General Visual Inspection of the Thrust Reverser Fire Seals and Vapor Barrier Seals

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-32-00-210-076-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. General Visual Inspection of the Thrust Reverser Fire Seals and Vapor Barrier Seals
   (1) Do not discard a part until you are sure there are no repairs available. If you reject a part and no repair is available, contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) for disposition.
   (2) Visually examine the fire seals of the thrust reverser.
     (a) Examine the fire seals of the left and right thrust reverser.
       1 Look for missing segments, cracks, gouges and holes.
       2 If you find damage, replace the fire seals (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-400-802) or contact UTAS for disposition.
     (b) Examine the screws, pins, washers and nuts that attach the fire seals to the inner fixed structure of the left and right thrust reverser.
       1 Look for corrosion, wear, cracks, gouges and missing hardware.
       2 If you find damage, replace the hardware (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-400-802).
     (c) Examine the surfaces adjacent to the fire seals.
       1 Look for holes and gaps between the fire seals and the adjacent surfaces.
       2 If you find holes or gaps, fill them with sealant (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-400-802).
     (d) Examine the surfaces adjacent to the fire seals.
       1 Look for holes and gaps in the sealant between the fire seals and the adjacent surfaces.
       2 If you find holes or gaps, replace the sealant as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-400-802).
     (e) Examine the ACOC seal.
       1 Make sure there are chamfers on the aft side of the seal.
       2 If the chamfers are not on the aft side, remove the ACOC seal and install it with the chamfers on the aft side (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-802).
   (3) Visually examine the vapor barrier seals of the thrust reverser.
     (a) Examine the vapor barrier seals of the left and right thrust reverser.
       1 Look for missing segments, cracks, gouges and holes.
       2 If you find damage, replace the vapor barrier seals (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-400-802) or contact UTAS for disposition.
     (b) Examine the nuts that attach the vapor barrier seals to the inner fixed structure of the left and right thrust reverser.
       1 Look for corrosion, wear, cracks, gouges and missing hardware.
       2 If you find damage, replace the hardware (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-42-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-72-400-802).
5. Close-up

   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802):
