4. Procedure
Subtask 24-21-41-220-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Torque Check of the QAD Adapter Tension-Bolt
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Cut and discard the lockwire from the QAD adapter tension-bolt (2).
   (2) Spray Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing Oily Film System (Material No.12ABE2) on:
  • The QAD ring (1)
  • The mating surface between the QAD adapter and the QAD ring (1), where you have access.
   (3) Lubricate the QAD adapter tension-bolt (2) with P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine.
   (4) Measure the torque value of the QAD adapter tension-bolt (2).
   (5) If the torque value of the QAD adapter tension-bolt (2) is less than 22 lbf.ft (2.98 m.daN), TORQUE the QAD adapter tension-bolt (2) to between 26 and 22 lbf.ft (3.53 and 2.98 m.daN ) T.
   (6) Tap the edge of the QAD ring (1) that you can see with the DRIFT - BRASS to make sure that the torque value you measure is correct.
   (7) Do steps (3) and (4) again until the torque value does not decrease by more than 2 lbf.ft (0.27 m.daN).
   (8) TORQUE the QAD adapter tension-bolt (2) to between 26 and 22 lbf.ft (3.53 and 2.98 m.daN )
T.
   (9) Lightly shake the anti-drive end of the IDG to make sure that the QAD adapter is correctly connected.
     (a) If the IDG is loose:
     (b) If the IDG is not loose, continue this procedure.
   (10) Do steps (4) and (5) again until the torque value does not decrease by more than 2 lbf.ft (0.27 m.daN).
   (11) Do a check of the distance between the ring lug and the bracket of the QAD ring (1):
   (12) Measure the distance between the ring lug and the bracket of the QAD ring (1) with the CALIPER.
     (a) If the distance is less than 0.125 in. (3.17 mm):
1 Replace the IDG but keep the IDG accessory hoist installed and do not attach tubes, harnesses and other components (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-803) and (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-803).
       2 Measure the distance again:
a If the distance is correct:
  • Send the worn IDG that you removed to the workshop. After you do this, it is mandatory to replace the input flange.
b If the distance is not correct:
     (b) If the distance is more than 0.125 in. (3.17 mm):
1 Safety the QAD adapter tension-bolt (2) with the Lockwire (Material No.P05-289) or the Safety Cable (Material No.P05-291) and the Safety Cable Ferrule (Material No.P05-292) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-813) and (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-811).
