4. Procedure
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE ENGINE AND OF THE AREAS ADJACENT TO THE BORESCOPE INSPECTION PORTS IS LESS THAN 150 °F (65.6 °C). DO NOT DO A BORESCOPE INSPECTION IF THE ADJACENT AREAS ARE TOO HOT TO TOUCH. DO THE BORESCOPE INSPECTION WHEN THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE IS LESS THAN 150 F(65.6 C). THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE BORESCOPE EQUIPMENT.
Subtask 72-24-00-000-050-A
A. Removal of the Borescope Plug D
   (1) If not yet removed, remove the shroud segment 3 (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-01-000-801).
   (2) If necessary for access purposes, remove the shroud segment 2 (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-01-000-801).
   (3) Remove the borescope plug D as follows:
     (a) If necessary, operate manually the Variable Stator Vane (VSV) system (Ref. AMM TASK 75-32-05-910-801) to make sure that the borescope plug D is accessible. Make sure the clearance between the lower and upper Inlet Guide Vane (IGV) ring is aligned with borescope plug D.
NOTE: Borescope plug D access is possible without IGV connecting link removal when the VSV system is in the fully opened position.
     (b) If necessary, remove the connecting link that connect the upper and lower IGV rings.
1 Remove the self-locking nut and the machine bolt that attach the turnbuckle/fixed links to the clevis of the connecting link.
2 Remove and discard the safety cable from the bolts that attach the connecting link.
     (c) Manually hold the connecting link during the steps that follows:
1 Remove the bolts from the connecting link.
2 Remove the pins from the connecting link.
3 Remove the connecting link from the lower IGV ring and the upper IGV ring.
4 Remove the borescope plug D from the borescope port D.
Subtask 72-24-00-400-050-A
B. Installation of the Borescope Plug D
   (1) Install borescope plug D in the borescope port D as follows:
