A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position adjacent to the location of the RAT (forward of the left main landing-gear door).
   (2) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (3) Do the EIS start procedure (upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
   (4) Make sure that the 98D29208246000 SAFETY DEVICE-RAT or the 98D29208246001 DEVICE-SAFETY,RAT is removed from the RAT stowage compartment.

A. Operational Test of the Manual Deployment and the Retraction of the RAT
ACTION
RESULT
1.On the ECAM control panel:
On the lower ECAM DU:
  • press the HYD pushbutton.
  • the HYD page is shown.
  • the RAT triangle symbol is shown white.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE RAT TRAVEL RANGE IS CLEAR BEFORE YOU EXTEND/RETRACT THE RAT.
CAUTION: DO NOT PUSH THE RAT MAN ON PUSHBUTTON SWITCHES FOR MORE THAN 1 MINUTE YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE IF YOU PUSH THE RAT MAN ON PUSHBUTTON SWITCHES FOR MORE THAN 1 MINUTE.
2.On the overhead panel 40VU:
At the RAT stowage area:
  • lift the guard and push the RAT MAN ON switch.
  • the RAT fully extends.

On the glare shields:
  • the MASTER CAUTION light comes on and you can hear a single chime.

On the HYD page of the lower ECAM DU:

  • the RAT triangle symbol changes to green when the RAT is fully extended.

On the upper ECAM DU:
  • the legends RAT FAULT and RAT OUT are shown in amber.
3.On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:
On the RAT ground control panel 3GE:
  • set the switch LAMP TEST to the test position and hold it there.
  • the interlock warning lamp comes on,
  • the actuator pressure lamp comes on,
  • the RAT stowed lamp comes on.
  • release the switch LAMP TEST.
  • all lamps go off on the panel 3GE.
4.Set the 28VDC switch to the ON position.

5.Manually set the blades of the RAT out of line with the leg assembly.

6.Pressurize the Blue hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-863-003).

7.On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:

  • set the stow switch to the STOW position and hold it there.
  • the red actuator pressure light comes on.
  • the RAT starts to retract but stops when it has travelled 8.5 deg.
  • the interlock warning lamp comes on in amber.
  • the red actuator pressure light goes off.

NOTE: If there is a fault, the RAT may not stop when it has travelled 8.5 deg. If this happens, you must release the STOW switch before the RAT comes into contact with the aircraft. The RAT will then stop and go back to its fully extended position.
If the RAT does not stop, retract it with the blades in line with the leg assembly and replace the RAT at the next opportunity.
8.On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:
On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:
  • release the stow switch.
  • the stow switch moves to the center position.
  • set the stow switch to the RESET position.
  • the interlock warning lamp goes off.
  • release the stow switch.
  • the stow switch moves to the center position.
9.Manually set the blades of the RAT in line with the leg assembly.

10.On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:

  • set the stow switch to the STOW position and hold it there.
  • the RAT retracts to its stowage position.

On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:

  • the red actuator pressure light comes on,
  • the green RAT stowed light comes on.
11.On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:
On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:
  • release the stow switch.
  • the stow switch moves to the center position,
  • the red actuator pressure light goes off after a short time.
12.On the overhead panel 21VU:
At the RAT stowage area:
  • lift the guard and push the MAN ON/AUTO switch in the EMER ELEC PWR section.
  • the RAT extends.

On the glareshields:

  • the MASTER CAUTION lights come on and you can hear a single chime.

On the HYD page of the lower ECAM DU:

  • the RAT triangle symbol changes to green when the RAT is fully extended.

On the upper ECAM DU:

  • the legends RAT FAULT and RAT OUT are shown in amber.
13.Retract the RAT (see above).

14.On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:
On the RAT ground control-panel 3GE:
  • set the 28VDC switch to the OFF position.
  • the green RAT stowed light goes off.
15.Depressurize the Blue hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).

16.At the RAT leg assembly:

  • make sure that the RAT filter indicator is in the IN position.

B. Inspection of the Index Locking Mechanism
   (1) When the RAT is fully retracted in its stowage position install the safety device (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-00-860-007).
   (2) Move the propeller blades slightly by hand.
   (3) Make sure that the plunger of the index locking mechanism is fully engaged and no further movement of the propeller is possible.
   (4) If the plunger does not engage fully remove the safety device (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-00-860-008) and extend and retract the RAT again, see above, and repeat steps (1) thru (3).
   (5) If the plunger once again does not engage fully, you must replace the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-010).
   (6) Make sure that the safety device is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-00-860-008).
