1. Reason for the Job
To activate the primary (lower) gland seals (to put the spare seal activating-valve to its initial position) after the gland seals replacement.
NOTE: It is possible to activate the primary (lower) seal again in seven days after the secondary seal is activated, to make sure that there is a leak.
If the primary seal is activated again and:
  • There is a leak found, activate the secondary (upper) seal again (Refer AMM task 32-11-13-860-001-A, To Close the Spare-Seal Activating-Valve).
  • There is no leak found, no maintenance is necessary.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-11-13-860-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. To Open the Spare-Seal Activating-Valve
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Remove and discard the lockwire from the spindle (2) and the pin (3).
   (2) To open the spare-seal activating-valve:
  • Use your hand to turn the spindle (2) counter-clockwise to its stop.
   (3) Install the AIPC 32-11-11-65-180 CAP SCREW (1).
   (4) Torque the cap screw (1) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in )

   (5) Safety the cap screw (1) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
Subtask 32-11-13-860-053-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. To Open the Spare-Seal Activating-Valve
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Remove and discard the lockwire from the stem valve (1).
   (2) To open the spare-seal activating-valve:
  • Use your hand to turn the stem valve (1) counter-clockwise to its stop.
NOTE: The visual indicator on the spare-seal activating-valve changes from red to green.
   (3) Safety the stem valve (1) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy - to the spare-seal activating-valve housing.
5. Close-up

A. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Make a record in the aircraft log that the spare-seal activating-valve is open.
