Test No. 2A - Engine Motor Leak Test (Wet Method) [PW11]

TASK 71-00-00-720-814-A
Test No. 2A - Engine Motor Leak Test (Wet Method)

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT ALL ENGINE-IN-OPERATION AREAS (RAMPS, TAXIWAYS, RUNWAYS, ETC.) ARE SUFFICIENTLY CLEAN TO PREVENT INJURY TO THE PERSONS IN THE AREA AND DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE OR AIRCRAFT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES ARE CLEAR BEFORE YOU MOTOR THE ENGINE. MOVEMENT OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES CAN BE DANGEROUS AND/OR CAUSE DAMAGE.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR GROUND SAFETIES AND THE WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE DANGEROUS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY CONNECTED TO THE AIRCRAFT WHEN YOU DO THIS PROCEDURE. IF A GROUND POWER SUPPLY IS CONNECTED, THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE PUMPS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE FAN COWLS ARE SECURELY HELD OPEN DURING MONITORING. MAKE SURE HOLD OPEN RODS ARE SERVICEABLE.
1. Reason for the Job
Use this procedure to check the complete fuel system and the oil system for leaks. The engine is operated by the starter only for this test.
The wet motor leak test uses the engine starter only to operate the engine for a short time to check for leaks in the fuel or oil system. The ignition system is OFF for this test. The fuel goes to the fuel pump, the engine fuel manifolds and nozzles. Fuel is then sprayed in the combustion chamber.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Prepare the engine motor wet method (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-825).
   (2) If you must check the oil system tubes in the core compartment, open the thrust reverser cowl doors as follows:
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
     (a) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).
     (b) Open the thrust reverser cowl door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-00-00-720-082-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Perform the engine leak check as follows:
   (1) While the engine is motored, do a visual check for leaks at the fuel and oil system tubes and joints.
NOTE: You cannot find leaks in the primary fuel manifolds. An idle leak check is required to check these lines.
5. Close-up
Subtask 71-00-00-860-221-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Return the engine to its initial configuration as per the engine motor wet method (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-825).
   (2) If necessary, close the thrust reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802).
   (3) If necessary, activate the thrust reverser system after maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-805).
