Installation of the Igniter Electrical Lead (APS 3200)


WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE APU UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE IGNITION UNIT IS DE-ENERGIZED AND GROUNDED BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE INPUT AND OUTPUT LEADS. DO NOT TOUCH THE CONTACTS OF THE OUTPUT TERMINAL. THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE FROM THE IGNITION UNIT IS HIGH AND DOES NOT DECREASE IMMEDIATELY AFTER DE-ENERGIZATION (THE UNIT IS OF THE CAPACITOR DISCHARGE TYPE). HIGH VOLTAGE CAN KILL YOU.

3. Job Set-up

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is in the OFF position.
   (2) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to start the APU.
   (3) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
   (4) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the APU compartment.
   (5) Make sure that the APU access doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (6) Make sure that low-tension connector P10 is not connected to the ignition exciter.

4. Procedure
Subtask 49-41-43-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Igniter Electrical Lead
NOTE: There are two igniter plugs installed in the combustor assembly, one at 270 degrees and one at 120 degrees, seen from the rear.
   (1) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (2) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Attach the igniter electrical lead (2) or (3) to the clamps (6) and (7).
   (4) Install the clamps (6) and (7) with the bolts (5).
   (5) TORQUE the bolts (5) to between 56 and 51 lbf.in (0.63 and 0.58 m.daN ) T.
   (6) Connection of the igniter electrical lead (2) or (3) to the igniter plugs:
     (a) Apply Lubricant-Anti Seize Nickel Based High Temp. Turbine Engine (Material No.
03PBG6) to the threads between the igniter plug and the igniter electrical lead (2) or (3).
     (b) Connect the igniter electrical lead (2) or (3) to the related igniter plug (4) or (8).
     (c) Hold the igniter plug (4) or (8) with a WRENCH - STANDARD and TORQUE the lead end nuts to between 104.5 and 85.5 lbf.in (1.18 and 0.97 m.daN ) T.
   (7) Connect the igniter electrical lead (2) or (3) to the ignition unit (1).
   (8) TORQUE the lead end nuts to between 148.5 and 121.5 lbf.in (1.68 and 1.37 m.daN )
T.
   (9) Connect low-tension connector P10 to the ignition unit (1).

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

A. Close Access
   (1) Close the APU access doors 315AL 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
