Detailed Visual Inspection of the Thrust Reverser

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 78-30-00-010-104-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Nacelle Maintenance
4. ProcedureWARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807). Subtask 78-30-00-220-050-A
A. Inspection of the Thrust Reverser in the Closed Position
(1) Removal of the ash contamination from the external surfaces of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the closed position.
(a) Remove the thrust reverser hinge access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-45-000-801).
(b) Remove the slat panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-15-000-801).
(c) Opening of the latch access doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-46-010-801).
(d) Dry ash.
(2) Do the general visual inspection of the external side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the closed position
(a) On the external side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:
1 Translating cowl - external barrel (1):
a If you find external damage erosion, deterioration of protection (paint), refer to NSRM 543052.
2 Actuator access doors (4):
a If you find external damage erosion, deterioration of protection (paint), refer to NSRM 543057.
3 Latch access doors (7):
a If you find external damage erosion, deterioration of protection (paint), refer to NSRM 543057:
4 Thrust reverser hinge access panel (2):
a If you find external damage erosion, deterioration of protection (paint), refer to NSRM 543057.
5 Slat clearance panels (3):
a If you find external damage erosion, deterioration of protection (paint), NSRM 543059.
6 Hoisting points (5):

(3) Close the latch access doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-46-410-801).
(4) Install the slat panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-15-400-801).
(5) Install the thrust reverser hinge access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-45-400-801).
Subtask 78-30-00-220-051-A (1) Removal of the ash contamination from the external surfaces of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the closed position.
(a) Remove the thrust reverser hinge access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-45-000-801).
(b) Remove the slat panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-15-000-801).
(c) Opening of the latch access doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-46-010-801).
(d) Dry ash.
CAUTION:
IF THERE IS DRY ASH, DO NOT USE FLUIDS TO REMOVE THE ASH. IF THERE IS A LAYER OF ASH ON THE AIRCRAFT SURFACES, REMOVE THE ASH WITH A VACUUM CLEANER (OR, IF YOU CANNOT USE A VACUUM CLEANER, USE AN AIR BLOWER, A SOFT CLOTH OR A HAND BRUSH). FLUIDS CAN MIX WITH THE ASH AND MAKE A PASTE THAT CAN CAUSE EROSION/ABRASION. THIS PASTE CAN GO INTO AREAS THAT ARE NOT EASY TO CLEAN.
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU BLOW DRY ASH WITH AN AIR BLOWER, MAKE SURE THAT THE ASH DOES NOT CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS (PROBES, ETC.).
1 If there is a layer of dust or volcanic ash on the thrust reverser external surface, in the cavities on the 12 o'clock beam area and the 6 o'clock thrust reverser latch area, remove the volcanic ash with a VACUUM CLEANER, a BLOWING EQUIPMENT - DRY AIR, a LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) or a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT. (2) Do the general visual inspection of the external side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the closed position
(a) On the external side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:
1 Translating cowl - external barrel (1):
a If you find external damage erosion, deterioration of protection (paint), refer to NSRM 543052.
2 Actuator access doors (4):
a If you find external damage erosion, deterioration of protection (paint), refer to NSRM 543057.
3 Latch access doors (7):

(4) Install the slat panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-15-400-801).
(5) Install the thrust reverser hinge access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-45-400-801).
B. Inspection of the Thrust Reverser in the Open Position
(1) Open the thrust reverser cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

(3) Do the general visual inspection of the external side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the open position.
(a) On the internal side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:
1 Thrust reverser inner fixed structure (13) and outer fixed structure (14) (inside the duct, from the forward area to the blocker door area):
a If you find external damage wear or erosion on the slat clearance panels (3), refer to NSRM 543059.
b If you find external damage wear or erosion on the forward frame, refer to NSRM 543056.
c If you find external damage wear or erosion, on the cascades (15), refer to NSRM 543060.
d If you find external damage wear or erosion, on the inner fixed structure (13), refer to NSRM 543053.
2 Thrust reverser inner fixed structure (13) internal wall (engine side):

1 If there is a layer of dust or volcanic ash on the internal wall (engine side) of the thrust reverser, remove the volcanic ash with a VACUUM CLEANER, a BLOWING EQUIPMENT - DRY AIR, a LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) or a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT. (3) Do the general visual inspection of the external side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the open position.
(a) On the internal side of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:
1 Thrust reverser inner fixed structure (13) and outer fixed structure (14) (inside the duct, from the forward area to the blocker door area):

C. Inspection of the Thrust Reverser with the Thrust Reverser Closed and the Translating Cowl in the Deployed Position
(1) Manually deploy the translating cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).
(2) Removal of the actuator access panel:
(a) Remove the eight screws (21) and the actuator access panel (22) from the translating cowl.
(3) Removal of the ash contamination from the internal duct surfaces of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the deployed position.
(a) Dry ash.
(4) Do the general visual inspection of the internal duct surfaces of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the deployed position.
(a) On the internal duct of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors, do the inspections that follow:
1 Thrust reverser inner fixed structure (13) and outer fixed structure (14) panels (inside the duct, from the aft to the blocker door):
a If you find external damage wear or erosion on the inner fixed structure (13), refer to NSRM 543053.
b If you find external damage wear or erosion on the 12 o'clock beam area (6), refer to NSRM 543054.
c If you find external damage wear or erosion on the 6 o'clock beam area, refer to NSRM 543055.
2 Transcowl internal cavities (20), translating cowl acoustic barrel:
a If you find external damage wear or erosion, refer to NSRM 543051.
3 Primary sliders (16) and secondary sliders (17):
a If you find external damage wear or erosion, contact SAFRAN Nacelles.
4 Cascades (15):
a If you find external damage wear or erosion, refer to NSRM 544060.
5 Blocker doors (18) and links (19):
a If you find external damage wear or erosion, refer to NSRM 543058.
(5) Installation of the actuator access panel
(a) Put the actuator access panel (22) in position on the translating cowl.
(b) Install the screws (21) (8 positions).
(c) TORQUE the screws (21) to between 0.31 and 0.26 m.daN (27.43 and 23.01 lbf.in )

(6) Manually stow the translating cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-410-801).
5. Close-up(1) Manually deploy the translating cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).
(2) Removal of the actuator access panel:
(a) Remove the eight screws (21) and the actuator access panel (22) from the translating cowl.
(3) Removal of the ash contamination from the internal duct surfaces of the left and right thrust reverser cowl doors with the thrust reverser in the deployed position.
