   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Manually extend the thrust reverser translating sleeves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-802).
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

A. GVI of the Thrust Reverser Cascades
   (1) Do not discard a part until you are sure there are no repairs available. If you reject a part and no repair is available, contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) for disposition.
   (2) Visually examine the thrust reverser cascades with a FLASHLIGHT and MAGNIFYING GLASS POWER 05X.
     (a) Examine the bolts and washers that attach the cascade assemblies to the torque box and cascade ring. Look for loose or missing fasteners or other damage.
       1 If you find damage or loose or missing fasteners, replace the damaged or missing parts or tighten the loose fasteners (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-30-000-801), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-30-400-801), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-30-000-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-30-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-60-000-801), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-60-400-801), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-60-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-60-400-802).
     (b) Examine the cascade assembly. Look for cracks, corrosion, wear and delamination in the vanes or other damage.
       1 If you find damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual for allowable damage limits and repair procedures or contact UTAS for disposition.

   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):

   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
