(1) Removal of the protection covers
(2) Install the starter air duct (AP51) (3) on the starter and Starter Air Valve (SAV) as follows:
(3) Measure the rod assembly (6) as follows:
(a) Method 1:
1 Install both ends of the rod assembly (6) on the PWA202076 STARTER DUCT VALVE LINKAGE TEMPLATE. See sheet 1 of the figure:
2 If the rod assembly (6) installs on the template freely, the rod assembly (6) length is correct. Continue to step 4.A.(4).
3 If the rod assembly (6) does not install on the template freely, adjust the rod assembly (6) as follows:
b Loosen one of the nuts (17) or (19) and turn the rod end (16) or (20) until the rod assembly (6) installs on the template.
c TORQUE the nut (17) or (19) to between 24 and 22 lbf.in (0.27 and 0.25 m.daN )
.
P05-292 ferrule, safety cable on the nut (17) or (19) and the rod (18) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-813).
(b) Method 2:
1 Install two gage pins with 0.3121 in. (7.9273 mm) and 0.3125 in. (7.9375 mm) diameter into both ends of the rod assembly (6). See sheet 2 of the figure:
2 Measure the distance from the center of each rod end and record the measurement as Dimension A.
3 Dimension A must be to between 4.585 in. (116.459 mm) and 4.615 in. (117.221 mm).
4 If the rod assembly (6) measurement is not within the limits, adjust the rod assembly (6) until the measurement is within the limits. Refer to step 4.A.(3)(a)3_a_ thru step 4.A.(3)(a)3_d_.
(4) Apply theP06-038 compound, antigallant to the threads of the two bolts (5). See the figure:
(a) For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(5) Apply the beeswax (Material No.P05-395) or the paraffin wax blend (Material No.P05-396) to the two new EIPC 80-11-03-01-090 SEALS (1).
(6) Apply theP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) to the two couplings (2).
(7) Install the two seals (1) on the starter and SAV.
(8) Install one end of the rod assembly (6) on the starter air duct (AP51) (3) with the bolt (5) and the nut (4).
(9) TORQUE the nut (4) to between 195 and 175 lbf.in (2.20 and 1.98 m.daN )
.
(10) Install the starter air duct (AP51) (3) and the rod assembly (6) on the clevis with the bolt (5) and the nut (4).
(11) Align and install the starter air duct (AP51) (3) on the starter and SAV.
(12) Install the two couplings (2).
(13) TORQUE the two couplings (2) to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
.
(14) Use a MALLET - SOFT FACE and lightly tap the couplings (2).
(15) TORQUE the two couplings (2) again to between 125 and 115 lbf.in (1.41 and 1.30 m.daN )
.
(16) TORQUE the nut (4) to between 195 and 175 lbf.in (2.20 and 1.98 m.daN )
.
(17) Do a check for pre-load on the starter air duct (AP51) (3) as follows:
(a) Hold the rod assembly (6) by the hand and manually turn it clockwise and counterclockwise.
1 If the rod assembly (6) freely turns without too much hand torque, nothing needs to be done.
2 If too much hand torque is necessary to turn the rod assembly (6), adjust the rod assembly (6). Refer to step 4.A.(17)(b).
(b) Adjust the rod assembly (6) length as follows:
1 Remove the two nuts (4) and the two bolts (5).
3 Loosen the two nuts (17) and (19) and while you hold the rod ends (16) and (20), turn the rod (18) to adjust the rod assembly (6) as necessary.
a After adjustment, the threads of the rod ends (16) and (20), must be in view through the inspection holes in the rod (18) and the two bolts (5) can easily be installed.
