B. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the emergency control handle (8) is set to DISARMED/MANUAL.
   (2) Install the 98D52103500000 SAFETY PIN - SLIDE ARMING (7) in the emergency control handle (8).
   (3) Open the applicable passenger/crew door from the inner side of the passenger compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-010-001).
   (4) Prevent damage to the fuselage:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PROTECTION IS IN POSITION ON THE FUSELAGE BELOW THE DOOR SILL. DEPLOYMENT OF THE ESCAPE-SLIDE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THIS AREA.
CAUTION: USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED MATERIALS AND OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURERS. OTHER MATERIALS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION OF THE COMPONENTS AND THE RELATED AREA.
     (a) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable passenger/crew door.
     (b) Put the protection material in position on the fuselage:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PROTECTION IS CORRECLTY ATTACHED WITH TAPE TO THE AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE. THIS PREVENTS THE SUCTION OF LOOSE MATERIAL INTO THE ASPIRATOR DURING DEPLOYMENT. LOOSE MATERIAL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ASPIRATOR.
1        2 Use adhesive tape Sealing Profile-Vaccum Bag Sealant - - (Material No.14JEA1) and attach the Laminate Repair Patch-Fire compliant - Cargo (Material No.13XCA4) to the surface of the fuselage below the door sill.
NOTE: The protection material is a lamination of fiberglass reinforced polyester (or equivalent material) which has a minimum thickness of 1.2 mm (0.05 in.). It is thin and resistant to impact. It applies the load equally to prevent damage to the fuselage.
NOTE: You cannot use the bubble wrap as a protection material for the fuselage.
     (c) If you do the deployment test on the right aft door:
  • Make sure that the outflow valve is closed.
  • Make sure that you do not attach the protection material to the outflow valve.
   (5) Do the ground safety procedure:
WARNING: PUT SAFETY BARRIERS IN POSITION TO KEEP THE TRAVEL RANGE OF THE ESCAPE-SLIDE CLEAR. IF YOU DO NOT, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Make sure that an area with a radius of approximately 12.0 m (39.37 ft.) below the applicable passenger/crew door is clear of all the equipment.
     (b) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
     (c) Put the SHEET - PLASTIC in position where the escape slide hits the ground. For the location of this component, refer to Para. Component Location (Ref. AMM D/O 25-62-00-00).
     (d) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to go in the area behind the safety barrier(s).
   (6) Push the pushbutton (2) and pull the support arm (3) to get access to the door damper and the emergency operation cylinder:
     (a) Record the pressure value shown on the pressure gage (11).
     (b) Compare the recorded pressure value on the pressure gage (11) with the values on the chart.
NOTE: You can find the chart on the placard which is on the door support-arm lining.
     (c) With the THERMOMETER, record the ambient temperature value.
     (d) Compare the recorded ambient temperature value with the values on the chart.
     (e) If the emergency operation cylinder is discharged, charge it (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-614-001).
     (f) Make sure that the door damper and the emergency operation cylinder are in armed position (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-860-002).
   (7) Close the applicable passenger/crew door from the inner side of the passenger compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 52-10-00-410-001).
   (8) Make sure that the needle of the pressure gage (10) is in the green zone.
   (9) Make sure that the decorative cover (4) is installed.
NOTE: The secondary function of the decorative cover (4) is to make sure that the escape slide/raft does not touch the possible hang-up points frequently.
   (10) In the cockpit, on the overhead panel, on the SIGNS sections of panel 25VU, set the EMER EXIT LT switch (1) to ARM.
NOTE: The position of the EMER EXIT LT switch (1) is important for a satisfactory test of the escape slide/raft.
4. Procedure
Subtask 25-62-00-710-051-A
A. Operational Test of the Escape Slide Deployment
   (1) Prepare the VIDEO CAMERA(s):
NOTE: We recommend to use three VIDEO CAMERA(s) and the STOPWATCH to record and measure the time of the deployment sequence. The operator's local authority can make it mandatory to use the VIDEO CAMERA(s) to record the deployment sequence.
     (a) Put the VIDEO CAMERA(s) in these positions:
1 Two VIDEO CAMERA(s) on the outside of the aircraft, behind the safety barrier:
  • One opposite the door
  • One parallel to the fuselage (the camera must point in the direction of the door).
2 One VIDEO CAMERA in the aircraft, opposite the door.
3 If only one VIDEO CAMERA is available, then you can put it on the outside of the aircraft, opposite the door, behind the safety barrier.
     (b) Set the focus of the VIDEO CAMERA(s) to manual mode.
     (c) Make sure that the VIDEO CAMERA(s) is (are) zoomed out.
   (2) Do a visual check of the girt-bar floor visual-indicator.
   (3) Remove the 98D52103500000 SAFETY PIN - SLIDE ARMING (7) and set the emergency control handle (8) to ARMED/AUTOMATIC.
   (4) Start the VIDEO CAMERA(s).
   (5) Measure the time of the deployment sequence as follows:
     (a) Start the STOPWATCH when the door starts to move up from the door cut-out.
     (b) Stop the STOPWATCH when the escape slide fully extends and hangs below the horizontal position.
     (c) In the usual test conditions (in the hangar), make sure that the full sequence is not more than 10 seconds. This agrees with JAA 25.809 (f) (1) (ii).
   (6) Open the door:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU SET THE DOOR CONTROL HANDLE TO "OPEN". THE DOOR OPENS WITH SUDDEN FORCE. YOU MUST RELEASE THE DOOR CONTROL HANDLE TO PREVENT INJURY.
WARNING: IF THE ESCAPE SLIDE DOES NOT INFLATE AUTOMATICALLY, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • NO PERSONS OR EQUIPMENT ARE IN THE SLIDE DEPLOYMENT AREA, AND
  • THE DOOR IS IN ITS FULLY OPEN AND LOCKED POSITION, AND
  • THE SLIDE IS FULLY RELEASED OUTSIDE THE CABIN,
THEN PULL THE MANUAL HANDLE TO INFLATE THE SLIDE.
     (a) Hold the assist handle (5) which is on the door frame lining.
     (b) Lift the door control handle (6) and quickly release it.
NOTE: The door opens automatically and locks in the open position. At the same time:
  • The deployment (release, unfold and inflation) sequence starts
  • The light harness on the escape slide comes on automatically.
The door actuator has a hydraulic device which can cause a small pause in the door opening sequence. This makes sure that the escape slide deploys before the door locks in the open position.
   (7) Put the safety barrier strap (9) in position across the exit.
   (8) Stop the video cameras. If necessary, use the recorded video to make an analysis of the deployment sequence.
   (9) Record the time of the deployment sequence. After you remove the deployed escape slide for restoration, keep this information with the deployed escape slide.
   (10) In the cockpit, on the overhead panel, on the SIGNS sections of panel 25VU, set the EMER EXIT LT switch (1) to OFF.
   (11) Record the deployment in the report form (Ref. AMM TASK 25-62-00-910-801).
