A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that you did the procedure to prevent engine motoring and to stop the electrical supply to the Electronic Engine Control (EEC)
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-832).

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-31-05-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Manual Drive Unit (MDU)
   (1) Removal of the protection covers
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.
   (2) Install the MDU.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE MDU, MAKE SURE THAT THE LOCKING ACTUATOR TABS CORRECTLY ALIGN WITH THE RELATED KEYWAYS ON THE MDU. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Install the MDU (1) on the locking actuator.
     (b) Align the locking actuator tabs with the keyways on the MDU.
NOTE: Make sure the cover of the MDU (1) points forward on the left thrust reverser door and points aft on the right thrust reverser door.
     (c) Torque the MDU (1).
CAUTION: AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT, MAKE SURE THAT YOU CANNOT SEE THE THREADS OF THE ACTUATOR. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
       1 TORQUE the MDU (1) coupling nut to between 2100 and 1900 lbf.in (23.73 and 21.47 m.daN ) T.
     (d) If necessary, connect the left TRAS monitoring harness connector (4034KS-A) to the left locking actuator (
Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-400-811).
NOTE: The Para. 4.A.(2)(d) is necessary for the MDU (1) on the left thrust reverser door only.
5. Close-up

A. Do the reactivation of the thrust reverser system after maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-805).
Subtask 78-31-05-710-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Test
   (1) Do an operational test of the MDU:
     (a) Manually extend the translating sleeve (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-802).
     (b) Manually retract the translating sleeve (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-803).

C. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Make sure that all the circuit breakers shown in the paragraph Procedure of the engine interface unit installation are closed. If they are not, close them in the recommended sequence
