BCL 1(2) shows a voltage of:
  • Less than 21VDC, do the alternative procedure given in Para. 4. B. or Para. 4. C.
  • More than 26VDC and battery discharge current is equal to or less than 1A, do steps from 4. A. (1) (h).
  • More than or equal to 21VDC, continue the maintenance procedure that follows:
     (a) On the ECAM control panel:
  • Push the ELEC key to get the ELEC system page.
     (b) On the control panel 35VU:
  • Push the related BAT 1(2) pushbutton switch (OFF and FAULT legends off) related to serviceable BCL to start the charging cycle of the battery 1(2),
     (c) On the lower ECAM DU:
  • The green line between the BAT 1(2) indication and the DC BAT busbar indication comes into view. The arrow points to the BAT 1(2) indication.
  • The related parameter indications (voltage and current) come into view green.
     (d) On the ELEC system page, make sure that the ground power-unit voltage stays above 114VAC during the charging.
     (e) Wait until the battery contactor opens.
1 The green line between the BAT 1(2) indication and the DC BAT busbar indication:
  • Goes out of view if the battery is correctly charged
  • Stays in view if a battery charging is necessary.
NOTE: The time for the battery to charge can be of thirty minutes.
     (f) On the lower ECAM DU, on the ELEC page, make sure that the battery voltage is more than 26VDC and the battery discharge current is equal to or less than 1A.
     (g) Release the BAT 1(2) pushbutton switch (the OFF legend comes on).
     (h) Interchange BCL 1 and BCL 2 (Ref. AMM TASK 24-38-34-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 24-38-34-400-001).
     (i) Start a charging cycle of the battery which was connected to the unserviceable BCL 1(2) during the previous flight.
1 On ELEC control panel 35VU, push the related BAT 1(2) pushbutton switch (OFF and FAULT legends off) to start the charging cycle of the battery 1(2) with the serviceable BCL 1(2).
a If the battery contactor 1(2) is not closed (BCL 1(2) FAULT ECAM alert message comes into view on the upper ECAM DU):
b If the battery contactor 1(2) is closed (no BCL 1(2) FAULT ECAM alert message comes into view on the upper ECAM DU):
  • Do steps A. (1) (c) thru A. (1) (g).
Subtask 24-30-00-040-051-A
B. Alternative Procedure to Charge the Battery in the Workshop
   (1) Remove battery 1(2) related to unserviceable BCL 1(2) (Ref. AMM TASK 24-38-51-000-001).
   (2) Send battery 1(2) to the overhaul workshop to charge it.
   (3) Install battery 1(2) (Ref. AMM TASK 24-38-51-400-001).
   (4) Release the BAT 1(2) pushbutton switch (OFF legend on) related to the unserviceable BCL 1(2).
Subtask 24-30-00-040-053-A
C. Alternative Procedure to Replace the Battery
   (1) If the procedures in step A. and B. are not applicable:
     (a) Replace the battery related to the unserviceable BCL 1(2) with a fully-charged serviceable battery (Ref. AMM TASK 24-38-51-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 24-38-51-400-001).
     (b) Release the BAT 1(2) pushbutton switch (OFF legend on) related to the unserviceable BCL 1(2).
