Installation of the Scavenge Screen Plugs


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 79-21-05-941-051-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-21-05-420-050-A
A. Installation of the Double-Stage Scavenge Screen-Plug in the Lubrication Unit
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC CHIP PLUG (PRE SB 79-0008 CONFIGURATION) FROM THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUG. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC CHIP PLUG (PRE SB 79-0008 CONFIGURATION) TO REMOVE THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUG. IF YOU DO, AN OIL LEAK CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Remove all the CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (3) Lubricate the threads of the bolt (12) with CP2101 graphite grease.
   (4) Lubricate the new EIPC 79-21-05-10-080 O-RING (9) and the new EIPC 79-21-05-10-090 O-RING (10) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) .
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REPLACE THE O-RING IN EACH SCAVENGE-SCREEN GROOVE LOCATION, MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE THE CORRECT PART NUMBER. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE DIFFERENT O-RINGS ARE ALMOST THE SAME. IF YOU DO NOT USE THE CORRECT PART NUMBER, DAMAGE TO THE LUBRICATION UNIT SYSTEM CAN OCCUR.
   (5) Install the O-ring (10) and the O-ring (9) in the grooves of the double-stage scavenge screen-plug (2).
   (6) Install the double-stage scavenge screen-plug (2) in the lubrication unit (1).
   (7) Install the bolt (12) to attach the double-stage scavenge screen-plug (2) on the lubrication unit (1) and tighten it with your hand.
   (8) TORQUE the bolt (12) to between 74.4 and 67.4 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.76 m.daN ) T.

B. Installation of the Triple-Stage Scavenge Screen-Plug in the Lubrication Unit
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC CHIP PLUG (PRE SB 79-0008 CONFIGURATION) FROM THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUG. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC CHIP PLUG (PRE SB 79-0008 CONFIGURATION) TO REMOVE THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUG. IF YOU DO, AN OIL LEAK CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Remove all the CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (3) Lubricate the threads of the bolt (8) with CP2101 graphite grease.
   (4) Lubricate the new
EIPC 79-21-05-10-030 O-RING (4), the new EIPC 79-21-05-10-040 O-RING (5) and the new EIPC 79-21-05-10-050 O-RING (6) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) .
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REPLACE THE O-RING IN EACH SCAVENGE-SCREEN GROOVE LOCATION, MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE THE CORRECT PART NUMBER. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE DIFFERENT O-RINGS ARE ALMOST THE SAME. IF YOU DO NOT USE THE CORRECT PART NUMBER, DAMAGE TO THE LUBRICATION UNIT SYSTEM CAN OCCUR.
   (5) Install the O-ring (6), the O-ring (5) and the O-ring (4) in the grooves of the triple-stage scavenge screen-plug (3).
   (6) Install the triple-stage scavenge screen-plug (3) in the lubrication unit (1).
   (7) Install the bolt (8) to attach the triple-stage scavenge screen-plug (3) on the lubrication unit (1) and tighten it with your hand.
   (8) TORQUE the bolt (8) to between 74.4 and 67.4 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.76 m.daN ) T.
