Subtask 79-00-00-210-098-A (1) The triple stage scavenge screen plug (4) is assembled with:
(a) The AGB sump (6).
(b) The A sump (3).
(c) The B sump (5).
(2) The double stage scavenge screen plug (9) is assembled with:
(a) The C sump (10).
(b) The transfer gearbox sump (8).
B. Visual Inspection of the Scavenge Screen Plugs for Debris
(2) Visually inspect the O-rings (2) and (7) of each scavenge screen plug.
(a) (b) If there is a piece of O-ring in the lubrication unit lube and scavenge pump scavenge cavity (11), remove and keep it.
(c) Make sure that the piece of O-ring aligns with the cut O-ring.
1 If it aligns, discard it.
2 If it does not align:
a Take pictures of the piece of the O-ring.
b Dimension of the cut O-ring section and estimated radius.
c Analyze the oil particles (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-805).
(4) If you find some magnetic material on the AGB scavenge screen plug, examine the starter magnetic plug for contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-05-210-801).
(5) If both triple stage scavenge screen plug (4) and the double stage scavenge screen plug (9) are free from debris, do the following steps:
(a) Clean the scavenge screens with the stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) .
(b) Make sure that the scavenge screens are free of all particles.
(6) If there are debris particles on either triple stage scavenge screen plug (4) or the double stage scavenge screen plug (9), do the following steps:
(a) Take pictures of the particles on the concerned scavenge screen sump.
(b) Carefully remove the particles from the screens and keep them on the PAPER - THIN.
1 Keep the particles from each sump separate and put them on a separate PAPER - THIN.
(c) Keep the material collected from each scavenge screen separately with the following information attached: ESN, TSC/CSN, source of particles (sump) and removal date.
(f) Clean the scavenge screens with the stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) .
(g) Make sure that the scavenge screens are free of all particles.
(7) Installation of the scavenge screen plugs:
(8) Analyze the oil particles (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-805).
5. Close-upCAUTION:
REMOVE AND INSPECT THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUGS ONE BY ONE TO BE SURE OF THE ORIGIN OF THE PARTICLES.
CAUTION:
TAG THE REMOVED PARTICLES WITH THE RIGHT SUMP NAME TO PREVENT AN ERROR IN THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE MATERIAL SOURCE DURING VISUAL CHARACTERIZATION AND LABORATORY ANALYSIS. A MATERIAL-SOURCE IDENTIFICATION ERROR CAN CAUSE INCORRECT INTERPRETATION OF THE FINDINGS IN RELATION TO THE SERVICEABLE CRITERIA, AND DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
(1) Remove the triple stage scavenge screen plug (4) and the double stage scavenge screen plug (9) from the lubrication unit (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-05-000-801).
NOTE: If the piece of O-ring is not removed during the inspection of the scavenge screen plug, there is a possibility to have a piece of O-ring left in the lubrication unit lube and scavenge pump scavenge cavity (11). If this piece of O-ring is not removed before scavenge screen plug installation, it will be trapped in the screen during the next engine operation. At the next scavenge screen plug inspection, this piece of O-ring will be found and if the O-ring is not cut during the visual inspection, this will cause confusion and potentially lead to unnecessary actions to troubleshoot the problem.
(3) Visually inspect the triple stage scavenge screen plug (4) and the double stage scavenge screen plug (9) of the lubrication unit (1) for debris.(4) If you find some magnetic material on the AGB scavenge screen plug, examine the starter magnetic plug for contamination (Ref.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE A MAGNET WITH TOO MUCH MAGNETIC POWER TO REMOVE THE PARTICLES FROM THE SCAVENGE SCREENS PLUGS. A MAGNET WITH A STRONG MAGNETIC POWER CAN DECREASE THE MAGNETIC PERFORMANCE OF THE MAGNETIC CHIP DETECTOR.
(d) Use the MAGNET to separate the magnetic particles. NOTE: The characteristics of the magnetic bar retriever with no impact on the scavenge screen plug magnetic field are as follows:
(e) Remove the oil from the collected particles with the stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) or the white spirit (Material No.CP2010) . - BHmax = 5.5 MGOe (maximum energy product of the magnetic field strength and the magnetic flux density)
- Br = 12.8 kG (remanence, the residual magnetism left behind after an external magnetic field is removed)
- Hc = 640 Oe (coercivity, the measure of the ability to withstand an external magnetic field without becoming demagnetized).
(f) Clean the scavenge screens with the stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) .
(g) Make sure that the scavenge screens are free of all particles.
(7) Installation of the scavenge screen plugs:
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU REPLACE THE O-RING IN EACH SCAVENGE-SCREEN GROOVE LOCATION, MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE THE CORRECT PART NUMBER. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE DIFFERENT O-RINGS ARE ALMOST THE SAME. IF YOU DO NOT USE THE CORRECT PART NUMBER, DAMAGE TO THE LUBRICATION UNIT SYSTEM CAN OCCUR.
(a) Install the triple stage scavenge screen plug (4) and the double stage scavenge screen plug (9) in the lubrication unit (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-05-400-801). (8) Analyze the oil particles (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-805).
