3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-11-13-941-056-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the safety devices are on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) On panel 400VU:
  • Make sure that the landing-gear control-lever is in the DOWN position
  • Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
   (4) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the brakes.
   (5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are on the ground service connections to tell persons not to operate:
  • The green hydraulic system
  • The Yellow Hydraulic system.
   (6) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the MLG doors.
Subtask 32-11-13-860-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Blue and the Green Hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
   (2) Make sure that the applicable hydraulic reservoirs are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) Make sure that MLG shock absorber is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-13-000-001) and installed in the 460006212 TROLLEY-BUILD.
Subtask 32-11-13-860-054-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Blue and the Green Hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
   (2) Make sure that the applicable hydraulic reservoirs are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) Make sure that MLG shock absorber is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-13-000-001) and installed in the 460007240 TROLLEY-BUILD.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-11-13-420-052-G ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the seal grooves.
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Use a clean lint-free cloth to dry the seal grooves.
   (5) Lubricate the new items that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) or Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Shock Struts - (Material No.02CBB1) or Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Landing Gear - (Material No.02CCC1) :
   (6) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (4).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-051-L ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the MLG Shock-Absorber Gland-Seals
   (1) Install the new sealing ring (10), the new joint seal (11) and the new seals (8) and (9).
   (2) Install the new retainers (6) and the new packing (7).
   (3) Install the new wiper ring (13). Make sure that the wiper ring (13) is correctly installed. The open U section points out.
   (4) Install the new seals (1) and (2).
   (5) Use the 460003180-74 KEEP RING to make the seal (2) go back to its initial condition.
   (6) Use a TOOL - SMOOTH EDGED to carefully install each part of the seal (2) in the correct position.
   (7) Use the 460006405 SLEEVE, ASSEMBLY to carefully install the lower bearing (4) on the sliding tube (5).
   (8) Put the bearing (15) on the upper bearing housing (18). Do not cover the holes for the pins (14) and (17).
   (9) Install the upper bearing housing (18) on the sliding tube (5). Make sure that the holes in the upper bearing housing (18) align with the holes in the sliding tube (5).
   (10) Install the diaphragm tube assembly (3) into the sliding tube (5).
   (11) Install both parts of the retaining collar (16) in the sliding tube (5) with the larger diameter at the top. Make sure that the holes align with the holes in the upper bearing housing (18).
   (12) Use the 460006409 ASSEMBLY AND EXTRACTION TOOL to install the pin (14) in the larger diameter hole. Install the pins (17) in the other holes.
   (13) Install the bearing (15) in its groove to cover the pins (14) and (17).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-052-K ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) to clean the seal grooves.
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Use clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to dry the seal grooves.
   (5) Lubricate the new items that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
   (6) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (20).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-051-I ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Installation of the MLG Shock-Absorber Gland-Seals
   (1) Install the new sealing ring (25), the new seal (26) and the new seals (18) and (19).
   (2) Install the new packing retainers (16) and the new packings (17).
   (3) Install the new wiper ring (27). Make sure that the open U section points out.
   (4) Install the new seals (1) and (2).
   (5) Use the 460003180-74 KEEP RING to make the seal (2) go back to its initial condition.
   (6) Use the TOOL - SMOOTH EDGED to carefully install each part of the seal (2) in the correct position.
   (7) Lubricate the parts that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
  • The internal diameter of the lower bearing housing (20)
  • The external diameter of the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (8) Carefully install the lower bearing housing (20) on the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (9) Put the locking-plates (8) on the upper bearing housing (9).
   (10) Put the upper bearing housing (9) on the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
   (11) Install the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3) into the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (12) Install the upper bearing housing (9) as follows:
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the upper bearing housing (9) with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (b) Install the two-part stop (10) and the pins (15) in the upper bearing housing (9).
     (c) Make sure that the pins (15) in the two-part stop (10) are found in the keyways on the end of the sliding tube assembly (28).
     (d) Install the upper bearing housing (9) on the sliding tube assembly (28).
     (e) Use the 460007279 SPANNER,PIN and tighten the upper bearing (9) as follows:
       1 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 630 and 570 m.N (464.60 and 420.35 lbf.ft ) T.
       2 Loosen the upper bearing housing (9).
       3 Do steps 1_ and 2_ two more times.
       4 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 600 and 500 m.N (442.48 and 368.73 lbf.ft )
T.
   (13) Install the locking-plates (8) as follows:
F Locking-Plate Hole Locations ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Make sure the locking-plates (8) are in position on the two-part stop (10) with the tenons and slots engaged.
     (b) Safety the locking-plates (8) with the 126168 JIG.
     (c) Drill three holes of diameter between 4.95 mm (0.195 in.) and 5.10 mm (0.201 in.) through each locking-plate (8) in areas A.
     (d) Install the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-440 TAB-WASHERS (7) and the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-430 SCREWS (6).
     (e) TORQUE the screws (6) to between 6.5 and 5.5 m.N (57.52 and 48.67 lbf.in )
T.
     (f) Safety the screws (6) with the tab-washers (7).
   (14) Install the bearings (4) and (5) on the upper bearing housing (9).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-052-L ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
E. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) to clean the seal grooves.
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to dry the seal grooves.
   (5) Lubricate the new items that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
   (6) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (20).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-051-H ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F. Installation of the MLG Shock-Absorber Gland-Seals
NOTE: The installation of the MLG shock-absorber gland-seals must be done in a clean environment (off-wing).
   (1) Install the new wiper ring (27) into the groove of the lower bearing housing (20). Make sure that the open U section points out.
   (2) Install the new sealing ring (25) and new seal (26) in the inner groove of the lower bearing housing (20).
   (3) Install the new seals (18) and (19) in the inner groove of the lower bearing housing (20).
   (4) Install the new packing retainers (16) and the new O-rings (17).
   (5) Install the new O-ring (1) and the new seal (2).
   (6) Use the 460003180-74 KEEP RING to make the seal (2) go back to its initial condition.
   (7) Use the TOOL - SMOOTH EDGED to carefully install each part of the seal (2) in the correct position.
   (8) Lubricate the parts that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
  • The internal diameter of the lower bearing housing (20)
  • The external diameter of the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (9) Carefully install the lower bearing housing (20) on the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (10) Put the upper bearing housing (9) on the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
   (11) Install the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3) into the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (12) Install the upper bearing housing (9):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the upper bearing housing (9) with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (b) Move the upper bearing housing (9) to the top end of the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
NOTE: This will make the installation of the two-part stop (10) easier.
     (c) Install the two-part stop (10) and the pins (15) in the upper bearing housing (9).
     (d) Make sure that the pins (15) in the two-part stop (10) are found in the keyways on the end of the sliding tube assembly (28).
     (e) Install the upper bearing housing (9) on the sliding tube assembly (28).
     (f) Use the 460007253 SPANNER-PIN and tighten the upper bearing (9) as follows:
       1 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 630 and 570 m.N (464.60 and 420.35 lbf.ft ) T.
       2 Loosen the upper bearing housing (9).
       3 Do steps 1_ and 2_ again.
       4 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 600 and 500 m.N (442.48 and 368.73 lbf.ft )
T.
   (13) Install the locking-plates (8) CMM 321282 as follow:
F Locking-Plate Hole Locations ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Make sure the locking-plates (8) are in position on the two-part stop (10) with the tenons and slots engaged.
     (b) Safety the locking-plates (8) with the F28183000 DRILLING FIXTURE.
     (c) Drill three holes of diameter between 4.95 mm (0.195 in.) and 5.10 mm (0.201 in.) through each locking-plate (8) in the areas A.
     (d) Lubricate the new screws (6) CMM 321282 with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (e) Install the new tab-washers (7) CMM 321282 and the screws (6).
     (f) TORQUE the screws (6) to between 6.5 and 5.5 m.N (57.52 and 48.67 lbf.in ) T.
     (g) Safety the screws (6) with the tab-washers (7).
   (14) Install the bearings (4) and (5) on the upper bearing housing (9).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-052-M ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
G. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) to clean the seal grooves.
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.

   (6) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (20).

H. Installation of the MLG Shock-Absorber Gland-Seals
NOTE: The installation of the MLG shock-absorber gland-seals must be done in a clean environment (off-wing).
   (1) Install the new wiper ring (27). Make sure that the open U section points out.
   (2) Install the new sealing ring (25) and new seal (26) in the groove of the lower bearing housing (20).
   (3) Install the new seals (18) and (19) in the groove of the lower bearing housing (20).

   (8) Lubricate the parts that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
  • The internal diameter of the lower bearing housing (20)
  • The external diameter of the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (9) Use the 460006405 SLEEVE, ASSEMBLY to carefully install the lower bearing (20) on the sliding tube (28).
   (10) Put the upper bearing housing (9) on the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
   (11) Install the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3) into the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (12) Install the upper bearing housing (9):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the upper bearing housing (9) with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (b) Move the upper bearing housing (9) to the top end of the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
NOTE: This will make the installation of the two-part stop (10) easier.
     (c) Install the two-part stop (10) and the pins (15) in the upper bearing housing (9).
     (d) Make sure that the pins (15) in the two-part stop (10) are found in the keyways on the end of the sliding tube assembly (28).
     (e) Install the upper bearing housing (9) on the sliding tube assembly (28).
     (f) Use the 460007253 SPANNER-PIN and torque the upper bearing (9) as follows:
       1 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 63 and 57 m.daN (464.60 and 420.35 lbf.ft ) T.
       2 Loosen the upper bearing housing (9).
       3 Do steps 1_ and 2_ again.
       4 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 60 and 50 m.daN (442.48 and 368.73 lbf.ft )

   (13) Install the locking-plates (8) CMM 321289 as follow:
F Locking-Plate Hole Locations ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Make sure the locking-plates (8) are in position on the two-part stop (10) with the tenons and slots engaged.
     (b) Safety the locking-plates (8) with the 126168 JIG.
     (c) Drill three holes of diameter between 4.95 mm (0.195 in.) and 5.10 mm (0.201 in.) through each locking-plate (8) in the areas 'A'.
     (d) Lubricate the screws (6) CMM 321289with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (e) Install the new tab washers (7) CMM 321289 and the new screws (6).
     (f) TORQUE the screws (6) to between 0.65 and 0.55 m.daN (57.52 and 48.67 lbf.in ) T.
     (g) Safety the screws (6) with the tab-washers (7).
   (14) Install the bearings (4) and (5) on the upper bearing housing (9).

I. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.

   (5) Lubricate the new items that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
   (6) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (20).

J. Installation of the MLG Shock-Absorber Gland-Seals
NOTE: The installation of the MLG shock-absorber gland-seals must be done in a clean environment (off-wing).
   (1) Install the new wiper ring (27). Make sure that the open U section points out.

   (3) Install the new seals (18) and (19) on the lower bearing housing (20).

  • The internal diameter of the lower bearing housing (20)
  • The external diameter of the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (9) Use the 460006405 SLEEVE, ASSEMBLY to carefully install the lower bearing (20) on the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (10) Put the upper bearing housing (9) on the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
   (11) Install the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3) into the sliding tube assembly (28).
   (12) Install the upper bearing housing (9):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the upper bearing housing (9) with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (b) Move the upper bearing housing (9) to the top end of the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
NOTE: This will make the installation of the two-part stop (10) easier.
     (c) Install the two-part stop (10) and the pins (15) in the upper bearing housing (9).
     (d) Make sure that the pins (15) in the two-part stop (10) are found in the keyways on the end of the sliding tube assembly (28).
     (e) Install the upper bearing housing (9) on the sliding tube assembly (13).
     (f) Use the 460007253 SPANNER-PIN and torque the upper bearing (9) as follows:
       1 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 630 and 570 m.N (464.60 and 420.35 lbf.ft ) T.
       2 Loosen the upper bearing housing (9).
       3 Do steps 1_ and 2_ again.
       4 TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 600 and 500 m.N (442.48 and 368.73 lbf.ft )

   (13) Install the locking-plates (8) CMM 321293 as follow:
F Locking-Plate Hole Locations ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Make sure the locking-plates (8) are in position on the two-part stop (10) with the tenons and slots engaged.
     (b) Safety the locking-plates (8) with the 126168 JIG.
     (c) Drill three holes of diameter between 4.95 mm (0.195 in.) and 5.10 mm (0.201 in.) through each locking-plate (8) in the areas 'A'.
     (d) Lubricate the new screws (6) CMM 321293 with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (e) Install the new tab washers (7) CMM 321293 and the new screws (6).
     (f) TORQUE the screws (6) to between 6.5 and 5.5 m.N (57.52 and 48.67 lbf.in ) T.
     (g) Safety the screws (6) with the tab-washers (7).
   (14) Install the bearings (4) and (5) on the upper bearing housing (9).

460006211 LIFTING-TACKLE to remove the MLG shock absorber from the 460006212 TROLLEY-BUILD.
   (2) Install the MLG shock absorber (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-13-400-001).

A. Close Access
   (1) Use the 460006211 LIFTING-TACKLE to remove the MLG shock absorber from the 460007240 TROLLEY-BUILD.
   (2) Install the MLG shock absorber (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-13-400-001).

   (1) If necessary, open the spare-seal activating-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-13-860-002).

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the SAFETY BARRIER(S).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
