Water Wash Procedure (Menu Mode) [CFML]
TASK 72-00-00-740-801-A
Water Wash Procedure (Menu Mode)
The water wash procedure with menu mode function dry-motors the engine, opens the Variable Stator Vanes (VSV) and closes the Variable Bleed Valves (VBV) to allow water wash mixture to more effectively enter the compressor and clean compressor hardware.
This task is done when cleaning the engine gas path with pure water (non-detergent) or with cleaning solution.

Water Wash Procedure (Menu Mode)
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT ALL ENGINE OPERATING AREAS ARE AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. ALL RAMPS, TAXIWAYS, RUNWAYS AND OTHER OPERATING AREAS MUST BE VERY CLEAN TO PREVENT BAD DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE, AIRCRAFT AND PERSONS IN THE AREA.
WARNING:
DO NOT TRY TO STOP THE FAN FROM TURNING BY HAND. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO THE PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR GROUND SAFETIES AND THE WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE DANGEROUS.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY CONNECTED TO THE AIRCRAFT WHEN YOU DO THIS PROCEDURE. IF A HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY IS CONNECTED, THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE PUMPS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT EXCEED THE STARTER DUTY CYCLE. DAMAGE TO THE STARTER CAN OCCUR.

D. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(a) Push the FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch.
(b) The ON legend of this pushbutton switch comes on.
(2) Supply the aircraft pneumatic system from the HP ground power unit or the APU (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-00-860-805) or (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-00-860-806).
(3) On the lower ECAM Display Unit (DU):
(a) Get the HYDRAULIC page.
(b) Make sure that the pressure of the Green reservoir for engine 1 (the Yellow reservoir for engine 2) is correct.
(c) Make sure that the reservoir fluid level is correct.
(4) On HYD/FUEL panel 40VU, make sure that the ENG 1(2) pump is serviceable:
(5) On ECAM FUEL SD page, make sure that LP valve is open.
(6) Make sure that the oil quantity in the engine 1(2) oil tank is correct. If necessary, fill the oil tank (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-805).
(7) On the lower ECAM DU, make sure that the available air pressure is between 25 psi (1.72 bar) and 55 psi (3.79 bar).
4. ProcedureCAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR PRESSURE IS IN THE CORRECT OPERATION RANGE BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE MOTORING. THE HYDRAULIC FLUID IS NECESSARY TO LUBRICATE THE HYDRAULIC PUMPS THAT THE ENGINE OPERATES.
(1) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU: (a) Push the FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch.

A. Water Wash Procedure with the Menu Mode Function
(1) Do the water wash procedure with the menu mode function.
5. Close-up(1) Do the water wash procedure with the menu mode function.
NOTE: The Engine Electronic Controller (EEC) will not enter the menu mode (the interactive mode) after an inquired command from the Centralized Fault Display System (CFDS) when any of the following conditions is set:
- N2 more than ten percent or invalid
- Engine in operation
- Engine not in the default start state
- Throttle Lever Angle (TLA) not at idle or invalid
- Aircraft in the air
- MASTER lever ON or invalid.

| 1.Get Access to the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/ENG Page (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-012). | |
| 2.From the menu mode main menu on the left or right Multipurpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU), select the key adjacent to SPECIAL FUNCTIONS (2R). | The SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu is displayed (Screen 1). |
| 3.Select the key adjacent to WATER WASH PROCEDURE (2L). | The WATER WASH PROCEDURE screen is displayed (Screen 2). |
| 4.Put the cockpit controls in position to start the dry-motoring procedure as follows: A.On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
| The engine performs the bowed rotor motoring sequence and begins the dry-motoring. Obey the starter limits and the duty cycle. Do not engage the starter when the core speed is above 60 percent. The starter is capable of three motoring cycles, one after the other, each five-minutes in length, with a five-minute rest period between each motoring cycle, followed by a fifteen-minute cool-down period before you attempt a new start or motoring cycle. |
| 5.Make sure that N2 is more than 20 percent and the oil pressure indication is positive. NOTE: In cold weather conditions, large oil pressure surges can occur. | |
| 6.Select the key adjacent to START THE WASH (5R). | Once N2 exceeds the bowed rotor motoring speed and the bowed rotor indication has cleared, the WATER WASH PROCEDURE screen is displayed (Screen 3). The VSVs are slewed open and the VBVs are slewed closed to prepare the engine for the water wash. NOTE: The EEC will abort the water wash menu mode function if one or more of the following conditions occur:
|
| 7.Perform the compressor wash (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-100-804) or (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-100-803). A.Wait for ten seconds of positive fan rotation:
| |
8.Wait for ten seconds and then stop the engine crank with:
| After approximately five seconds, the MCDU returns to Screen 1. |
| 9.Let the water/cleaning fluid soak for 10 to 15 minutes. | |
| 10.Do steps 4. thru 9. again to perform additional washes as required per the wash procedure. | |
11.Complete the engine motoring by setting these cockpit controls as follows:
| The engine core speed and the oil pressure decrease. Once the core speed falls below 20 percent, the WATER WASH screen (Screen 4) is displayed. |
| 12.On the WATER WASH COMPLETE screen (Screen 4), select the key adjacent to RETURN (6L) to return to the SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu. | The SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu is displayed (Screen 1). |
