A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 79-36-00-010-050-A
B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
437AL 438AR
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
447AL 448AR
   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 79-36-00-220-050-A
A. Detailed Inspection of the ODMS Sensor for Debris
NOTE: CFM recommends to perform this task only when requested by another AMM/TSM/scheduled maintenance task or CFM instructions.
NOTE: When customer notification report is received, make sure to perform this task within customer notification report urgency requirements.
   (1) Remove the ODMS sensor (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-36-10-000-801).
CAUTION: TAG THE REMOVED PARTICLES WITH THE ODMS SENSOR NAME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THERE IS A RISK THAT: - THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE SOURCE OF THE MATERIAL WILL BE INCORRECT DURING THE VISUAL INSPECTION AND LABORATORY ANALYSIS - THE INTERPRETATION OF THE RESULTS IN RELATION TO THE SERVICEABLE CRITERIA WILL NOT BE ACCURATE, AND - DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.
CAUTION: CFM DOES NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF ADHESIVE TAPE. HOWEVER, IF A PIECE OF ADHESIVE TAPE IS USED TO COLLECT THE PARTICLES, MAKE SURE THE ADHESIVE IS NOT TOO STRONG. IF THE ADHESIVE ON THE TAPE IS TOO STRONG, THE PARTICLES MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THEY ARE REMOVED AND/OR IT WILL AFFECT THE LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF THE MATERIAL.
NOTE: The chip count value is the chip count value in the flight deck multipurpose control & display unit screen.
   (2) Inspect the ODMS sensor (2) for material presence on the magnetic tip (1) with a MAGNIFYING GLASS POWER 10X.
     (a) If no findings:
       1 If chip count value = 0:
         a No further action.
       2 If chip count value > 0:
a Do a check for the fault of the ODMS TSM 79-36-00-810-803.
b Do an oil debris reset (Ref. AMM TASK 79-36-00-740-801).
3 Install the ODMS sensor (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-36-10-400-801).
     (b) If you find material:
1 Carefully remove the particles from the ODMS sensor (2) with a clean lint-free cloth (Material No.CP2674) and keep them on sheets of PAPER - THIN.
a Take pictures of the particles on the magnetic tip (1) of the ODMS sensor (2), before removing them.
b Carefully remove the particles from the magnetic tip (1) and keep them on the PAPER - THIN.
         c Clean the magnetic tip (1) with a lint-free cloth (Material No.CP2674) .
d Make sure that the chip detector is free of all particles.
NOTE: If all the particles are not removed from the ODMS sensor (2), a discrepancy between the collected particles and the chips count value can occur at the next ODMS sensor (2) inspection.
e Install the ODMS sensor (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-36-10-400-801).
   (3) Check particle size with a MAGNIFYING GLASS POWER 10X and use scale paper to take pictures.
NOTE: Normal fuzz only (less than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm)) is not expected with ECAM warning or chip count shift.
     (a) If you find only very fine particles like powder, less than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) (normal fuzz) in any dimension on the magnetic tip (1) of the ODMS sensor (2):
       1 If chip count value = 0:
         a No further action.
       2 If chip count value > 0:
a Do an oil debris reset (Ref. AMM TASK 79-36-00-740-801) to reset chip count value.
3 Continue the engine in service.
     (b) If you find particles that are larger than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) (abnormal fuzz) in any dimension on the magnetic tip (1) of the ODMS sensor (2), do the steps that follow:
       1 If chip count value = 0:
a Do a check for the fault of the ODMS TSM 79-36-00-810-803.
       2 If chip count value > 0:
CAUTION: DO NOT RESET THE ODMS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE ENGINE.
         a Do not reset ODMS.
3 Analyze particles (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-805).
4 Do a check of the A, B and C sumps and the accessory gearbox and transfer gearbox sumps scavenge screen plugs for further troubleshooting (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-200-806).
5 Do a check of the air turbine starter magnetic plug (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-05-210-801).
5. Close-up
