Removal of the TRAS Locking-Feedback Actuator

D. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for ground Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

E. Get Access to the TRAS Locking-Feedback Actuator
   (1) Remove the left or right upper translating-sleeve access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-34-000-802) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-64-000-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-31-04-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the TRAS Locking-Feedback Actuator
   (1) Manually extend the left translating sleeve to approximately 3 in. (76.20 mm) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-802).
   (2) Remove the left TRAS locking feedback actuator (1).
     (a) Remove the bolt (2) and the bushing (3) that attach the left locking feedback actuator (1) to the translating sleeve fitting.
     (b) Disconnect the left TRAS monitoring harness (4003KS-A), (4032KS-A) and (4040KS-A) from the left locking feedback actuator (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-811).
     (c) Install COVER - PROTECTION on the left TRAS monitoring harness connectors and left locking feedback actuator (1).
     (d) Remove the two bolts (5) and the two washers (4) that attach the actuator bracket and the left TRAS monitoring harness to the left locking feedback actuator (1).
     (e) Remove the actuator bracket and the left TRAS monitoring harness from the left locking feedback actuator (1).
     (f) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the left locking feedback actuator (1) to collect the remaining hydraulic fluid.
     (g) Remove the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft from the left locking feedback actuator (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-000-801).
       1 Remove the clamps, clamp assemblies and hardware, as necessary, to give clearance when you disconnect the deploy tube.
       2 Disconnection of the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE FLEX SHAFT FALL OUT OF THE DEPLOY TUBE. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE FLEX SHAFT CAN OCCUR.
         a Disconnect the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft from the left locking actuator (1).
       3 Safety the flexible drive shaft to the deploy tube. Make sure that the flexible drive shaft does not fall out of the deploy tube.
     (h) Remove the nearest clamps and hardware, as necessary, to give clearance when you disconnect the hydraulic tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801).
     (i) Disconnect the left stow hose, the left deploy hose and the left return hose from the left locking feedback actuator (1). Drain the hydraulic fluid into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
     (j) Disconnect the left return tube and the left stow tube from the left locking feedback actuator (1). Drain the hydraulic fluid into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
     (k) Remove the bolt (12) and the washers (13) and (14) that attach the grounding strap (11) to the left locking feedback actuator (1).
     (l) Remove the grounding strap (11) from the left locking feedback actuator (1).
     (m) Remove the four bolts (15) and the four washers (16) that attach the two gimbal pin retainers (17) to the TRAS fitting.
     (n) Remove the two gimbal pin retainers (17) from the TRAS fitting.
     (o) Remove the two gimbal pins (18) from the TRAS fitting and the left locking feedback actuator (1).
     (p) Move the left locking feedback actuator (1) as follows:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE LOCKING FEEDBACK ACTUATOR. THE LOCKING FEEDBACK ACTUATOR CAN CONTAIN HYDRAULIC FLUID.
       1 Carefully move the left locking feedback actuator (1) and the actuator seal (19) forward a few inches from the TRAS fitting.
NOTE: If hydraulic fluid comes out of the actuator, collect the leakage in a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) or a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) .
     (q) Turn the left locking feedback actuator (1) approximately 90 degrees until the rod end of the left locking feedback actuator (1) can fit through the cascade ring bumper.
     (r) Carefully, remove the left locking feedback actuator (1) and the actuator seal (19) from the thrust reverser.
     (s) Remove the actuator seal (19) from the left locking feedback actuator (1).
     (t) Install COVER - PROTECTION on the locking feedback actuator (1), left stow hose, left deploy hose, left return hose, left return tube and left stow tube.
     (u) Measure and record the length of the left locking feedback actuator (1) for installation.
   (3) Remove the right TRAS locking feedback actuator (20).
     (a) Manually extend the right translating sleeve to approximately 3 in. (76.20 mm) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-802).
     (b) Remove the bolt (21) and bushing (22) that attach the right locking feedback actuator (20) to the translating sleeve fitting.
     (c) Disconnect the right TRAS monitoring harness (4004KS-A), (4033KS-A) and (4041KS-A) from the right locking feedback actuator (20) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-812).
     (d) Remove the two bolts (23) and the two washers (24) that attach the two actuator brackets and the right TRAS monitoring harness to the right locking feedback actuator (20).
     (e) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the right locking feedback actuator (20) to collect the remaining hydraulic fluid.
     (f) Remove the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft from the right locking feedback actuator (20) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-000-801).
       1 Remove the clamps, clamp assemblies and hardware, as necessary, to give clearance when you disconnect the deploy tube.
       2 Disconnection of the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE FLEX SHAFT FALL OUT OF THE DEPLOY TUBE. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE FLEX SHAFT CAN OCCUR.
         a Disconnect the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft from the right locking feedback actuator (20).
       3 Safety the flexible drive shaft to the deploy tube. Make sure that the flexible drive shaft does not fall out of the deploy tube.
     (g) Remove the nearest clamps and hardware, as necessary, to give clearance when you disconnect the hydraulic tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801).
     (h) Disconnect the right stow hose, right deploy hose and right return hose from the right locking feedback actuator (20).
     (i) Disconnect the right stow tube and right return tube from the right locking feedback actuator (20).
     (j) Remove the bolt (29) and the two washers (30) and (31) that attach the grounding strap (28) to the right locking feedback actuator (20).
     (k) Remove the grounding strap (28) from the locking feedback actuator (20).
     (l) Remove the four bolts (37) and the four washers (36) that attach the two gimbal pin retainers (35) to the TRAS fitting.
     (m) Remove the two gimbal pin retainers (35) from the TRAS fitting.
     (n) Remove the two gimbal pins (34) from the TRAS fitting and the right locking feedback actuator (20).
     (o) Move the right locking feedback actuator as follows:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE LOCKING FEEDBACK ACTUATOR. THE LOCKING FEEDBACK ACTUATOR CAN CONTAIN HYDRAULIC FLUID.
     (p) Carefully move the right locking feedback actuator (20) and the actuator seal (38) forward a few inches from the TRAS fitting.
NOTE: If hydraulic fluid comes out of the actuator, collect the leakage in a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) or a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) .
     (q) Turn the right locking feedback actuator (20) approximately 90 degrees until the rod end of the right locking feedback actuator (20) can fit through the cascade ring bumper.
     (r) Carefully, remove the right locking feedback actuator (20) and the actuator seal (38) from the thrust reverser.
     (s) Remove the actuator seal (38) from the right locking feedback actuator (20).
     (t) Install COVER - PROTECTION on the right locking feedback actuator (20), right stow hose, right deploy hose, right return hose, right return tube and right stow tube.
     (u) Measure and record the length of the right locking feedback actuator (20) for installation.
