Subtask 78-31-03-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the TRAS Locking Actuator
NOTE: These procedures are for the left TRAS locking actuator. The right is opposite.
   (1) Manually extend the applicable translating sleeve to approximately 3 in. (76.20 mm) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-802).
   (2) Remove the bolt (2) and the bushing (3) that attach the locking actuator (1) to the translating sleeve fitting.
   (3) Disconnect the TRAS monitoring harness from the locking actuator (1).
     (a) For the left locking actuator, disconnect the left TRAS monitoring harnesses (4034KS-A) and (4042KS-A) from the locking actuator (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-811).
     (b) For the right locking actuator, disconnect the right TRAS monitoring harnesses (4035KS-A) and (4043KS-A) from the locking actuator (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-61-000-812).
   (4) Install CAP - PROTECTION on the TRAS monitoring harness connectors and COVER - PROTECTION locking actuator (1).
   (5) Remove the bolt (15) and the washers (12) and (13) that attach the grounding strap (14) to the locking actuator (1).
   (6) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the locking actuator (1) to collect the remaining hydraulic fluid.
   (7) Remove the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft from the locking actuator (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-07-000-801).
   (8) Remove the clamps, clamp assemblies and hardware, as necessary, to give clearance when you disconnect the deploy tube.
   (9) Disconnect the deploy tube and flexible drive shaft from the locking actuator (1).
   (10) Safety the flexible drive shaft to the deploy tube.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE FLEX SHAFT FALL OUT OF THE DEPLOY TUBE. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE FLEX SHAFT CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Make sure that the flexible drive shaft does not fall out of the deploy tube.
   (11) Remove the Manual Drive Unit (MDU) from the locking actuator (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-05-000-801).
   (12) Remove the clamps and hardware, as necessary, to give clearance when you disconnect the hydraulic tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-50-000-801).
   (13) Disconnect the stow tube and the return tube from the locking actuator (1).
   (14) Disconnect the track lock return tube and the track lock valve supply tube from the locking actuator (1).
   (15) Remove the four bolts (8) and the four washers (9) that attach the two gimbal pin retainers (10) to the TRAS fitting.
   (16) Remove the two gimbal pin retainers (10) from the TRAS fitting.
   (17) Remove the two gimbal pins (11) from the TRAS fitting and the locking actuator (1).
   (18) Move the locking actuator (1) as follows:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE HYDRAULIC LOCKING ACTUATOR. THE HYDRAULIC LOCKING ACTUATOR CAN CONTAIN HYDRAULIC FLUID.
     (a) Carefully move the locking actuator (1) and the actuator seal (16) forward a few inches from the TRAS fitting.
NOTE: If hydraulic fluid comes out of the actuator, collect the leakage in a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) or a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) .
   (19) Turn the locking actuator (1) approximately 90 degrees until the rod end of the locking actuator (1) can fit through the cascade ring bumper.
   (20) Carefully, remove the locking actuator (1) and the actuator seal (16) from the thrust reverser.
   (21) Remove the actuator seal (16) from the locking actuator (1).
   (22) Measure and record the length of the locking actuator (1) for installation.
   (23) Installation of the protection covers
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION on the locking actuator (1), MDU, stow tube, return tube, track lock return tube and track lock valve supply tube as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
