Installation of the Igniter Plug(s) (APS 3200)


WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE APU UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE IGNITION UNIT IS DE-ENERGIZED AND GROUNDED BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE INPUT AND OUTPUT LEADS. DO NOT TOUCH THE CONTACTS OF THE OUTPUT TERMINAL. THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE FROM THE IGNITION UNIT IS HIGH AND DOES NOT DECREASE IMMEDIATELY AFTER DE-ENERGIZATION (THE UNIT IS OF THE CAPACITOR DISCHARGE TYPE). HIGH VOLTAGE CAN KILL YOU.

3. Job Set-up

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are energized (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) On overhead control and indicating panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is in the OFF position.
   (3) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to start the APU.
   (4) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
   (5) Make sure that low-tension supply connector P10 is disconnected.

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the APU compartment.
   (2) Make sure that the APU access doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (3) Make sure that LIGHT control switch is set to the ON position.

4. Procedure
Subtask 49-41-41-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Igniter Plug(s)
NOTE: There are two igniter plugs installed in the combustor assembly, one at 270 degrees and one at 120 degrees seen from the rear. The installation procedure is the same for the two igniter plugs.
   (1) Apply Lubricant-Anti Seize High Temp. - (Material No.03PBB1) to the threads between the igniter plug(s) (2) and the combustor assembly.
   (2) Install the igniter plug(s) (2) in the combustor assembly.
   (3) TORQUE the igniter plug(s) (2) to between 132 and 108 lbf.in (1.49 and 1.22 m.daN ) T.
   (4) Make sure that the igniter cable(s) (1) are in the correct condition:
     (a) Do a check of the igniter cable(s) (1).
     (b) Make sure that the contact segment of the igniter cable(s) (1) is clean and not damaged
     (c) If you find signs of damage, replace the igniter cable(s) (1) (
Ref. AMM TASK 49-41-43-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-41-43-400-002).
   (5) Connection of the igniter cable(s) (1) to the igniter plug(s) (2):
     (a) Apply Lubricant-Anti Seize Nickel Based High Temp. Turbine Engine (Material No.03PBG6) to the threads between the igniter plug(s) (2) and the igniter cable(s) (1).
     (b) Connect the igniter cable(s) (1) to the igniter plug(s) (2).
     (c) Hold the igniter plug(s) (2) with a WRENCH - STANDARD and TORQUE the igniter cable(s) (1) to between 104.5 and 85.5 lbf.in (1.18 and 0.97 m.daN ) T.
   (6) Connect low tension connector P10 (4) to the ignition exciter (3).

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Set the LIGHT control switch 11LJ to the OFF position.
   (3) Close APU access doors 315AL 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).

   (2) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits

   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
