A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU TAGGED THE REMOVED PARTICLES WITH THE NAMES OF: - THE ODMS SENSOR - THE SCAVENGE SCREEN - THE STARTER MAGNETIC PLUG - THE OIL FILTER CARTRIDGE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THERE IS A RISK THAT: - THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE SOURCE OF THE MATERIAL WILL BE INCORRECT DURING THE VISUAL INSPECTION AND LABORATORY ANALYSIS - THE INTERPRETATION OF THE RESULTS RELATED TO SERVICEABLE CRITERIA AND DAMAGE WILL NOT BE ACCURATE, AND - DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.
Subtask 79-00-00-281-062-A
A. Analyze Particles
   (1) Do the visual inspection of the particles collected from the ODMS sensor, scavenge screen plugs, starter magnetic plug and oil filter cartridge to identify the physical properties of the material (shape, size, quantity, magnetic properties, color). Proceed as followed:
     (a) Use the MAGNIFYING GLASS POWER 10X lens to examine the particles.
     (b) Any quantity of material that is less than or equal to 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) (normal fuzz) in all dimension is satisfactory with no need to send particles for analysis.
NOTE:
  • Material that is larger than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) in any dimension is not normal fuzz.
  • Normal fuzz (material that is less than or equal to 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) in all dimensions) can be noticed on the new engines or engines after overhaul.
     (c) Refer to NDT manual Part 9 "LEAP-00-70-30-05-02A-371B-D" and Part 10 "LEAP-00-70-30-04-02A-370B-D" to identify possible source or refer to the Field Guide for Lubrication System Debris Tool Number GEK 131722 for examples of shapes that may be seen on the ODMS sensor, scavenge screen plugs, starter magnetic plug and oil filter cartridge.
   (2) Examine the particles:
     (a) Compare the particles found to the descriptions in the figures to identify the particles, their potential source from within the engine and the recommendations. To identify the particles, take into consideration:
  • Size
  • Shape
  • Quantity
  • Nature (magnetic/non magnetic/non metallic)
  • Color
  • Origin (sump/filter/ODMS Sensor).
NOTE: If you find some magnetic material on the accessory gearbox scavenge screen plug, make sure you examine the starter magnetic plug for contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-05-210-801).
     (b) Identify the nature of particles greater than normal fuzz from all sources (ODMS and/or scavenge screen, starter magnetic plug, oil filter). If material cannot be visually identified, send the particles to a laboratory for chemical analysis according to NDT manual Part 10.
       1
CAUTION: IF YOU FIND BEARING SPALLING MATERIAL, DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE UNTIL YOU MAKE AN ANALYSIS OF A SAMPLE OF MAGNETIC PARTICLES. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT AND THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.

   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
437AL 438AR
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
