Subtask 78-32-00-941-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 78-32-00-010-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR
   (2) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR
Subtask 78-32-00-040-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Deactivate the thrust reverser.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Deactivate the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).
Subtask 78-32-00-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
D. Put the locking actuators in the unlocked position
F Thrust Reverser Locking Actuator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: DO NOT EXTEND THE THRUST REVERSER TRANSLATING SLEEVE WITH THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES FULLY OPEN. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO: - THE SYNCHRONIZING CABLES OF THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE - THE HINGE ACCESS PANELS OF THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES - THE PYLON PROFILES, AND - THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE.
CAUTION: IF YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES AFTER YOU EXTENDED THE TRANSLATING SLEEVES, MAKE SURE THAT: - THE SLATS ARE RETRACTED, AND - YOU REMOVE THE PROFILES AND THE HINGE ACCESS PANELS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Move the lock levers (65) on the left and the right locking actuators (64) aft to the unlocked position and install the IAE1N20049 PIN - LOCKOUT ACTUATOR, (67) to hold the lock levers in the unlocked position.
Subtask 78-32-00-010-069-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
E. Remove the pylon access panel
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
413AL
   (2) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
423AL
Subtask 78-32-00-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F. Put the non-return valve in the by-pass position
   (1) Remove the lockwire that safeties the lever (71) in the normal position.
   (2) Move the lever (71) of the non-return valve (70) to the by-pass position.
Subtask 78-32-00-010-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
G. Make sure it is safe to extend the translating sleeves.
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser halves are closed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
451AL 452AR
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
461AL 462AR
   (2) Remove the applicable profiles and hinge access panels: (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-01-000-010) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-02-000-010) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-03-000-010) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-04-000-010)
NOTE: This step is only necessary if the thrust reverser halves will be opened after the translating sleeves have been extended.
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-32-00-010-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS IN THE MANUAL DRIVE SOCKETS TO MOVE THE THRUST REVERSER TRANSLATING SLEEVE. TOO MUCH TORQUE COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE MECHANISM. THE MAXIMUM TORQUE PERMITTED DURING EXTENSION IS 275 LBF IN. (3,11 MDAN).
A. Extend the translating sleeve
F Thrust Reverser Locking Actuator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: You may need to turn and align the manual drive rods (protruding square shafts) before you can push the square drive into the manual drive. The socket end of your 0.375 in. square drive is a convenient tool to use for this purpose.
NOTE: The manual drive rods have a strong return spring to ensure the manual drives disengage after you use them. You must continue to push the manual drive rods in to maintain engagement while you turn the square drives.
   (1) Put a 0.375 in. square drive in to the manual drive socket (66) of the left and right thrust reverser halves.
   (2) Push the square drive in to engage the internal actuator drives. For the left reverser half, turn the square drive clockwise. For the right thrust reverser half, turn the square drive counterclockwise.
NOTE: Use the manual drives on the left and right thrust reverser halves at the same time, to extend (deploy) the translating sleeves.
   (3) Remove the square drives.
