A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure

WARNING: BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER. IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP. AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
A. Removal of the Fuel Package Assembly

NOTE: Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the HMU and fuel pump to collect fuel released when you disconnect fuel lines.

   (1) Not applicable

POST CFM SB 73-0149

   (2) Remove the Fuel Nozzle Filter and its brackets as follows :
     (a) Remove the Fuel Nozzle Filter (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-45-000-040).
     (b) Remove the bolts (360), washers (365) and nuts (370) which attach the bracket (375) on the fan frame and remove it.
     (c) Remove the bolts (390), washers (385) and nuts (380) which attach the bracket (395) on the fan frame and remove it.
     (d) Remove the bolts (400), washers (405) and nuts (410) which attach the bracket (415) on the fan frame and remove it.

END OF POST CFM SB 73-0149

   (3) Disconnect the electrical connector (75) from the fuel flow transmitter. If necessary, use PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG.
   (4) Put CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected electrical connectors.
   (5) Remove the bolt (70) and nut (60) from the loop clamp (65) that attaches the electrical connector (75) to the support bracket. Remove the loop clamp (65).
   (6) Disconnect the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40) from the union nut of the fuel inlet tube (20).
   (7) Remove the bolts (100) to remove the fuel supply tube from the discharge port of the Hydromechanical Unit (HMU).
   (8) Remove and keep the gasket (110) from the discharge port of the HMU.

   (9) Disconnect the fuel supply hose from the union (125) of the fuel injection supply tube.

   (10) Remove the bolt (95) and washer (90) that attach the inlet bracket (105) to the HMU.
     (a) To do this step, you can disconnect the VSV head hose (255) and VSV rod hose (240) from the nipples of HMU.
   (11) Remove the bolt (85) and washer (80) that attach the discharge bracket (120) to the HMU.
   (12) Remove the assembled fuel flow transmitter, fuel supply tube, inlet bracket (105), discharge bracket (120), and fuel supply hose from HMU.
   (13) Install PLUG - BLANKING on the open discharge port of the HMU and on the open ends of fuel supply tube.
   (14) Install PLUG - BLANKING on the fuel supply hose and on the union (125) of the fuel injection supply tube.
   (15) Disconnect the electrical connectors, Channel A (130) and Channel B (235), from the HMU. If necessary, use PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG.
   (16) Disconnect the electrical connector (150) from the latching solenoid. If necessary, use PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG.
   (17) Put CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected electrical connectors (130), (150) and (235).
   (18) Disconnect the oil in tube (15) from the union nut of the oil tube (45).
   (19) Remove the oil out tube (35) from the servo fuel heater (50) as follows:
     (a) Remove the bolts (25) from the servo fuel heater (50).
     (b) Remove and keep the gasket (30) from the port of the servo fuel heater (50).
   (20) Disconnect the flex-hoses from the HMU nipples that follow:
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
     (a) VBV open hose (200) from nipple (195).
     (b) RACCS hose (135) from nipple (140).
     (c) VBV closed hose (185) from nipple (180).
     (d) PRC hose (230) from nipple (225).
     (e) HPTACC hose (285) from nipple (290).
     (f) LPTACC hose (270) from nipple (275).
     (g) SOV hose (345) from nipple (350).
     (h) BSV hose (215) from nipple (210).
     (i) VSV head hose (255) from nipple (260).
     (j) VSV rod hose (240) from nipple (245).
     (k) OVBD drain tube (300) from nipple (305).
   (21) Install PLUG - BLANKING on the disconnected flex-hose ends.
   (22) Remove the IDG supply tube (330) from the IDG port on the HMU as follows:
     (a) Remove the bolts (335) from the HMU.
     (b) Remove and keep the gasket (340) from the IDG port of the HMU.
   (23) Install COVER - BLANKING on the open end of the IDG supply tube (330) and on the HMU port.
   (24) If the routing of the aft sump oil supply tube (430) prevent the fuel pump package removal, disconnect the aft sump oil supply tube (430) from the accessory gearbox (AGB) as follows:
     (a) Remove the bolt (420) and the clamp (425) which attach the aft sump oil supply tube (430) to the fuel pump.
     (b) Disconnect the connecting nut of the aft sump oil supply tube (430) from the nipple of the accessory gearbox (AGB).
   (25) Disconnect the fuel tubes as follows:
     (a) Remove the bolts (10) and disconnect the fuel supply tube (55) from the fuel supply tube (A/C).
     (b) Remove and keep the gasket (5) from the junction port of the fuel supply tube (55).
     (c) Remove the bolt which attaches the fan fire detection loop to the bracket (535) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-000-041).

PRE CFM SB 72-0693 & PRE CFM SB 79-0035

     (d) Remove the bolts (545) and washers (540) and disconnect the fuel inlet tube(440) (from IDG oil cooler) from the main oil/fuel heat exchanger. Remove the bracket (535) (for fan fire detection). Remove and keep the gasket (530).

POST CFM SB 72-0693 AND POST CFM SB 79-0035

     (e) Remove the bolts (550) and disconnect the fuel inlet tube (440) (from IDG oil cooler) from the main oil/fuel heat exchanger. Remove the bracket (535) (for fan fire detection). Remove and keep the gasket (530).

   (26) Remove the bolts (315), (580) and nuts (320), (585) which attach these items on the brackets on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger and on AGB as follows:
     (a) Clamp (325) and plastic bushing which attach the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40) to the bracket on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger.
     (b) Clamp (525) and plastic bushing to the upper side of bracket (520) on AGB which attach the CLP fuel tube (450) on the AGB.
     (c) Clamp (590) and plastic bushing to the lower side of bracket (520) on AGB which attach the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40) on the AGB.
     (d) Disconnect the CLP fuel tube (450) from the nipple (555) on the fuel pump.
   (27) If necessary, loosen the bolts (510), (615) and nut (515), (620) which attach these items on the AGB as follows:
     (a) Clamps (435), (445) and plastics bushing to the lower side of bracket (520) on the AGB which attach the fuel inlet tube (from IDG oil cooler) (440) and the oil tube (45).
     (b) Clamps (605), (610) and plastics bushing to the upper side of bracket (520) on the AGB which attach the IDG tube (330) and the PB PSF fuel tube (595).
NOTE: Do not remove the bolts (510), (615) and nut (515), (620) to prevent too much force on the tubes during removal.
   (28) Disconnect the fuel filter differential pressure tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-49-000-040).
   (29) Remove the main oil fuel heat exchanger drain tube and the fuel pump pad drain tube (Ref. AMM TASK 71-73-49-000-040).
   (30) Remove the bolt which attach the fan fire detection loop to the bracket on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-000-041).
   (31) Move the hydraulic hoist platform below the fuel package.
   (32) Lift the hydraulic hoist platform until 856A2801 BASEPLATE-R I FUEL PUMP HMU PACKAGE (856A2801) touches the fuel package.
   (33) Cut and remove lockwire and remove the Quick-Attach-Detach (QAD) bolt (560). Keep its retaining packing (565) and the ball-seat washer (575).
   (34) Install the bolt (560) in opposite position. Install 856A2801 BASEPLATE-R I FUEL PUMP HMU PACKAGE (856A2801). Install 856A2609 BLOCK,JACKING-FUEL PUMP (856A2609).
   (35) Torque the QAD bolt (560):
CAUTION: OBEY THE TORQUE VALUES SPECIFIED BELOW.
CAUTION: DURING REMOVAL, KEEP THE DRIVE SHAFT PERPENDICULAR TO THE AGB MOUNTING FLANGE, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO LOAD ON THE DRIVE SHAFT.
     (a) Torque the bolt (560) to between to between 315 and 285 lbf.in (3.56 and 3.22 m.daN ) T and hit the QAD ring (570) until it moves sufficiently to disengage the fuel pump.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL DURING FUEL PACKAGE REMOVAL. DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN FIRE-DETECTION LOOP INSTALLED ADJACENT TO THE MAIN OIL/FUEL HEAT EXCHANGER AND THE SERVO FUEL HEATER.
   (36) Carefully pull the fuel package rearward to disengage the pump drive shaftfrom the AGB drive pad.
   (37) Remove the
856A2609 BLOCK,JACKING-FUEL PUMP (856A2609).
   (38) Install blanking covers on the open ends of the fuel inlet tube (440), on the CLP fuel tube (450), on the oil tube (45) and on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger.

PRE CFM SB 72-0454

   (39) Remove seal ring assembly (465) from the QAD ring (570) and keep it if not damaged.

POST CFM SB 72-0454

   (40) Remove seal ring assembly (470) from the QAD ring (570).
NOTE: The seal ring assembly has a support (metal ring) (480) and a preformed packing (475).
     (a) If the preformed packing (475) is damaged, do as follows:
       1 Remove the preformed packing (475) from the support (480).
       2 Discard the preformed packing (475).

   (41) Remove and discard the O-ring (485) from the fuel pump drive shaft.
   (42) Remove the seal ring assembly (465) or (470) from the AGB housing.
   (43) If necessary, remove fuel pump nipples and discard O-rings as follows:
     (a) Remove the nipples (460), (495) and (505).
     (b) Remove and discard the O-rings (455), (490) and (500).
     (c) Plug and cap all open parts.
   (44) If one or many nipples from HMU or fuel pump are loosened, remove this or these nipples and discard O-ring.
   (45) Install the blanking plugs, caps and blanking covers on all open parts of the HMU, the servo fuel heater and fuel tubes attached on the fuel pump to prevent contamination.
   (46) Do the preservation procedure of the HMU (Ref. AMM TASK 73-21-10-600-001).
   (47) Do the preservation procedure of the fuel pump (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-10-620-001).
