3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-32-45-860-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010)

Subtask 78-32-45-040-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Make sure that the thrust reverser is deactivated:
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: DO NOT EXTEND THE THRUST REVERSER TRANSLATING SLEEVE WITH THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES FULLY OPEN. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO: - THE SYNCHRONIZING CABLES OF THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE - THE HINGE ACCESS PANELS OF THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES - THE PYLON PROFILES, AND - THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE.
CAUTION: IF YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES AFTER YOU EXTENDED THE TRANSLATING SLEEVES, MAKE SURE THAT: - THE SLATS ARE RETRACTED, AND - YOU REMOVE THE PROFILES AND THE HINGE ACCESS PANELS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) is deactivated (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).
Subtask 78-32-45-860-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Make sure that the thrust reverser translating sleeves are extended 3 in. (76.2 mm) to 4 in. (101.6 mm) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-010).
Subtask 78-32-45-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
E. Install the Drag link.
Pre SBN 78-0013
   (1) Install the drag link on the blocker door.
     (a) Put the drag link (5) into position on the blocker door (10).
     (b) Install the two washers (7), the bolt (8) and the nut (6).
NOTE: It is not recommended to re-use the nut (6) more than one time.
       1 If you have to re-use a self-locking nut more than one time, make sure that the breakaway torque value is more than 3.5 lbf.in (0.04 m.daN).
         a Refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001) for the standard practices for the used of the fasteners and (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013) for the general-torque tightening techniques.
       2 Make sure that there is a minimum one thread protrusion after the nut is fully engaged.
         a Refer to SRM 514211 for the proper thread protrusion.
     (c) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 70 and 50 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.57 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
     (d) Apply a torque stripe to the nut (6). Use the epoxy primer (Material No.V07-140) .

SBN 78-0013

   (2) Install the drag link on the blocker door.
NOTE: SBN 78-0013: Changed the attachment of the drag link to the blocker door.
     (a) Put the drag link (5) into position on the blocker door (10).
     (b) Install the two spacers (9), the four washers (7), the bolt (8) and the nut (6).
NOTE: It is not recommended to re-use the nut (6) more than one time.
       1 If you have to re-use a self-locking nut more than one time, make sure that the breakaway torque value is more than 3.5 lbf.in (0.04 m.daN).
         a Refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001) for the standard practices for the used of the fasteners and (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013) for the general-torque tightening techniques.
       2 Make sure that there is a minimum one thread protrusion after the nut is fully engaged.

4. Procedure
Subtask 78-32-45-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Left Thrust Reverser Blocker Doors
   (1) Installation of the blocker door
CAUTION: THE UPPER AND LOWER BLOCKER DOORS IN THE THRUST REVERSER HAVE DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS FROM THE OTHER THREE. MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE CORRECT BLOCKER DOOR IN THE CORRECT POSITION.
     (a) Install the blocker door (10) on the translating sleeve.
       1 Make sure to install the blocker door part numbers in the correct position.
     (b) Put the blocker door (10), with the drag link (5), to the position on the translating sleeve.
     (c) Install the bushings (11) and (4), washers (2) and (13), bolt (12) and nut (14) at the upper hinge of the blocker door (10).
NOTE: It is not recommended to re-use the nut (14) more than one time.
       1 If you have to re-use a self-locking nut more than one time, make sure that the breakaway torque value is more than 3.5 lbf.in (0.04 m.daN).
         a Refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001) for the standard practices for the used of the fasteners and (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013) for the general-torque tightening techniques.
       2 Make sure that there is a minimum one thread protrusion after the nut is fully engaged.
         a Refer to SRM 514211 for the proper thread protrusion.
     (d) Install the bushing (24), washers (23) and (22) and (21), bolt (3) and nut (1) at the lower hinge of the blocker door (10).
NOTE: It is not recommended to re-use the nut (1) more than one time.
       1 Do not use the hinge fitting anti-rotation tab as a counter wrench.
NOTE: This may lead to the bolt head or the anti-rotation tab damage.
         a Use an open end wrench to hold the bolt heads (3) and (12) when torquing the nuts (1) and (14).
       2 If you have to re-use a self-locking nut more than one time, make sure that the breakaway torque value is more than 3.5 lbf.in (0.04 m.daN).
         a Refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001) for the standard practices for the used of the fasteners and (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013) for the general-torque tightening techniques.
       3 Make sure that there is a minimum one thread protrusion after the nut is fully engaged.
         a Refer to SRM 514211 for the proper thread protrusion.
     (e) TORQUE the nuts (1) and (14) to between 70 and 50 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.57 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
     (f) Apply a torque stripe to the nuts (1) and (14). Use the epoxy primer (Material No.V07-140) .

PRE SBN 78-0032

   (2) Connect the drag link to the fitting.
     (a) Put the drag link (5) to the position in the fitting (18).
     (b) Install the pin (17) and the two washers (16).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (c) Safety the pin (17) with a new AIPC 78-32-45-81-060 COTTER PIN (15) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-40-11-911-014).

SBN 78-0032

   (3) Connect the drag link to the fitting.
NOTE: SBN 78-0032: Changed the attachment of the drag link to the fitting.
     (a) Put the drag link (5) to the position in the fitting (18).
     (b) Install the bolt (20), the washer (16) (for A1 engines) or the two washers (16) (for A5 engines) and the nut (19).
     (c) TORQUE the nut (19) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (d) Safety the nut (19) with a new AIPC 78-32-45-81-060 COTTER PIN (15) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-40-11-911-014).
   (4) Do step 4.B. through 4.G. only if you have installed a replacement blocker door.
Subtask 78-32-45-860-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Extend the translating sleeve manually to the fully extended position (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-010).
Subtask 78-32-45-220-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Examine the gap between the edge of the replacement blocker door and the C-duct fixed structure.
   (1) Make sure that the gap between the edge of the replacement blocker door (10) and the C-duct fixed structure is a minimum of 0.05 in. (1.27 mm).
If the gap is not 0.05 in. (1.27 mm) minimum, adjust the gap.
NOTE: Para. 4.E., 4.F. and 4.G. are applicable only when Para. 4.D. is accomplished.
Subtask 78-32-45-350-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Adjust the gap between the edge of the replacement blocker door and the C-duct fixed structure.
   (1) Remove material from the edge of the blocker door (10) until the gap between the blocker door and the C-duct fixed structure is 0.05 in. (1.27 mm).
Subtask 78-32-45-110-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
E. Clean Components:
   (1) Clean the bare metal area on the blocker door.
     (a) Clean the bare metal area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with solvent (Material No.V01-438) , Cleaning fluid (Material No.V01-012) or V01-031Acetone, Technical grade.
     (b) Remove the cleaning fluid with a clean lint free cloth before it becomes dry.
Subtask 78-32-45-370-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F. Painting Components:
   (1) Apply the conversion coating.
     (a) Mix the conversion coating (Material No.V07-028) , refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
     (b) Use a BRUSH - NYLON or COTTON SWAB to apply a layer of the conversion coating to the bare metal of the blocker door.
     (c) After three minutes, apply another layer of the conversion coating.
     (d) Do steps (b) and (c) again until three layers of the conversion coating have been applied.
     (e) Flush the surface of the last layer with clean water.
     (f) Dry the surface.
Subtask 78-32-45-370-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
G. Painting Components:
   (1) Apply the primer.
     (a) Mix the primer converter (Material No.V07-140) and the thinner (Material No.V07-139) , refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
     (b) Use a brush to apply the primer.
     (c) Let the primer cure for 7 hours at room temperature or for forty minutes between 140 deg.F (60 deg.C) and 180 deg.F (82 deg.C). Use an LIGHT SOURCE - HEAT, SPARK-PROOF.
NOTE: You can touch the primer after it has cured as described in step (c). The primer is fully cured after 7 days at room temperature.

A. Manually retract the translating sleeve (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-011).

   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

C. Activate the thrust reverser HCU (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-012).

D. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL, 438AR.
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL, 448AR.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).

E. Operational Test
   (1) Do an operational test of the thrust reverser system (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-041).
NOTE: As an alternative procedure, you can do the operational test without the CFDS (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-041).
