A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

4. Procedure
Subtask 73-11-30-680-050-A
A. Drain the fuel manifold and as follows:
WARNING: DO NOT GET FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH, IN YOUR EYES OR ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THE FUEL. KEEP THE FUEL AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAME AND HEAT. FUEL IS POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE, WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY. THE FUEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO LOOSEN THE NUTS. USE ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE TUBE. USE THE OTHER WRENCH TO LOOSEN THE NUT. IF YOU DO NOT USE TWO WRENCHES, DAMAGE TO THE FUEL DISTRIBUTION MANIFOLD TUBES CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Put the CONTAINER 5 USGAL (19 L) - FUEL RESISTANT (STD-1054) below the fuel nozzle at the 6 o'clock position.
   (2) Disconnect the shroud from the fuel nozzle at the 6 o'clock position.
     (a) Move the shroud to get access to the coupling nut on the fuel manifold.
     (b) Use two WRENCH - STANDARD to disconnect the coupling nut from the fuel nozzle at the 6 o'clock position.
   (3) Disconnect the shroud from the fuel nozzle at the 12 o'clock position.
     (a) Move the shroud to get access to the coupling nut on the fuel manifold.
     (b) Use two WRENCH - STANDARD to disconnect the coupling nut from the fuel nozzle at the 12 o'clock position.
   (4) Let the fuel drain into the container.
   (5) Use your hand to connect the manifold coupling nut to the nipple on the two fuel nozzles at the 6 and 12 o'clock positions.
   (6) Do these steps to tighten the coupling nuts at the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock positions:
     (a) Use two WRENCH - STANDARD to TORQUE the coupling nut to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN ) T.
     (b) Use two WRENCH - STANDARD to loosen the coupling nut.
     (c) Use two WRENCH - STANDARD to TORQUE the coupling nut to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN )
T.
     (d) Use two WRENCH - STANDARD to loosen the coupling nut.
     (e) Use two WRENCH - STANDARD to TORQUE the coupling nut to between 150 and 140 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.58 m.daN )
T.
   (7) Do not attach the shrouds to the fuel nozzle at this time.
Subtask 73-11-30-280-052-A
B. Do these steps to do a check of the PSEC bottom fuel manifold, PSEC RS fuel manifold, PPM RS fuel manifold and PPM LS fuel manifold for leaks.
   (1) Remove the caps from the 956A1209 ADAPTER SET, MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK - FUEL as follows:
     (a) Remove the two cap assemblies (6) from the two tube assemblies (2).
     (b) Remove the plug assembly (9) from tube assembly (4).
     (c) Remove the plug assembly (10) from tube assembly (5).
     (d) Remove the cap assembly (7) from male connector (15).
   (2) Make sure that the plug assembly (8) is tightly installed on the tube assembly (3).
   (3) Connect the two tube assemblies (2) to the PSEC top fuel manifold (7) and PSEC bottom fuel manifold (4) as follows:
     (a) Disconnect the PSEC top fuel tube (13) from the PSEC top fuel manifold (7) B-nut.
     (b) Disconnect the PSEC bottom fuel tube (14) from the PSEC bottom fuel manifold (4) B-nut.
     (c) Tightly connect the two tube assemblies (2) to the PSEC top fuel manifold (7) and PSEC bottom fuel manifold (4).
   (4) Connect the tube assembly (4) to the PPM RS fuel manifold (1) as follows:
     (a) Disconnect the PPM fuel tube (8) B-nut from the PPM RS fuel manifold (1).
     (b) Tightly connect the tube assembly (4) to the PPM RS fuel manifold (1).
   (5) Connect the tube assembly (5) to the PPM LS fuel manifold (6) as follows:
     (a) Disconnect the PPM LS fuel tube (11) B-nut from the PPM LS fuel manifold (6).
     (b) Tightly connect the tube assembly (5) to the PPM LS fuel manifold (6).
   (6) Tightly connect the hose from the 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK to the male connector (15) of the 956A1209 ADAPTER SET, MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK - FUEL.
NOTE: You can use a 856A1115 CART,NITROGEN-FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK (856A1115G06) as an alternative of 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK.
   (7) Use the 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK to apply a pressure to between 40 psi (2.76 bar) and 50 psi (3.45 bar).
NOTE: Inert gas should be filtered to 10 micron maximum with a non-bypass metallic or ceramic mesh filter.
   (8) Let the system pressure to normalize.
   (9) Use leak-tek 160X (Material No.CP2170) at the manifold to the fuel nozzle B-nuts of the manifolds PSEC RS fuel manifold (2) and PPM RS fuel manifold (1).
NOTE: No leakage is permitted.
   (10) If connection is found to be leaking, loosen B-nut and follow the triple torque procedure to re-torque the B-nuts.
NOTE: You can find specified torques in the fuel nozzle installation task (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
     (a) Triple torque procedure:
  • Loosen fitting until free running
  • Torque to specified torque
  • Loosen fitting until free running
  • Torque to specified torque
  • Torque again to specified torque.
   (11) Use lanolin (Material No.CP2179) at the fuel nozzle assemblies where they attach to the combustion case.
     (a) Make sure there are no leaks.
   (12) If there are leaks at the fuel nozzle assemblies, replace the seals between the fuel nozzle and the combustion case (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
   (13) Let the system unpressured to normalize.
   (14) Disconnect the hose from the nitrogen supply cart to the male connector (15).
   (15) Loose the tube assembly (5) from the PPM LS fuel manifold (6) and disconnect.
   (16) Connect the PPM LS fuel manifold (6) to the PPM LS fuel tube (11) as follows:
     (a) Triple torque the PPM LS fuel manifold (11) B-nut as follows:
       1 TORQUE the B-nut to between 540 and 460 lbf.in (6.10 and 5.20 m.daN ) T.
       2 Loosen the B-nut until free running.
       3 TORQUE the B-nut to between 540 and 460 lbf.in (6.10 and 5.20 m.daN )
T.
       4 TORQUE the B-nut again to between 540 and 460 lbf.in (6.10 and 5.20 m.daN )
T.
   (17) Loose the tube assembly (4) from the PPM RS fuel manifold (1) and disconnect.
   (18) Connect the PPM RS fuel manifold (1) to the PPM RS fuel tube (8).
     (a) Triple torque the PPM RS fuel manifold (8) B-nut as follows:
       1 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       2 Loosen the B-nut until free running.
       3 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       4 TORQUE the B-nut again to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
   (19) Loose the two tube assemblies (2) from the PSEC top fuel manifold (7) and PSEC bottom fuel manifold (4) and disconnect.
   (20) Connect the PSEC top fuel manifold (7) to the PSEC top fuel tube (13).
     (a) Triple torque the PSEC top fuel manifold (7) B-nut as follows:
       1 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       2 Loosen the B-nut until free running.
       3 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       4 TORQUE the B-nut again to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
   (21) Connect the PSEC bottom fuel manifold (4) to the PSEC bottom fuel tube (14).
     (a) Triple torque the PSEC bottom fuel manifold (4) B-nut as follows:
       1 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       2 Loosen the B-nut until free running.
       3 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       4 TORQUE the B-nut again to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )

C. Do these steps to do a check of the PSEC RS fuel manifold, PSEC LS fuel manifold, PPM enriched fuel manifold (3) for leaks.
   (1) Make sure that the plug assembly (10) is tightly installed on the tube assembly (5).
   (2) Connect the two tube assemblies (2) to the PSEC RS fuel manifold (2) and PSEC LS fuel manifold (5) as follows:
     (a) Disconnect the PSEC RS fuel tube (9) from the PSEC RS fuel manifold (2) B-nut.
     (b) Disconnect the PSEC LS fuel tube (12) from the PSEC LS fuel manifold (5) B-nut.
     (c) Tightly connect the tube assemblies (2) to the PSEC RS fuel manifold (2) and PSEC LS fuel manifold (5).
   (3) Connect the tube assembly (4) to the PPM enriched fuel manifold (3) as follows:
     (a) Disconnect the PPM enriched fuel tube (10) B-nut from the PPM enriched fuel manifold (3).
     (b) Tightly connect the tube assembly (4) to the PPM enriched fuel manifold (3).
   (4) Tightly connect the hose from the 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK to the male connector (15).
   (5) Use the 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK to apply a pressure to between 40 psi (2.76 bar) and 50 psi (3.45 bar) to the manifolds.
NOTE: Inert gas should be filtered to 10 micron maximum with a non-bypass metallic or ceramic mesh filter.
   (6) Permit the system pressure to normalize.
   (7) Use leak-tek 160X (Material No.CP2170) at the manifold to the fuel nozzle B-nuts of the manifolds PSEC RS fuel manifold (2) and PSEC LS fuel manifold (5).
NOTE: No leakage is permitted.
   (8) If connection is found to be leaking, loosen B-nut and follow the triple torque procedure to re-torque the B-nuts.
NOTE: You can find specified torques in the fuel nozzle installation task (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
     (a) Triple torque procedure:
  • Loosen fitting until free running
  • Torque to specified torque
  • Loosen fitting until free running
  • Torque to specified torque
  • Torque again to specified torque.
   (9) Use lanolin (Material No.CP2179) at the fuel nozzle assemblies where they attach to the combustion case. Make sure there are no leaks.
   (10) If there are leaks at the fuel nozzle assemblies, replace the seals between the fuel nozzle and the combustion case (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
   (11) Permit the system unpressured to normalize.
   (12) Disconnect the adapter set 956A1209 ADAPTER SET, MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK - FUEL (15) from the 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK.
   (13) Disconnect the tube assembly (4) from the PPM enriched fuel manifold (3).
   (14) Connect the PPM enriched fuel manifold (3) to the PPM enriched fuel tube (10) as follows:
     (a) Triple torque the PPM enriched fuel manifold (10) B-nut as follows:
       1 TORQUE the B-nut to between 540 and 460 lbf.in (6.10 and 5.20 m.daN ) T.
       2 Loosen the B-nut until free running.
       3 TORQUE the B-nut to between 540 and 460 lbf.in (6.10 and 5.20 m.daN )
T.
       4 TORQUE the B-nut again to between 540 and 460 lbf.in (6.10 and 5.20 m.daN )
T.
   (15) Disconnect the two tube assemblies (2) from the PSEC LS fuel manifold (5) and PSEC RS fuel manifold (2).
   (16) Connect the PSEC LS fuel manifold (5) to the PSEC LS fuel tube (12).
     (a) Triple torque the PSEC LS fuel manifold (5) B-nut as follows:
       1 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       2 Loosen the B-nut until free running.
       3 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       4 TORQUE the B-nut again to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
   (17) Connect the PSEC RS fuel manifold (2) to the PSEC RS fuel tube (9).
     (a) Triple torque the PSEC RS fuel manifold (2) B-nut as follows:
       1 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       2 Loosen the B-nut until free running.
       3 TORQUE the B-nut to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
       4 TORQUE the B-nut again to between 308 and 262 lbf.in (3.48 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
   (18) Tightly connect the plug assembly (9) into tube assembly (4).
   (19) Tightly connect the cap assembly (6) into tube assembly (2), in each of two places.

D. If necessary, individual fuel nozzle assemblies may be pressure tested. Begin by removing, per engine manual, the necessary fuel manifold.
   (1) Remove the plug assembly (8) from the tube assembly (3).
   (2) Install the tube assembly (3) to the fuel nozzle assembly to be tested, and tighten.
   (3) Tightly connect the hose from the 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK to the male connector (15).
   (4) Put 10 psi (0.69 bar) of nitrogen into the fuel manifold.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO OPEN FLAME OR OTHER SOURCE OF IGNITION NEAR THE ENGINE. THE FUEL VAPORS CAN CATCH FIRE. IF THERE IS A FIRE IT CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Make sure that the check valves in the fuel nozzles do not open at this pressure.
     (b) Slowly increase the pressure to 15 psi (1.03 bar).
     (c) Make sure that the check valves in the fuel nozzles do not open as the pressure increases. If a check valve opens, then replace the fuel nozzle (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
   (5) Slowly increase the pressure until one of the check valves in the fuel nozzles opens.
   (6) Make sure that a check valve opens before you reach 60 psi (4.14 bar).
NOTE: A check valve will usually open before you reach 30 psi (2.07 bar).
   (7) Slowly decrease the pressure until the check valves in the fuel nozzles are closed.
   (8) Use Snoop Leak Detector to look for leaks at the fuel nozzle coupling nuts and the fuel manifold as follows.
     (a) If you find a leak, then continue.
     (b) If you do not find a leak, then do the steps below to put the airplane in a serviceable condition.

E. If you find a leak in the tubes of the fuel manifold, then replace the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-51-000-803) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-51-400-803).
Subtask 73-11-30-210-055-A
F. If you find a leak at the fuel nozzle coupling nuts, then do these steps:
   (1) Use two wrenches to disconnect the fuel nozzle coupling nut.
   (2) Visually examine the ferrule and seat of the coupling nut and the seat of the fuel nozzle.
     (a) If the ferrule and seat of the coupling nut is damaged, then replace the engine as follows (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-51-000-803) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-51-400-803).
     (b) If the seat of the fuel nozzle is damaged, then replace the fuel nozzle (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
   (3) If connection is found to be leaking, loosen B-nut and follow the triple torque procedure to re-torque the B-nuts.
NOTE: You can find specified torques in the fuel nozzle installation (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
     (a) Triple torque procedure:
  • Loosen fitting until free running
  • Torque to specified torque
  • Loosen fitting until free running
  • Torque to specified torque
  • Torque again to specified torque.
   (4) Use lanolin (Material No.CP2179) at the fuel nozzle assemblies where they attach to the combustion case.
     (a) Make sure there are no leaks.
   (5) If there are leaks at the fuel nozzle assemblies, replace the seals between the fuel nozzle and the combustion case (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-30-400-802).
   (6) Permit the system unpressured to normalize.
   (7) Disconnect the 956A1209 ADAPTER SET, MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK - FUEL (15) from the 956A1256G01 CART, NITROGEN - FUEL MANIFOLD PRESSURE CHECK.
   (8) Disconnect the tube assembly (3) from fuel nozzle assembly.
   (9) Install the plug assembly (8) into tube assembly (3) and tighten.
   (10) Install the cap assembly (7) into male connector (15) and tighten.
