Removal of the Scavenge Screen Plugs
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
DO NOT TOUCH THE FUEL OR OIL SYSTEM COMPONENTS FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUT DOWN. THE ENGINE COMPONENTS STAY HOT FOR SOME TIME AND CAN CAUSE INJURY.
WARNING:
USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 79-21-05-010-050-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

A. Removal of the Triple-Stage Scavenge Screen-Plug from the Lubrication Unit
(2) Removal of the triple stage scavenge screen plug (3):
(3) Remove and discard the O-ring (4), the O-ring (5) and the O-ring (6) from the grooves of the triple stage scavenge screen plug (3).
(4) Install the CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION on the all open ports, open tubes, hoses and connectors.
Subtask 79-21-05-020-051-A CAUTION:
DO NOT REMOVE THE HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC CHIP PLUG (PRE SB 79-0008 CONFIGURATION) FROM THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUG. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE THE HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC CHIP PLUG (PRE SB 79-0008 CONFIGURATION) TO REMOVE THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUG. IF YOU DO, AN OIL LEAK CAN OCCUR.
(1) Remove the bolt (8) that attaches the triple stage scavenge screen plug (3) to the lubrication unit (1). (2) Removal of the triple stage scavenge screen plug (3):
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER OR ANOTHER FLAT TOOL AS A LEVER. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(a) Remove the triple stage scavenge screen plug (3) from the lubrication unit (1). If necessary, turn the scavenge screen plugs before removal to free flanges to get more surfaces to apply the force. (3) Remove and discard the O-ring (4), the O-ring (5) and the O-ring (6) from the grooves of the triple stage scavenge screen plug (3).
(4) Install the CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION on the all open ports, open tubes, hoses and connectors.
NOTE: For PRE SB 79-0008 configuration, it is not necessary to remove the hexagonal magnetic chip plug (7) and the magnetic bar for inspection as particles will be caught only on the scavenge screen sleeve.
B. Removal of the Double-Stage Scavenge Screen-Plug from the Lubrication Unit
(2) Removal of the double stage scavenge screen plug (2):
(3) Remove and discard the O-ring (9) and the O-ring (10) from the grooves of the double stage scavenge screen plug (2).
(4) Install the CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION on the all open ports, open tubes, hoses and connectors.
CAUTION:
DO NOT REMOVE THE HEXAGONAL MAGNETIC CHIP PLUG (PRE SB 79-0008 CONFIGURATION) FROM THE SCAVENGE SCREEN PLUG. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.

(1) Remove the bolt (12) that attaches the double stage scavenge screen plug (2) to the lubrication unit (1). (2) Removal of the double stage scavenge screen plug (2):

DO NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER OR ANOTHER FLAT TOOL AS A LEVER. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(a) Remove the double stage scavenge screen plug (2) from the lubrication unit (1). If necessary, turn the scavenge screen plugs before removal to free flanges to get more surfaces to apply the force. (3) Remove and discard the O-ring (9) and the O-ring (10) from the grooves of the double stage scavenge screen plug (2).
(4) Install the CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION on the all open ports, open tubes, hoses and connectors.
NOTE: For PRE SB 79-0008 configuration, it is not necessary to remove the hexagonal magnetic chip plug (11) and the magnetic bar for inspection as particles will be caught only on the scavenge screen sleeve.
