D. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Ground Maintenance
Subtask 73-11-48-010-065-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). E. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the left thrust reverser cowl-door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the left thrust reverser cowl-door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
Subtask 73-11-48-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Return Fuel Lines
(3) Install the return fuel hose (15).
(a) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the return fuel hose (15).
(b) Connect the return fuel hose (15) to the pylon interface and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the return fuel hose (15) coupling nut at this time.
(4) Install the upper fuel return tube (12).
(a) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the upper fuel return tube (12).
(b) Connect the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel hose (15) and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the upper fuel return tube (12) coupling nut at this time.
(c) Attach the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel bracket with the bolt (17), washer (16) and clamp (18).
1 Do not torque the bolt (17) at this time.
(d) Attach the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel bracket with the bolt (14), washer (11) and clamp (13).
1 Do not torque the bolt (14) at this time.
(e) Attach the upper fuel return tube (12) to the harness bracket with the bolt (10), washer (11) and clamp (9).
1 Do not torque the bolt (10) at this time.
(5) Install the elbow (5).
(b) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the elbow (5) which will attach to the lower fuel return tube (1).
(c) Connect the elbow (5) to the fuel return valve.
1 Do not torque the elbow (5) at this time.
(6) Install the lower fuel return tube (1).
(a) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the lower fuel return hose (1).
(b) Connect the lower fuel return tube (1) to the upper fuel return tube (12) and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the lower fuel return tube (1) coupling nut at this time.
(c) Connect the lower fuel return tube (1) to the elbow (5) and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the lower fuel return tube (1) coupling nut at this time.
(d) Attach the lower fuel return tube (1) to the middle return fuel bracket with the bolt (8), washer (7) and clamp (6).
1 Do not torque the bolt (8) at this time.
(e) Attach the lower fuel return tube (1) to the lower return fuel bracket with the bolt (2), washer (3) and clamp (4).
1 Do not torque the bolt (2) at this time.
(7) Adjust the tubes (1) and (12) and the hose (15) to keep the load to a minimum.
(8) TORQUE the coupling nut on the elbow (5) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )

(9) TORQUE the coupling nut on the return fuel hose (15) to between 480 and 440 lbf.in (5.42 and 4.97 m.daN )
.
(10) Hold the return fuel hose (15) with the applicable WRENCH - STANDARD.
(a) TORQUE the coupling nut on the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel hose (15) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )
.
(11) Hold the lower fuel return tube (1) with the applicable WRENCH - STANDARD.
(a) TORQUE the coupling nut on the upper fuel return tube (12) to the lower fuel return tube (1) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )
.
(12) Hold the elbow (5) with the applicable WRENCH - STANDARD.
(a) TORQUE the coupling nut on the lower fuel return tube (1) to the elbow (5) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )
.
(13) TORQUE the bolts (2), (8), (10), (14) and (17) to between 35 and 31.5 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.36 m.daN )
.
(14) Apply the torque stripe on the fuel return line.
(a) Clean the surfaces of the coupling nuts on the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces.
1 Use the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) .
2 Clean until you remove all the contamination you can see.
(b) Clean again the surfaces of the coupling nuts on the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces.
1 Use the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) .
2 Remove the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) becomes dry.
(c) Clean the surfaces of the coupling nuts on the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces one more time with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) .
(d) Mix the base primer (Material No.PU4-0010) with the activator (Material No.PU4-0011) and the thinner (Material No.PU4-0012) .
1 Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(e) Paint the torque stripe on the coupling nuts of the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces with the base primer (Material No.PU4-0010) .
5. Close-upCAUTION:
USE A SECOND WRENCH TO HOLD THE MATING PARTS WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE TUBE OR HOSE NUTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN TWIST THE TUBES OR HOSES OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(1) Use the second WRENCH - STANDARD when you tighten the tube or the hose nuts.CAUTION:
REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
(2) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine and adjacent components.(3) Install the return fuel hose (15).
(a) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the return fuel hose (15).
(b) Connect the return fuel hose (15) to the pylon interface and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the return fuel hose (15) coupling nut at this time.
(4) Install the upper fuel return tube (12).
(a) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the upper fuel return tube (12).
(b) Connect the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel hose (15) and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the upper fuel return tube (12) coupling nut at this time.
(c) Attach the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel bracket with the bolt (17), washer (16) and clamp (18).
1 Do not torque the bolt (17) at this time.
(d) Attach the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel bracket with the bolt (14), washer (11) and clamp (13).
1 Do not torque the bolt (14) at this time.
(e) Attach the upper fuel return tube (12) to the harness bracket with the bolt (10), washer (11) and clamp (9).
1 Do not torque the bolt (10) at this time.
(5) Install the elbow (5).
CAUTION:
PUT THE ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND ONLY ON THE THREADS OF THE ELBOW. DO NOT LET THE ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND GET ON OTHER SURFACES. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(a) Apply a thin layer of the anti-seize compound (Material No.PU5-0005) to the threads of the elbow (5) which will attach to the fuel return valve.(b) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the elbow (5) which will attach to the lower fuel return tube (1).
(c) Connect the elbow (5) to the fuel return valve.
1 Do not torque the elbow (5) at this time.
(6) Install the lower fuel return tube (1).
(a) Apply a thin layer of the oil (Material No.PU6-0001) or equivalent to the threads of the lower fuel return hose (1).
(b) Connect the lower fuel return tube (1) to the upper fuel return tube (12) and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the lower fuel return tube (1) coupling nut at this time.
(c) Connect the lower fuel return tube (1) to the elbow (5) and tighten the coupling nut with your hand.
1 Do not torque the lower fuel return tube (1) coupling nut at this time.
(d) Attach the lower fuel return tube (1) to the middle return fuel bracket with the bolt (8), washer (7) and clamp (6).
1 Do not torque the bolt (8) at this time.
(e) Attach the lower fuel return tube (1) to the lower return fuel bracket with the bolt (2), washer (3) and clamp (4).
1 Do not torque the bolt (2) at this time.
(7) Adjust the tubes (1) and (12) and the hose (15) to keep the load to a minimum.
(8) TORQUE the coupling nut on the elbow (5) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )
. (9) TORQUE the coupling nut on the return fuel hose (15) to between 480 and 440 lbf.in (5.42 and 4.97 m.daN )
. (10) Hold the return fuel hose (15) with the applicable WRENCH - STANDARD.
(a) TORQUE the coupling nut on the upper fuel return tube (12) to the return fuel hose (15) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )
.(11) Hold the lower fuel return tube (1) with the applicable WRENCH - STANDARD.
(a) TORQUE the coupling nut on the upper fuel return tube (12) to the lower fuel return tube (1) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )
.(12) Hold the elbow (5) with the applicable WRENCH - STANDARD.
(a) TORQUE the coupling nut on the lower fuel return tube (1) to the elbow (5) to between 470 and 430 lbf.in (5.31 and 4.86 m.daN )
.(13) TORQUE the bolts (2), (8), (10), (14) and (17) to between 35 and 31.5 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.36 m.daN )
. (14) Apply the torque stripe on the fuel return line.
(a) Clean the surfaces of the coupling nuts on the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces.
1 Use the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) .
2 Clean until you remove all the contamination you can see.
(b) Clean again the surfaces of the coupling nuts on the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces.
1 Use the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) .
2 Remove the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before the acetone (Material No.PU2-0002) becomes dry.
(c) Clean the surfaces of the coupling nuts on the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces one more time with the clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) .
(d) Mix the base primer (Material No.PU4-0010) with the activator (Material No.PU4-0011) and the thinner (Material No.PU4-0012) .
1 Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(e) Paint the torque stripe on the coupling nuts of the lower fuel return tube (1), upper fuel return tube (12), fuel return hose (15), elbow (5) and adjacent surfaces with the base primer (Material No.PU4-0010) .
