YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). E. Get Access

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
(3) Installation of the engine protection covers
CAUTION:
INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(a) Install all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine. CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 24-21-51-680-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Draining of the Oil from the IDG
(1) Locate the IDG (1) attached to the gearbox at the seven o'clock position.
(2) Drain the oil from the IDG system before you remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-680-802).

(2) Drain the oil from the IDG system before you remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-680-802).
B. Visual Inspection of the Components
(1) Remove the IDG-oil scavenge filter-element (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-804).
(2) Do a visual inspection of the IDG-oil scavenge filter-element.
(a) If you smell fuel from the filter element or the filter cover, do the servicing of the IDG after oil chemical contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-804).
(b) If there are no signs of metal particles, install the filter element you removed (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-804) and go to Para. C. of this procedure.
(c) If there are bright metal particles and:
1 The filter element and/or the O-ring(s) is (are) damaged (there is a risk of particles in the external circuit):
a Discard the damaged filter element or/and the O-rings.
b Remove the AC generator oil tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-55-000-802) and clean them.
c Remove the fuel/oil IDG heat-exchanger (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-42-000-802), oil/oil IDG heat-exchanger (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-42-000-803) and send it to the overhaul facility and go to Para. C. of this procedure.
Subtask 24-21-51-020-111-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the IDG-oil scavenge filter-element (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-804).
(2) Do a visual inspection of the IDG-oil scavenge filter-element.
(a) If you smell fuel from the filter element or the filter cover, do the servicing of the IDG after oil chemical contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-804).
(b) If there are no signs of metal particles, install the filter element you removed (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-804) and go to Para. C. of this procedure.

b Remove the AC generator oil tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-55-000-802) and clean them.
c Remove the fuel/oil IDG heat-exchanger (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-42-000-802), oil/oil IDG heat-exchanger (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-42-000-803) and send it to the overhaul facility and go to Para. C. of this procedure.
NOTE: Before you install a new IDG, install a new fuel/oil IDG heat-exchanger, a new oil/oil IDG heat-exchanger and the clean AC generator oil tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-42-400-802) (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-42-400-803) (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-55-400-802).
2 The filter element and the O-rings are not damaged (no risk of particles in the external circuit): - Install the filter element you removed (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-804), and go to Para. C. of this procedure.
NOTE: If you install the same IDG, install a new IDG oil scavenge-filter (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-803).
C. Removal of the IDG (1)
(1) Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the IDG (1) with the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
(2) Disconnect the oil tubes (LS01) and (LS04) from the IDG (1) as follows:
(b) Disconnect the tubes (LS01) and (LS04) from the IDG (1).
(c) Let the oil drain.
(3) Remove the two terminal cover bolts (3).
(4) Remove the terminal cover (2).
(5) Remove the four nuts (4).
(6) Disconnect the IDG power cables.
(7) Install the four nuts (4) on the power terminals and tighten them with your hand.
(8) Install the cover (2) on the IDG (1) with the two bolts (3). Tighten the bolts (3) with your hand.
(9) Lift the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW with the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM) to the IDG (1). Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(10) Attach the IDG (1) to the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW as follows:
(11) Adjust the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW to support the weight of the IDG (1). Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(12) Removal of the lockwire
(13) Turn the QAD tension bolt to open the QAD adapter and allow movement of the IDG (1).
(14) Align the mark on the QAD coupling with the mark on the QAD adapter plate.
(15) Pull the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM) straight out to remove the IDG (1) from the gearbox.
(16) Lower the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM). Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(17) Unstrap the IDG (1) from the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW. Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(18) Remove and discard the packings (5) and (6).
5. Close-up(1) Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the IDG (1) with the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
(2) Disconnect the oil tubes (LS01) and (LS04) from the IDG (1) as follows:
CAUTION:
USE A SECOND WRENCH TO HOLD THE MATING PARTS WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE TUBE OR HOSE NUTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS CAUTION, YOU CAN TWIST OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TUBES OR HOSES.
(a) Put the CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL) in position below the IDG (1). (b) Disconnect the tubes (LS01) and (LS04) from the IDG (1).
(c) Let the oil drain.
(3) Remove the two terminal cover bolts (3).
(4) Remove the terminal cover (2).
(5) Remove the four nuts (4).
(6) Disconnect the IDG power cables.
(7) Install the four nuts (4) on the power terminals and tighten them with your hand.
(8) Install the cover (2) on the IDG (1) with the two bolts (3). Tighten the bolts (3) with your hand.
(9) Lift the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW with the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM) to the IDG (1). Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(10) Attach the IDG (1) to the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW as follows:
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU APPLY ONLY SUFFICIENT PRESSURE WITH THE JACK TO HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE IDG. TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE IDG OR FAILURE TO HOLD THE IDG CORRECTLY CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INPUT SHAFT SEAL.
(a) Attach the IDG (1) to the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW with the detail strap. Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions. (11) Adjust the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW to support the weight of the IDG (1). Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(12) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the QAD tension bolt. (13) Turn the QAD tension bolt to open the QAD adapter and allow movement of the IDG (1).
(14) Align the mark on the QAD coupling with the mark on the QAD adapter plate.
(15) Pull the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM) straight out to remove the IDG (1) from the gearbox.
(16) Lower the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM). Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(17) Unstrap the IDG (1) from the 98D71203016000 IDG R/I CRADLE PW. Refer to GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(18) Remove and discard the packings (5) and (6).
Subtask 24-21-51-020-121-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the IDG Fittings
(1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the fittings (14) and (15).
(b) Remove the fitting (14) from the IDG port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(c) Remove and discard the packing (13) from the fitting (14).
(d) Remove the fitting (15) from the IDG port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (16) from the fitting (15).
Subtask 24-21-51-020-117-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the fittings (14) and (15).
(b) Remove the fitting (14) from the IDG port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(c) Remove and discard the packing (13) from the fitting (14).
(d) Remove the fitting (15) from the IDG port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (16) from the fitting (15).
B. Remove the Overfill Drain-Valve Coupling from the IDG
(1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the overfill drain-valve coupling (8).
(b) Remove the cable of pressure cover (7) from the nut of the IDG.
(c) Remove the pressure cover (7) from the overfill drain-valve coupling (8) and keep it for subsequent installation.
(d) Remove the overfill drain-valve coupling (8) from the overfill drain-valve port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (9) from the overfill drain-valve coupling (8).
Subtask 24-21-51-020-119-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the overfill drain-valve coupling (8).
(b) Remove the cable of pressure cover (7) from the nut of the IDG.
(c) Remove the pressure cover (7) from the overfill drain-valve coupling (8) and keep it for subsequent installation.
(d) Remove the overfill drain-valve coupling (8) from the overfill drain-valve port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (9) from the overfill drain-valve coupling (8).
C. Remove the Pressure Fill-Valve Coupling from the IDG
(1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Make sure that the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) is below the pressure fill-valve coupling (11).
(b) Remove the cable of pressure cover (12) from the nut of the IDG.
(c) Remove the pressure cover (12) from the pressure fill-valve coupling (11) and keep it for subsequent installation.
(d) Remove the pressure fill-valve coupling (11) from the pressure fill-valve port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (10) from the pressure fill-valve coupling (11).
Subtask 24-21-51-420-169-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Make sure that the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) is below the pressure fill-valve coupling (11).
(b) Remove the cable of pressure cover (12) from the nut of the IDG.
(c) Remove the pressure cover (12) from the pressure fill-valve coupling (11) and keep it for subsequent installation.
(d) Remove the pressure fill-valve coupling (11) from the pressure fill-valve port and keep it for subsequent installation.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (10) from the pressure fill-valve coupling (11).
D. Installation of the IDG Shipping Plugs
(1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Install a new AIPC 24-21-51-51-240 PACKING (21) on the shipping plug (22).
1 Install the shipping plug (22) on the IDG port.
(b) Install a new AIPC 24-21-51-51-260 PACKING (23) on the shipping plug (24).
1 Install the shipping plug (24) on the IDG port.
(c) Install a new packing (17) (P/N M83248-1-912 or P/N M83485-1-912 or P/N AS3208-12) on the shipping plug (18) (P/N 2408-93-12).
1 Install the shipping plug (18) on the IDG port.
(d) Install a new packing (20) (P/N M83248-1-910 or P/N M83485-1-910 or P/N AS3208-10) on the shipping plug (19) (P/N 2408-88-12).
1 Install the shipping plug (19) on the IDG port.
(1) If you replace the IDG:
(a) Install a new AIPC 24-21-51-51-240 PACKING (21) on the shipping plug (22).
1 Install the shipping plug (22) on the IDG port.
(b) Install a new AIPC 24-21-51-51-260 PACKING (23) on the shipping plug (24).
1 Install the shipping plug (24) on the IDG port.
(c) Install a new packing (17) (P/N M83248-1-912 or P/N M83485-1-912 or P/N AS3208-12) on the shipping plug (18) (P/N 2408-93-12).
