Adjustment of the Thrust Reverser
There are three procedures in this adjustment procedure that give information about the adjustment of the thrust reverser:
For the general summary of procedures, refer to Figure 78-30-00-991-95500.
1. Check procedure:
Use the check procedure to examine the adjustment conditions and make sure that they are in tolerance. Also, the check procedure gives instructions on what to do if you find out-of-tolerance conditions. Do the check procedure first if you have one or more of the conditions that follow:
- Installation of the left and right thrust reverser doors that were adjusted together before you installed them.
- Replacement of only the left or right thrust reverser door.
- Replacement of the engine.
- You did more than one troubleshooting procedure.
- You find out-of-tolerance values at one or more of the following locations:
The general description of the check procedure is as follows. Refer to Para. 4.A.
1 Do a check of the IFS bumpers for interference.
2 Bed-in the seals and V-blade.
3 Do a check of the latch handle closing force.
4 Do a check of the latch striker pads for contact.
5 Do a check of the V-blade gap.
6 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
7 Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps.
8 Do a check of the Nacelle Anti-Icing (NAI) bumper gaps.
2. Full adjustment procedure:
Use the full adjustment procedure to fully adjust the left and right thrust reverser doors. Do the full adjustment procedure if you have one or more of the following conditions:
The general description of the check procedure is as follows. Refer to Para. 4.B.
1 Remove the latch striker pads and shims.
2 Do a check of the IFS bumpers for interference.
3 Bed-in the seals and V-blade.
4 Set the splitline gaps and adjust the latches.
5 Adjust the IFS bumper gaps.
6 Adjust the NAI bumpers.
3. Troubleshooting procedures:
Use the troubleshooting procedures to correct out-of-tolerance conditions. The troubleshooting procedures are applicable only to the thrust reverser doors that were adjusted together before.
Do each of the troubleshooting procedures independently. If you do more than one troubleshooting procedure, do the full check procedure after you complete all the troubleshooting procedures. If you complete the full check procedure and find more out-of-tolerance conditions, it is permitted to do the troubleshooting procedures for the applicable condition.
The conditions for the troubleshooting procedures are as follows. Refer to Para. 4.C.

Adjustment of the Thrust Reverser

1. Reason for the JobThere are three procedures in this adjustment procedure that give information about the adjustment of the thrust reverser:
- Check procedure,
- Full adjustment procedure,
- Troubleshooting procedure.
For the general summary of procedures, refer to Figure 78-30-00-991-95500.
1. Check procedure:
Use the check procedure to examine the adjustment conditions and make sure that they are in tolerance. Also, the check procedure gives instructions on what to do if you find out-of-tolerance conditions. Do the check procedure first if you have one or more of the conditions that follow:
- Installation of the left and right thrust reverser doors that were adjusted together before you installed them.
- Replacement of only the left or right thrust reverser door.
- Replacement of the engine.
- You did more than one troubleshooting procedure.
- You find out-of-tolerance values at one or more of the following locations:
- Aft core cowl splitline,
- Six o'clock splitline,
- V-blade,
- Gap at rivet 7 (R7) lower bifurcation Leading Edge (LE),
- Inner Fixed Structure (IFS) upper bifurcation LE locations.
The general description of the check procedure is as follows. Refer to Para. 4.A.
1 Do a check of the IFS bumpers for interference.
2 Bed-in the seals and V-blade.
3 Do a check of the latch handle closing force.
4 Do a check of the latch striker pads for contact.
5 Do a check of the V-blade gap.
6 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
7 Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps.
8 Do a check of the Nacelle Anti-Icing (NAI) bumper gaps.
2. Full adjustment procedure:
Use the full adjustment procedure to fully adjust the left and right thrust reverser doors. Do the full adjustment procedure if you have one or more of the following conditions:
- Installation of the left or right thrust reverser door that were not adjusted together before you installed them.
- If told to by the check procedure or troubleshooting procedures.
The general description of the check procedure is as follows. Refer to Para. 4.B.
1 Remove the latch striker pads and shims.
2 Do a check of the IFS bumpers for interference.
3 Bed-in the seals and V-blade.
4 Set the splitline gaps and adjust the latches.
5 Adjust the IFS bumper gaps.
6 Adjust the NAI bumpers.
3. Troubleshooting procedures:
Use the troubleshooting procedures to correct out-of-tolerance conditions. The troubleshooting procedures are applicable only to the thrust reverser doors that were adjusted together before.
Do each of the troubleshooting procedures independently. If you do more than one troubleshooting procedure, do the full check procedure after you complete all the troubleshooting procedures. If you complete the full check procedure and find more out-of-tolerance conditions, it is permitted to do the troubleshooting procedures for the applicable condition.
NOTE: If you find many out-of-tolerance conditions when you do the check procedure, it can be better to do the full adjustment procedure.
The conditions for the troubleshooting procedures are as follows. Refer to Para. 4.C.
- Troubleshooting procedure for latches:
- No contact at the L1 lower striker pads.
- No contact at the L2 striker pads.
- No contact at the L3 striker pads.
- No contact at the L4 striker pads.
- L4 latch handle closing force is too high.
- No contact at the L5 striker pads.
- L5 latch handle closing force is too high.
- Troubleshooting procedure for the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
- Troubleshooting procedure for IFS bumper gap.

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
4. ProcedureWARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-30-00-710-077-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Check Procedure:
(1) Make sure that the thrust reverser doors are open. Refer to Para. 4.D.
(2) Remove the NAI bumpers and shims from the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
(3) Do a check of the IFS bumpers for interference. Refer to Step 4.B.(1)(d) with the changes as follows:
(a) When you open and close the thrust reverser doors for this check, refer to Para. 4.D. and engage all the latches.
1 Open the latches in the sequence that follows:
(c) Make sure that there is no interference between the No. 1 lower bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
(d) Make sure that there is no interference between the BLS receiver cone and the BLS latch pin.
(4) Bed-in the thrust reverser seals and V-blade. Refer to Step 4.B.(1)(e).
(5) Do a check of the latch closing force and the gaps between the related striker pads.
(a) Make sure that you close all the latches.
(b) Make sure that the closing force of the latches are correct and the applicable striker pads touch. Refer to Step 4.B.(2)(h) with the changes as shown:
1 When you open and close the thrust reverser doors for this check, refer to Para. 4.D. and engage all the latches.
2 Open the latches in the sequence that follows:
(6) Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove.
(a) Make sure that the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove is correct. Refer to Step 4.B.(2)(b)1_a_.
(b) If the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove is not correct, do the troubleshooting procedure for the V-blade gap. Refer to Step 4.C.(3).
(7) Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
(a) (b) If the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE is not correct, do the full adjustment procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B.
1 You can apply the solution cleaning (Material No.PU11-001) or leak detection compound (Material No.PU1-0087) , to the intermediate case seal area while you do the check for the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
(8) Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps.
(a) When you open and close the thrust reverser doors for this check, refer to Para. 4.D. and engage all the latches.
1 Open the latches in the sequence that follows:
(c) Measure and record the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.B.(3)(b) with the changes as shown in Step 4.A.(8)(a).
(d) Measure and record the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.B.(3)(c) with the changes as shown in Step 4.A.(8)(a).
(e) Do a check of the No. 1 upper bumper gap.
1 a Find the gaps for the No. 1 upper bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors one at a time.
2 Make sure that the No.1 upper bumper gaps on the left and right thrust reverser doors are in tolerance of the values you find in Step 4.A.(8)(e)1_.
(f) Do a check of the No. 2 upper bumper gaps.
1 Make sure that the gaps you measured for the No. 2 upper bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors in Step 4.A.(8)(d) are between 0.018 in. (0.46 mm) and 0.123 in. (3.12 mm).
a Do the check for the No. 2 upper bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors one at a time.
(g) Do a check of the No. 1 lower bumper and BLS gaps.
1 2 Make sure that the No. 1 lower bumper gap is in tolerance of the gap you find in Step 4.A.(8)(g)1_.
3 4 Make sure that the BLS gap is in tolerance of the gap you find in Step 4.A.(8)(g)3_.
(h) If the gaps for the No. 1 upper bumper, No. 2 upper bumper, No. 1 lower bumper, or the BLS is out of tolerance, adjust them. Refer to Step 4.B.(3).
(9) Do a check of the NAI bumper gap as follows:
(a) Make sure that the NAI bumpers and shims are removed. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
(b) Do a check of the NAI bumpers and if necessary, adjust them. Refer to Step 4.B.(4).
(c) Install the NAI bumpers and shims. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
Subtask 78-30-00-820-073-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser doors are open. Refer to Para. 4.D.
(2) Remove the NAI bumpers and shims from the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
(3) Do a check of the IFS bumpers for interference. Refer to Step 4.B.(1)(d) with the changes as follows:
(a) When you open and close the thrust reverser doors for this check, refer to Para. 4.D. and engage all the latches.
1 Open the latches in the sequence that follows:
- L5 latch,
- L4 latch,
- L3 latch,
- Bifurcation Latch System (BLS) latch,
- L2 latch,
- L1B latch,
- L1A latch.
- L1A latch,
- L1B latch,
- L2 latch,
- BLS latch,

- L5 latch.
(c) Make sure that there is no interference between the No. 1 lower bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
(d) Make sure that there is no interference between the BLS receiver cone and the BLS latch pin.
(4) Bed-in the thrust reverser seals and V-blade. Refer to Step 4.B.(1)(e).
(5) Do a check of the latch closing force and the gaps between the related striker pads.
(a) Make sure that you close all the latches.
(b) Make sure that the closing force of the latches are correct and the applicable striker pads touch. Refer to Step 4.B.(2)(h) with the changes as shown:
1 When you open and close the thrust reverser doors for this check, refer to Para. 4.D. and engage all the latches.
2 Open the latches in the sequence that follows:
- L5 latch,
- L4 latch,

(6) Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove.
(a) Make sure that the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove is correct. Refer to Step 4.B.(2)(b)1_a_.
(b) If the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove is not correct, do the troubleshooting procedure for the V-blade gap. Refer to Step 4.C.(3).
(7) Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
(a) (b) If the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE is not correct, do the full adjustment procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B.
1 You can apply the solution cleaning (Material No.PU11-001) or leak detection compound (Material No.PU1-0087) , to the intermediate case seal area while you do the check for the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
(8) Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps.
(a) When you open and close the thrust reverser doors for this check, refer to Para. 4.D. and engage all the latches.

- L5 latch,
- L4 latch,
- L3 latch,
- BLS latch,
- L2 latch,
- L1B latch,
- L1A latch.
- L1A latch,
- L1B latch,
- L2 latch,
- BLS latch,
- L3 latch,
- L4 latch,
- L5 latch.
(c) Measure and record the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.B.(3)(b) with the changes as shown in Step 4.A.(8)(a).
(d) Measure and record the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.B.(3)(c) with the changes as shown in Step 4.A.(8)(a).
(e) Do a check of the No. 1 upper bumper gap.
1 a Find the gaps for the No. 1 upper bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors one at a time.
2 Make sure that the No.1 upper bumper gaps on the left and right thrust reverser doors are in tolerance of the values you find in Step 4.A.(8)(e)1_.
(f) Do a check of the No. 2 upper bumper gaps.
1 Make sure that the gaps you measured for the No. 2 upper bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors in Step 4.A.(8)(d) are between 0.018 in. (0.46 mm) and 0.123 in. (3.12 mm).
a Do the check for the No. 2 upper bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors one at a time.
(g) Do a check of the No. 1 lower bumper and BLS gaps.
1 2 Make sure that the No. 1 lower bumper gap is in tolerance of the gap you find in Step 4.A.(8)(g)1_.
3 4 Make sure that the BLS gap is in tolerance of the gap you find in Step 4.A.(8)(g)3_.
(h) If the gaps for the No. 1 upper bumper, No. 2 upper bumper, No. 1 lower bumper, or the BLS is out of tolerance, adjust them. Refer to Step 4.B.(3).
(9) Do a check of the NAI bumper gap as follows:
(a) Make sure that the NAI bumpers and shims are removed. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
(b) Do a check of the NAI bumpers and if necessary, adjust them. Refer to Step 4.B.(4).
(c) Install the NAI bumpers and shims. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
B. Full Adjustment Procedure
Use the full adjustment procedure to fully adjust the left and right thrust reverser doors. Do the full adjustment procedure if you have one or more of the following conditions:
(a) Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
(b) Remove the striker pads, IFS bumper pads, NAI bumpers, shims and washers from the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.J.
(c) Retract the BLS bumper and loosen the latches as follows:
1 2 (d) Do a check of the IFS bumpers for interference as follows:
2 Apply the modelling clay (Material No.PU1-0009) on the No. 1 lower bumper locations on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
3 4 Close the thrust reverser doors and engage the latches in the order that follows. Refer to Para. 4.D.
a Engage and close the L1B latch, then the L4 latch.
5 Open the L4 latch, then the L1B latch and open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
6 Make sure that the thickness of the clay on the No. 1 upper bumper and No. 2 upper bumper locations are a minimum of 0.040 in. (1.016 mm).
a Make sure that there is no interference between the upper bumpers and the pylon bumper pads.
b If the thickness is less than 0.040 in. (1.016 mm), adjust the number of washers on the applicable bumper. Refer to Step 4.J.(1).
7 Make sure that the thickness of the clay on the No. 1 lower bumper locations is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.175 mm).
a Make sure that there is no interference between the No. 1 lower bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
b If the thickness is less than 0.125 in. (3.175 mm), adjust the number of washers on the applicable bumper. Refer to 4.J.(1).
8 Make sure that the thickness of the clay on the BLS receiver cone is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.175 mm).
a b If the thickness is less than 0.125 in. (3.175 mm), adjust the star wheel on the BLS pin.
9 Remove the clay from the No. 1 upper bumpers, No. 2 upper bumpers, No. 1 lower bumpers and BLS receiver cone.
1 Close the thrust reverser doors, but do not engage the closure assist assembly or the latches. Refer to Para. 4.D.
2 Open the thrust reverser doors until the V-blade is fully disengaged. Refer to Para. 4.D.
3 Do Step 4.B.(1)(e)1_ and Step 4.B.(1)(e)2_ again five more times.
(2) Set the splitline gaps and adjust the latches.
(a) Set the six o'clock splitline gap as follows:
a Make sure that the force necessary to close the L1B latch is not more than 80 lbf (35.59 daN).
b If you cannot close the L1B latch with a force of 80 lbf (35.59 daN) or less, close the L1A and L1B latches together.

Thrust Reverser Adjustment - Removal and Installation of IFS Bumper Pads, NAI Bumpers, and Striker Pads ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
3 Close the L4 latch.
a Make sure that the force necessary to close the L4 latch is not more than 50 lbf (22.24 daN).
b If you cannot close the L4 latch with a force of 50 lbf (22.24 daN) or less, close the L2 and L3 latches before you close the L4 latch.
c Open the L2 and L3 latches when the L4 latch is closed.

Thrust Reverser Adjustment - Removal and Installation of IFS Bumper Pads, NAI Bumpers, and Striker Pads ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
(b) Do a check and adjust the V-blade and R7 lower bifurcation LE gaps.
a Measure the gap between the V-blade and the engine V-groove with the GAGE - FEELER or equivalent.
a Make sure that the L1B and L4 latches are closed.
Thrust Reverser Adjustment - 6 O'clock and Core Cowl Splitline Gaps ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
Interface Gaps ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
d Measure the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
1 Apply the modelling clay (Material No.PU1-0009) to where you will install the striker pads at the forward L1 and aft L1 striker pad locations.
a Apply the clay between the fastener holes.
3 Close the thrust reverser. Refer to Para. 4.D. with the changes as follows:
a Close the latches in the sequence that follows:
a Open the latches in the sequence that follows:
a Use the same number of shims you installed on the aft L1 striker pad location for the upper L1 striker pad location. Refer to Para. 4.J.
10 Install the striker pads and shims on the left and right thrust reverser doors at the L4 striker pad locations. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
11 Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D. with the changes as follows:
a Close the latches in the sequence that follows:
a Make sure that you adjust each latch one at a time while the other latches are closed.
13 Adjust the star wheel on the L4 latch until the force necessary to close the latch is between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN).
14 Make sure that there is no gap between the forward L1 and aft L1 striker pads (22) on the left and right thrust reverser doors. If there is a gap between the forward L1 and aft L1 striker pads (22) on the left and right thrust reverser doors, do the following:
a Adjust the latch closing force of the L1A and L1B latches to a maximum of 36 lbf (16.01 daN) until there is no gap.

a b Adjust the latch closing force of the L4 latch to a maximum of 36 lbf (16.01 daN) until the gap is 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) or less.
(d) Do a check and adjust the V-blade and R7 lower bifurcation LE gaps.
1 Make sure that the V-blade and R7 lower bifurcation LE gaps are in tolerance. Refer to Step 4.B.(2)(b)1_.
2 If the V-blade or R7 lower bifurcation LE gaps are out of tolerance, adjust the six o'clock splitline gap until the gaps are in tolerance. Refer to Para. 4.E. Then, go back to Step 4.B.(2)(c)11_.
(e) Adjust the aft core cowl six o'clock splitline gap as follows:

d Adjust the closing force of the BLS latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) and close the BLS latch.
e When you complete the adjustment of the BLS gap, install the BLS thermal blanket (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-71-400-802).

Subtask 78-30-00-280-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL Use the full adjustment procedure to fully adjust the left and right thrust reverser doors. Do the full adjustment procedure if you have one or more of the following conditions:
- Installation of the left or right thrust reverser door that are not adjusted together before.
- If told to by the check procedure or troubleshooting procedures.
(a) Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
(b) Remove the striker pads, IFS bumper pads, NAI bumpers, shims and washers from the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.J.
(c) Retract the BLS bumper and loosen the latches as follows:

3 4 Close the thrust reverser doors and engage the latches in the order that follows. Refer to Para. 4.D.
a Engage and close the L1B latch, then the L4 latch.
5 Open the L4 latch, then the L1B latch and open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
6 Make sure that the thickness of the clay on the No. 1 upper bumper and No. 2 upper bumper locations are a minimum of 0.040 in. (1.016 mm).
a Make sure that there is no interference between the upper bumpers and the pylon bumper pads.
b If the thickness is less than 0.040 in. (1.016 mm), adjust the number of washers on the applicable bumper. Refer to Step 4.J.(1).
7 Make sure that the thickness of the clay on the No. 1 lower bumper locations is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.175 mm).
a Make sure that there is no interference between the No. 1 lower bumpers on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
b If the thickness is less than 0.125 in. (3.175 mm), adjust the number of washers on the applicable bumper. Refer to 4.J.(1).
8 Make sure that the thickness of the clay on the BLS receiver cone is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.175 mm).
a b If the thickness is less than 0.125 in. (3.175 mm), adjust the star wheel on the BLS pin.
9 Remove the clay from the No. 1 upper bumpers, No. 2 upper bumpers, No. 1 lower bumpers and BLS receiver cone.
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR, MAKE SURE THAT THE ALIGNMENT FITTING AND V-BLADE CORRECTLY ENGAGE INTO THE FAN CASE V-GROOVE. IF THEY DO NOT CORRECTLY ENGAGE INTO THE FAN CASE V-GROOVE, DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE SHEAR PINS AT THE LATCH LOCATIONS CORRECTLY ENGAGE IN THE PIN RECEPTACLES AT THE KEEPER LOCATIONS. IF THEY DO NOT CORRECTLY ENGAGE, DAMAGE TO THE SHEAR PINS CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE THRUST REVERSER DOORS AND THE PYLON, ENGINE, OR OTHER COMPONENTS WHEN YOU CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOORS. IF YOU CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER DOORS AND THERE IS INTERFERENCE, DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS CAN OCCUR.
(e) Bed-in the thrust reverser seals and V-blade as follows: 1 Close the thrust reverser doors, but do not engage the closure assist assembly or the latches. Refer to Para. 4.D.
2 Open the thrust reverser doors until the V-blade is fully disengaged. Refer to Para. 4.D.
3 Do Step 4.B.(1)(e)1_ and Step 4.B.(1)(e)2_ again five more times.
(2) Set the splitline gaps and adjust the latches.

- Do this again until the V-blade gap is within tolerance.
a Make sure that the L1B and L4 latches are closed.
- Make sure that all the remaining latches are open.

3 Close the thrust reverser. Refer to Para. 4.D. with the changes as follows:

7 Divide the shims you collected in Step 4.B.(2)(c)6_ equally between the left and right thrust reverser doors. NOTE: If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
8 Install the striker pads and shims on the left and right thrust reverser doors at the forward L1 and aft L1 striker pad locations. Refer to Step 4.J.(2). CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE SAME NUMBER OF SHIMS AT THE UPPER L1 STRIKER PAD LOCATION AS AT THE AFT L1 STRIKER PAD LOCATION. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE INCORRECTLY DURING FLIGHT.
9 Install the striker pads and shims on the left and right thrust reverser doors at the upper L1 striker pad location. a Use the same number of shims you installed on the aft L1 striker pad location for the upper L1 striker pad location. Refer to Para. 4.J.
10 Install the striker pads and shims on the left and right thrust reverser doors at the L4 striker pad locations. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
11 Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D. with the changes as follows:
a Close the latches in the sequence that follows:
- L1A latch,
- L1B latch,
- L4 latch,
- L5 latch.
a Make sure that you adjust each latch one at a time while the other latches are closed.
13 Adjust the star wheel on the L4 latch until the force necessary to close the latch is between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN).

a Adjust the latch closing force of the L1A and L1B latches to a maximum of 36 lbf (16.01 daN) until there is no gap.
b If there is a gap after you adjust the latch closing force to 36 lbf (16.01 daN), add a shim to the applicable striker pad location. Then, go back to Step 4.B.(2)(c)11_.
15 Make sure that there is no gap between the L4 striker pads (6) on the left and right thrust reverser doors. If there is a gap of more than 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) between the L4 striker pads (6) on the left and right thrust reverser doors, do the following:
a b Adjust the latch closing force of the L4 latch to a maximum of 36 lbf (16.01 daN) until the gap is 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) or less.

13 Divide the shims you collected in Step 4.B.(2)(f)12_ equally between the left and right thrust reverser doors. NOTE: If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
14 Install the striker pads and shims on the left and right thrust reverser doors at the L5 striker pad locations. Refer to Step 4.J.(2). 15 Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D. with the changes as follows:

1 If the V-blade gap or gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE are out of tolerance, go back to Step 4.B.(2)(b)1_ and adjust the applicable gap.
a Make sure that you keep the six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance while you adjust the V-blade gap or gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
(h) Do a check of the latch closing force and the gaps between the related striker pads.

d Install the IFS bumper pads and washers on the left and right thrust reverser doors at the No. 1 lower bumper locations. Refer to Step 4.J.(1). 4 Set the BLS gap.
a b If necessary, remove the BLS thermal blanket from the right thrust reverser door to get access to the BLS latch pin (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-71-000-802).
c Adjust the star wheel on the BLS latch pin to increase or decrease the gap between the BLS latch pin and BLS receiver until the gap agrees with the clearance you found in Step 4.B.(3)(d)4_a_. Use the WRENCH - HEXAGONAL 0.109 in. (2.77 mm).
d Adjust the closing force of the BLS latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) and close the BLS latch.
e When you complete the adjustment of the BLS gap, install the BLS thermal blanket (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-71-400-802).
(4) Adjust the NAI bumper.

(k) Subtract 0.912 in. (23.16 mm) from the thickness on the right NAI fitting assembly location that you measured in Step 4.B.(4)(g).
NOTE: When the NAI bumper (12) is compressed, its nominal thickness is 0.912 in. (23.16 mm).
(l) Collect the number of shims (11) equal to the thickness that you calculated in Step 4.B.(4)(k) plus or minus 0.02 in. (0.51 mm). (m) Install the right bumper (12) and shims (11) on the right NAI fitting assembly. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
(5) Tighten the fasteners on the left and right thrust reverser doors at the following locations. Refer to Step 4.J.(3).
- Forward and aft L1 striker pad locations,
- Upper L1 striker pad locations,
- L4 striker pad locations,
- L2 striker pad locations,
- L3 striker pad locations,
- L5 striker pad locations,
- No. 1 upper bumper, No. 2 upper bumper and No. 1 lower bumper locations,
- NAI bumper locations.
C. Troubleshooting Procedures
(1) Use this troubleshooting procedure to correct out-of-tolerance conditions on thrust reverser doors.
(a) If you find an out of tolerance condition that is not given in this troubleshooting procedure, do the full rigging procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B.
(b) If you do more than one troubleshooting procedure, do the full check procedure after you complete all the troubleshooting procedures. Refer to Para. 4.A.
(c) If you complete the full check procedure and find more out-of-tolerance conditions, you must do Para. 4.C. again for the out-of-tolerance conditions or the full adjustment procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B for the full adjustment procedure.
(2) Troubleshooting procedure for the latches.
(a) If there is a gap at the L1 lower striker pads, do as follows:
1 Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN) one at a time.
2 3 Measure the gap between the L1 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
a Measure the aft and the forward locations.
4 Adjust the thickness of the shims equal to the gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(a)3_. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
a Do the adjustment for the aft and forward L1 striker pad locations one at a time.
b Adjust the number of shims as necessary.
c Make sure that the number of shims at the L1 upper striker pad location equals the number of shims at the aft L1 striker pad location.
d Make sure that the forward and aft L1 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors touch.
5 Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) one at a time.
6 If the thickness of shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(a)4_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
7 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(a)4_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check af the latch closing force for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).

1 Make sure that the thrust reverser doors are closed. Refer to Para. 4.D.
2 Open the L2 latch and set the closing force to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN) while the remaining latches are closed.
3 4 Open the L2 latch. Do not open the other latches.
5 Measure the gap between the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors while the l2 latch is open.
6 Adjust the number of shims necessary to get a gap to between 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.013 in. (0.330 mm) between the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
a If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
7 Set the closing force for the L2 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
8 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(b)6_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).

a Measure between the striker pad fasteners.
6 Adjust the number of shims equal to the gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(c)5_. Refer to Para. 4.J.
a If the thickness of the shims does not equal the thickness of the clay, round the number of shims down to the next full shim.
b If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
c Make sure that the L3 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors touch.
7 Set the closing force for the L3 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
8 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(c)6_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:

(e) If the necessary closing force of the L4 latch handle is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do as follows:
1 Set the closing force for the L3 latch to between 34 lbf (15.12 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
2 Do a check of the L4 latch closing force.
3 If the closing of the L4 latch handle is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do the following:
a Open the L2 latch. Do not open the other latches.
b Make sure that the gap between the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors is between 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.013 in. (0.330 mm) while the L2 latch is open.
c If the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors touch, adjust the number of shims to get a clearance to between 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.013 in. (0.330 mm) while the L2 latch is open. Refer to Para. 4.J.
d Close the L2 latch.
e Do a check of the L2 latch closing force.
5 Remove the striker pad and shims from the L4 latch keeper location on the right thrust reverser door. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
6 Adjust the L4 latch closing force to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 32 lbf (14.23 daN) while the other latches are closed.
7 8 If the six o'clock splitline gap is out of tolerance, do the full adjustment procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B.
9 Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
10 11 Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
12 Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
13 Measure the thickness of the clay at the L4 latch keeper location.
14 Adjust the number of shims and striker pad equal to the gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(e)13_. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
a If the thickness of the shims does not equal the thickness of the clay, round the number of shims up to the next full shim.
b If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
15 Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
16 Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
17 Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
18 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
19 Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(f) If there is no contact at the L5 striker pads, do as follows:
1 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN).
a Close the L5 latch.
2 3 If the closing force of the L5 latch is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the aft core cowl six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do as follows:
a Remove the striker pads and shims from the L5 striker pad locations on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
b Set the closing force for the L5 latch to 50 lbf (22.24 daN).
c Open and close the L5 latch five times to bed-in the seals.
d Install the striker pads and shims at the L5 striker pad locations on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
e Do the Step 4.C.(2)(f)1_ again.
f If the necessary closing force of the L5 latch is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the aft core cowl six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do Step 4.C.(2)(g).
a Measure the aft and forward surface of the striker pads.
b Apply the modelling clay (Material No.PU1-0009) on the forward and aft sides of the L5 striker pads.
c Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
d Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
e Measure the thickness of the clay between the L5 striker pads.
5 Install the striker pad and shims equal to the smaller gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(f)4_. Refer to Para. 4.J.
6 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
7 If the thickness of shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(f)5_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
8 If the number of shims you adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(c)6_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(g) If the necessary closing force of the L5 latch handle to get the correct aft core cowl six o'clock splitline gap is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN), do as follows:
1 Remove the striker pads and shims from the L5 striker pad locations on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
2 Measure and record the thickness of the striker pads and the number of shims.
3 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to 50 lbf (22.24 daN).
4 Slowly, close the L5 latch.
a Make sure that the left core cowl do not hit the right core cowl at the aft core cowl six o'clock splitline.
5 Open the L5 latch.
6 Do Step 4.C.(2)(g)4_ and Step 4.C.(2)(g)5_ four more times to bed-in the seals.
7 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 32 lbf (14.23 daN).
8 Close the L5 latch.
9 10 Measure the gap between the L5 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
a Measure the aft and forward surface on the striker pads.
b Apply the modelling clay (Material No.PU1-0009) on the forward and aft sides of the L5 striker pads.
c Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
d Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
e Measure the thickness of the clay between L5 striker pads.
11 Install the striker pad and shims to the smaller gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(g)10_. Refer to Para. 4.J.
12 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 34 lbf (15.12 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
13 If the thickness of shims adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(g)11_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
14 If the thickness of shims adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(g)11_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(3) Troubleshooting procedure for the V-blade gap.
(a) Remove the one shim from the L1 striker pad location, one shim from the forward striker pad location, and one shim from the upper L1 striker pad location. Refer to Para. 4.J.
1 Keep the shims to measure.
2 If you remove one shim from one L1 striker pad location, you must remove one shim each from the other two L1 striker pad locations at the same time.
(b) Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN) one at a time.
(c) (d) Measure the gap along the interface of the V-blade and the engine V-groove.
1 Make sure that the V-groove and V-blade are in contact.
2 The maximum permissible gap is 0.030 in. (0.762 mm) or less.
(e) If the V-blade gap is out of tolerance, go back to Step 4.C.(3)(a).
(f) Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) one at a time.
(g) Measure the thickness of the shims you removed in Step 4.C.(3)(a).
1 Measure the shims for one L1 striker pad location at a time.
2 Record the largest of the three thicknesses.
(h) If the largest of the three thicknesses you measured in Step 4.C.(3)(g) is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
1 Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. refer to Step 4.A.(5).
2 Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
3 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
(i) If the thickness of the shims you adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(c)6_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
1 Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
2 Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
3 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).

Subtask 78-30-00-010-109-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Use this troubleshooting procedure to correct out-of-tolerance conditions on thrust reverser doors.
(a) If you find an out of tolerance condition that is not given in this troubleshooting procedure, do the full rigging procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B.
(b) If you do more than one troubleshooting procedure, do the full check procedure after you complete all the troubleshooting procedures. Refer to Para. 4.A.
(c) If you complete the full check procedure and find more out-of-tolerance conditions, you must do Para. 4.C. again for the out-of-tolerance conditions or the full adjustment procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B for the full adjustment procedure.
(2) Troubleshooting procedure for the latches.
(a) If there is a gap at the L1 lower striker pads, do as follows:
1 Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN) one at a time.
2 3 Measure the gap between the L1 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
a Measure the aft and the forward locations.
4 Adjust the thickness of the shims equal to the gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(a)3_. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
a Do the adjustment for the aft and forward L1 striker pad locations one at a time.
b Adjust the number of shims as necessary.
c Make sure that the number of shims at the L1 upper striker pad location equals the number of shims at the aft L1 striker pad location.
d Make sure that the forward and aft L1 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors touch.
5 Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) one at a time.
6 If the thickness of shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(a)4_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
7 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(a)4_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check af the latch closing force for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(b) If there is a gap between the L2 striker pads, do as follows:
1 Make sure that the thrust reverser doors are closed. Refer to Para. 4.D.
2 Open the L2 latch and set the closing force to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN) while the remaining latches are closed.
3 4 Open the L2 latch. Do not open the other latches.
5 Measure the gap between the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors while the l2 latch is open.
NOTE: A gap between 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.013 in. (0.330 mm) is permitted between the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors while the L2 latch is open.
a Measure between the striker pad fasteners. 6 Adjust the number of shims necessary to get a gap to between 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.013 in. (0.330 mm) between the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
a If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
7 Set the closing force for the L2 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
8 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(b)6_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
9 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(b)6_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(c) If there is a gap between the L3 striker pads, do as follows:
1 Make sure that the thrust reverser doors are closed. Refer to Para. 4.D.
2 Open the L3 latch and set the closing force to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN) while the remaining latches are closed.
3 4 Open the L3 latch. Do not open the other latches.
5 Measure the gap between the L3 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
a Measure between the striker pad fasteners.
6 Adjust the number of shims equal to the gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(c)5_. Refer to Para. 4.J.
a If the thickness of the shims does not equal the thickness of the clay, round the number of shims down to the next full shim.
b If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
c Make sure that the L3 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors touch.
7 Set the closing force for the L3 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
8 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(c)6_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
9 If the thickness of the shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(c)6_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(d) If there is a gap between the L4 striker pads, do as follows:
1 Make sure that the thrust reverser doors are closed. Refer to Para. 4.D.
2 Open the L4 latch and set the closing force to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN).
a Close the L4 latch.
3 4 Measure the gap between the L4 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors while the L4 latch is closed.
a 5 Open the L4 latch. Do not open the other latches.
6 Adjust the number of shims equal to the gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(d)4_. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
a If the thickness of the shims does not equal the thickness of the clay, round the number of shims up to the next full shim.
b If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
c Make sure that the L4 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors touch.
d 7 Set the closing force for the L4 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
8 If the thickness of shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(d)6_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
9 If the thickness of shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(d)6_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(e) If the necessary closing force of the L4 latch handle is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do as follows:
1 Set the closing force for the L3 latch to between 34 lbf (15.12 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
2 Do a check of the L4 latch closing force.
3 If the closing of the L4 latch handle is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do the following:
a Open the L2 latch. Do not open the other latches.
b Make sure that the gap between the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors is between 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.013 in. (0.330 mm) while the L2 latch is open.
c If the L2 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors touch, adjust the number of shims to get a clearance to between 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.013 in. (0.330 mm) while the L2 latch is open. Refer to Para. 4.J.
d Close the L2 latch.
e Do a check of the L2 latch closing force.
- Make sure that the L2 striker pads touch when the L2 latch is closed. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
5 Remove the striker pad and shims from the L4 latch keeper location on the right thrust reverser door. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
6 Adjust the L4 latch closing force to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 32 lbf (14.23 daN) while the other latches are closed.
7 8 If the six o'clock splitline gap is out of tolerance, do the full adjustment procedure. Refer to Para. 4.B.
9 Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
10 11 Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
12 Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
13 Measure the thickness of the clay at the L4 latch keeper location.
14 Adjust the number of shims and striker pad equal to the gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(e)13_. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
a If the thickness of the shims does not equal the thickness of the clay, round the number of shims up to the next full shim.
b If there is an odd number of shims, put the odd shim on the left thrust reverser door.
15 Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
16 Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
17 Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
18 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
19 Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(f) If there is no contact at the L5 striker pads, do as follows:
1 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN).
a Close the L5 latch.
2 3 If the closing force of the L5 latch is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the aft core cowl six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do as follows:
a Remove the striker pads and shims from the L5 striker pad locations on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
b Set the closing force for the L5 latch to 50 lbf (22.24 daN).
c Open and close the L5 latch five times to bed-in the seals.
d Install the striker pads and shims at the L5 striker pad locations on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
e Do the Step 4.C.(2)(f)1_ again.
f If the necessary closing force of the L5 latch is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN) to get the aft core cowl six o'clock splitline gap in tolerance, do Step 4.C.(2)(g).
- If the necessary closing force is 30 lbf (13.34 daN) or less, continue to Step 4.C.(2)(f)4_.
a Measure the aft and forward surface of the striker pads.
b Apply the modelling clay (Material No.PU1-0009) on the forward and aft sides of the L5 striker pads.
c Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
d Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
e Measure the thickness of the clay between the L5 striker pads.
5 Install the striker pad and shims equal to the smaller gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(f)4_. Refer to Para. 4.J.
6 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
7 If the thickness of shims you added in Step 4.C.(2)(f)5_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
8 If the number of shims you adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(c)6_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(g) If the necessary closing force of the L5 latch handle to get the correct aft core cowl six o'clock splitline gap is more than 30 lbf (13.34 daN), do as follows:
1 Remove the striker pads and shims from the L5 striker pad locations on the left and right thrust reverser doors. Refer to Step 4.J.(2).
2 Measure and record the thickness of the striker pads and the number of shims.
3 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to 50 lbf (22.24 daN).
4 Slowly, close the L5 latch.
a Make sure that the left core cowl do not hit the right core cowl at the aft core cowl six o'clock splitline.
5 Open the L5 latch.
6 Do Step 4.C.(2)(g)4_ and Step 4.C.(2)(g)5_ four more times to bed-in the seals.
7 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 32 lbf (14.23 daN).
8 Close the L5 latch.
9 10 Measure the gap between the L5 striker pads on the left and right thrust reverser doors.
a Measure the aft and forward surface on the striker pads.
b Apply the modelling clay (Material No.PU1-0009) on the forward and aft sides of the L5 striker pads.
c Close the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
d Open the thrust reverser doors. Refer to Para. 4.D.
e Measure the thickness of the clay between L5 striker pads.
11 Install the striker pad and shims to the smaller gap you measured in Step 4.C.(2)(g)10_. Refer to Para. 4.J.
12 Set the closing force for the L5 latch to between 34 lbf (15.12 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
13 If the thickness of shims adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(g)11_ is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
14 If the thickness of shims adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(g)11_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
a Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
b Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
c Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
d Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(3) Troubleshooting procedure for the V-blade gap.
(a) Remove the one shim from the L1 striker pad location, one shim from the forward striker pad location, and one shim from the upper L1 striker pad location. Refer to Para. 4.J.
1 Keep the shims to measure.
2 If you remove one shim from one L1 striker pad location, you must remove one shim each from the other two L1 striker pad locations at the same time.
(b) Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 26 lbf (11.57 daN) and 30 lbf (13.34 daN) one at a time.
(c) (d) Measure the gap along the interface of the V-blade and the engine V-groove.
1 Make sure that the V-groove and V-blade are in contact.
2 The maximum permissible gap is 0.030 in. (0.762 mm) or less.
(e) If the V-blade gap is out of tolerance, go back to Step 4.C.(3)(a).
(f) Set the closing force for the L1A and L1B latches to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) one at a time.
(g) Measure the thickness of the shims you removed in Step 4.C.(3)(a).
1 Measure the shims for one L1 striker pad location at a time.
2 Record the largest of the three thicknesses.
(h) If the largest of the three thicknesses you measured in Step 4.C.(3)(g) is 0.026 in. (0.66 mm) or less, do the following:
1 Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. refer to Step 4.A.(5).
2 Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
3 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
(i) If the thickness of the shims you adjusted in Step 4.C.(2)(c)6_ is 0.027 in. (0.69 mm) or more, do the following:
1 Do a check of the latch closing forces for all the latches and the gaps between the related striker pads. Refer to Step 4.A.(5).
2 Do a check of the gap between the V-blade and engine V-groove. Refer to Step 4.A.(6).
3 Do a check of the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE. Refer to Step 4.A.(7).
4 Do a check of the IFS bumper gaps. Refer to Step 4.A.(8).
(4) Troubleshooting procedure for the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE.
(a) If the gap at the R7 lower bifurcation LE is out of tolerance, do the full adjustment procedure. Refer to Step 4.B.
(5) Troubleshooting procedure for the IFS bumper gaps.
(a) If the IFS bumper gaps are out of tolerance, adjust them. Refer to Step 4.B.(3).
D. Opening and Closing of the Thrust Reverser Doors
Perform this paragraph to open or close the thrust reverser doors when told to in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(1) When you open or close the thrust reverser doors, refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802).
(a) Make sure that you obey the instructions unless told to differently in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(2) Open or close the latches as told to in the applicable steps in the check procedures, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(3) Always use the closure assist assembly when you latch and unlatch the thrust reverser doors.
Subtask 78-30-00-720-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL Perform this paragraph to open or close the thrust reverser doors when told to in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(1) When you open or close the thrust reverser doors, refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802).
(a) Make sure that you obey the instructions unless told to differently in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(2) Open or close the latches as told to in the applicable steps in the check procedures, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(3) Always use the closure assist assembly when you latch and unlatch the thrust reverser doors.
E. Six O'clock Splitline Gap Adjustment
Perform this paragraph to adjust the six o’clock splitline gap as specified in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(2) Make sure that the six o'clock splitline gap is 0.040 in. (1.02 mm) or larger.
(3) After you adjust the L1B and L4 six o'clock splitline gaps, keep the L1B latch closed while you do the remaining rigging procedure.
(4) Close the L1B latch.
(5) Measure the six o'clock splitline gap between the left and right latch beam panels below the shear pin at the L1B latch position.
(6) Adjust the star wheel on the L1B latch to decrease the six o'clock splitline gap between the left and right latch beam panels in increments of 0.020 in. (0.51 mm).
(7) Close the L4 latch.
(8) Measure the six o'clock splitline gap between the left and right latch beam panels below the shear pin at the L4 latch location.
(a) Do this until the gap at the L4 location is within 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) of the gap you adjusted at the L1 location in Step 4.E.(7).
Subtask 78-30-00-800-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL Perform this paragraph to adjust the six o’clock splitline gap as specified in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
NOTE: The six o'clock splitline gap can change while you do the rigging procedure.
(1) Make sure that you keep the gap at the L4 latch location is within 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) of the gap at the L1 latch location. (2) Make sure that the six o'clock splitline gap is 0.040 in. (1.02 mm) or larger.
(3) After you adjust the L1B and L4 six o'clock splitline gaps, keep the L1B latch closed while you do the remaining rigging procedure.
(4) Close the L1B latch.
(5) Measure the six o'clock splitline gap between the left and right latch beam panels below the shear pin at the L1B latch position.
(6) Adjust the star wheel on the L1B latch to decrease the six o'clock splitline gap between the left and right latch beam panels in increments of 0.020 in. (0.51 mm).
(7) Close the L4 latch.
(8) Measure the six o'clock splitline gap between the left and right latch beam panels below the shear pin at the L4 latch location.
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU ADJUST THE 6 O’CLOCK SPLITLINE GAP, DO NOT CLOSE THE L4 LATCH WITH A FORCE OF MORE THAN 30 LBF (13.61 KGF). IF YOU CLOSE THE L4 LATCH WITH A FORCE MORE THAN 30 LBF (13.61 KGF), YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO IT.
(9) Adjust the star wheel on the L4 latch to decrease the six o'clock splitline gap between the left and right latch beam panels in increments of 0.020 in. (0.51 mm). (a) Do this until the gap at the L4 location is within 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) of the gap you adjusted at the L1 location in Step 4.E.(7).
F. Latch Closing Force Measurement
Perform this paragraph to measure the closing force of latches when specified in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(1) Make sure that you close all the latches that you adjusted before.
(2) Put theGAGE - PUSH-PULL (0 lbf (0 daN) to 100 lbf (44 daN)) at the tool hole that is 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) from the edge of the latch handle.
(3) Measure the force necessary to close the latch.
(a) Make sure that the GAGE - PUSH-PULL (0 lbf (0 daN) to 100 lbf (44 daN)) is perpendicular to the latch handle.
Subtask 78-30-00-800-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL Perform this paragraph to measure the closing force of latches when specified in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.
(1) Make sure that you close all the latches that you adjusted before.
(2) Put theGAGE - PUSH-PULL (0 lbf (0 daN) to 100 lbf (44 daN)) at the tool hole that is 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) from the edge of the latch handle.
(3) Measure the force necessary to close the latch.
(a) Make sure that the GAGE - PUSH-PULL (0 lbf (0 daN) to 100 lbf (44 daN)) is perpendicular to the latch handle.
G. IFS and BLS Bumper Gap Measurement
Perform this paragraph to measure the IFS bumpers when specified in the check procedure, full rigging procedure, or troubleshooting procedures.

H. L4 Permitted Gap

MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE SAME NUMBER OF SHIMS AT THE UPPER L1 STRIKER PAD LOCATION AS AT THE AFT L1 STRIKER PAD LOCATION. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE INCORRECTLY DURING FLIGHT.
2 Install the striker pad (6) and shims (7) at the upper L1 striker pad location on the left thrust reverser door with the two bolts (5). a Tighten the bolts (5) by hand.
b Do not torque the bolts (5) at this time.
3 Install the striker pad (6) and shims (7) at the upper L1 striker pad location on the right thrust reverser door with the two bolts (5).
a Tighten the bolts (5) by hand.

a Wet install the fasteners with the base primer (Material No.PU4-0010) mixture.
b Tighten the bolts (16) by hand.
c Do not torque the bolts (16) at this time.
4 Install the striker pad (19) and shims (18) at the L5 striker location on the right thrust reverser door with the two bolts (16).

5 When you complete the adjustment of the shims (18):
a TORQUE the bolts (16) to between 27 and 24.3 lbf.in (0.31 and 0.27 m.daN )

Thrust Reverser Adjustment - Removal and Installation of IFS Bumper Pads, NAI Bumpers, and Striker Pads ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL 1 Remove the two screws (10), the two washers (11), the shims (13) and the NAI bumper (12) from the left thrust reverser door.
2 Remove the two screws (10), the two washers (11), the shims (13) and the NAI bumper (12) from the right thrust reverser door.
(b) Install the NAI bumpers as follows:
1 Collect the number of shims (13) equal to the gap you recorded during adjustment.
2 Install the NAI bumper (12) and shims (13) on the left thrust reverser door with the two screws (10) and the two washers (11).
a Tighten the screws (10) by hand.
b Do not torque the screws (10) at this time.
3 Install the NAI bumper (12) and shims (13) on the right thrust reverser door with the two screws (10) and the two washers (11).
a Tighten the screws (10) by hand.
b Do not torque the screws (10) at this time.
4 When you complete the adjustment of the shims (13), on the left and right thrust reverser doors :
a TORQUE the screws (10) to between 90 and 81 lbf.in (1.02 and 0.92 m.daN )
