C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance

YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). D. Get Access

4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl-doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-62-01-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Installation of the Angle Gearbox
(2) Install the angle gearbox (1) on the Compressor Intermediate Case (CIC) driveshaft as follows:
(a) Apply theP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) or the P06-053 lubricant, sealing ring to all the new EIPC 72-62-01-01-040 PACKING (2), EIPC 72-62-01-01-060 PACKING (4), EIPC 72-62-01-01-020 PACKING (5), EIPC 72-62-01-01-070 PACKING (74) and EIPC 72-62-01-01-280 PACKING (75).
(b) (c) Install the two packings (5) on the transfer tube (6).
(d) Install the two packings (2) on the transfer tube (3).
(e) Install the transfer tubes (6) and (3) on the angle gearbox (1).
(f) Install the packings (74) and (75) and the plate (8) on the layshaft cover (7).
(g) Install the layshaft cover (7) on the main gearbox layshaft cover to provide clearance for the angle gearbox installation.
(h) Align and engage the CIC driveshaft splines with the angle gearbox (1) splines.
(i) Apply theP06-054 compound, paste, anti−seize to the threads of the four bolts (16).
1 For the new or the refurbished bolts or the nuts with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(j) Install the angle gearbox (1) with the four bolts (16).
(k) TORQUE the four bolts (16) to between 340 and 300 lbf.in (3.84 and 3.39 m.daN )
.
(3) Install the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) on the main gearbox as follows:
(a) If the eight detail hexagonal head cap screws and the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER are installed on the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) pad, remove them.
(b) Install the retaining ring (28) on the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27).
(c) Apply theP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) to the splines at each end of the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27).
(d) Install the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) on the main gearbox and engage the rear splines with the angle gearbox (1) drive gear splines.
(e) If the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) is not fully engaged in the angle gearbox (1), then fully engage it as follows:
1 Remove the two bolts (40) and the two washers (39) from the manual crank cover (37).
2 Attach the PWA211190 MECHANICAL PULLER to the PWA211159 PULLER, MECHANICAL - MAIN GEARBOX, OIL NOZZLE.
4 Remove and discard the packing (38).
5 Install the WRENCH - STANDARD through the main gearbox crank pad on the manual crank shaft.
6 Turn the manual crank shaft with the WRENCH - STANDARD until the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) splines align with the angle gearbox (1) splines.
7 Push the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) to the angle gearbox (1) until the splines fully engage.
8 Remove the WRENCH - STANDARD from the main gearbox crank pad.
(4) Attach the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER to the IDG gearbox pad as follows:
(a) Attach the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER to the gearbox pad with the eight hexagonal head cap screws.
(b) Tighten the eight hexagonal head cap screws.
(5) Install the plug (51) on the driveshaft access port as follows:
(a) Apply theP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) to the new EIPC 72-62-01-01-210 PACKING (50).
(b) Install the packing (50) on the plug (51).
(c) Install the plug (51) on the driveshaft access port.
(6) Install the lock nut (61) on the driveshaft access port as follows:
(a) Apply theP06-054 compound, paste, anti−seize to the threads and the contact surface of the lock nut (61).
1 For the new or the refurbished hardware with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(b) Install the lock nut (61) on the driveshaft access port.
(c) Install the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER on the lock nut (61).
(d) Make sure that the minimum run on torque of the lock nut (61) is a minimum of 310 lbf.in (3.50 m.daN).
(e) TORQUE the lock nut (61) to between 975 and 885 lbf.in (11.02 and 10.00 m.daN )
more than the minimum run on torque, but not more than 3000 lbf.in (33.90 m.daN).
(f) Remove the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER from the lock nut (61).
(g) Remove the eight hexagonal head cap screws and the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER from the IDG pad.
(7) Install the driveshaft access port cover (71) on the driveshaft access port as follows:
(a) Apply theP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) or the P06-053 lubricant, sealing ring to the new EIPC 72-62-01-01-240 PACKING (73).
(b) Install the packing (73) on the driveshaft access port cover (71).
(c) Apply the grease (Material No.P04-010) to the threads of the two bolts (72) and (75).
1 For the new or the refurbished bolts or the nuts with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(d) To get easier access to install the driveshaft access port cover (7), move the bracket (74).
(e) Attach the driveshaft access port cover (71) to the driveshaft access port with the two washers (39) and the two bolts (72).
(f) Attach the bracket (74) to the main gearbox with the two bolts (75) and tighten them with your fingers.
(g) TORQUE the two bolts (72) to between 70 and 60 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.68 m.daN )
.
(h) TORQUE the two bolts (75) to between 95 and 78 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.88 m.daN )
.
(8) Install the layshaft cover on the angle gearbox (1) as follows:
(a) Apply theP06-054 compound, paste, anti−seize to the threads of the four bolts (72).
(b) Install the layshaft cover, plate (8) and bracket (73) on the angle gearbox (1) with the two washers (39) and the four bolts (72).
(c) TORQUE the four bolts (72) to between 70 and 60 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.68 m.daN )
.
(9) Install the lubrication return tube (LR30) on the angle gearbox (1) as follows:
(a) Apply theP06-054 compound, paste, anti−seize to the threads of the two bolts (83) and the bolt (84).
1 For the new or the refurbished bolts or the nuts with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(b) Install the EIPC 72-62-01-01-080 SEAL (85), tube (LR30) and bracket (86) on the angle gearbox (1) with the two bolts (83) and the bolt (84).
(c) TORQUE the two bolts (83) and the bolt (84) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN )
in small increments until the same torque indication holds.
(10) If the main gearbox oil supply tube (LP35) is removed, install it (Ref. AMM TASK 72-61-01-400-801).
(11) Attach the manual crank cover (37) to the main gearbox crank pad as follows:
(a) Apply theP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) or the P06-053 lubricant, sealing ring to the new EIPC 72-61-01-02-290 PACKING (38).
(b) Install the packing (38) on the manual crank cover (37).
(c) Apply theP06-054 compound, paste, anti−seize to the threads of the two bolts (40).
(d) Install the manual crank cover (37) on the main gearbox crank pad with the two washers (39) and the two bolts (40).
(e) TORQUE the two bolts (40) to between 95 and 78 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.88 m.daN )
.
(12) Install the lubrication return tube (LR35) (98) on the angle gearbox (1) as follows:
(a) Apply theP06-054 compound, paste, anti−seize to the threads of the two bolts (97) and the three bolts (100).
1 For the new or the refurbished bolts or the nuts with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(b) Install the tube (LR35) (98) and the new EIPC 79-21-01-01-060 SEAL (99) on the lubrication and the scavenge oil pump with the three bolts (100).
(c) Install the tube (LR35) (98) and the EIPC 72-62-01-01-090 SEAL (96) on the angle gearbox (1) with the two bolts (97).
(d) TORQUE the three bolts (100) and the two bolts (97) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN )
in small increments until the same torque indication holds.
(13) If the N2 speed transducer is removed, install it (Ref. AMM TASK 77-11-23-400-801).
(14) Examine the assembly for the foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
5. Close-upCAUTION:
REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.(2) Install the angle gearbox (1) on the Compressor Intermediate Case (CIC) driveshaft as follows:
(a) Apply the
(b) (c) Install the two packings (5) on the transfer tube (6).
(d) Install the two packings (2) on the transfer tube (3).
(e) Install the transfer tubes (6) and (3) on the angle gearbox (1).
(f) Install the packings (74) and (75) and the plate (8) on the layshaft cover (7).
(g) Install the layshaft cover (7) on the main gearbox layshaft cover to provide clearance for the angle gearbox installation.
(h) Align and engage the CIC driveshaft splines with the angle gearbox (1) splines.
(i) Apply the

(j) Install the angle gearbox (1) with the four bolts (16).
(k) TORQUE the four bolts (16) to between 340 and 300 lbf.in (3.84 and 3.39 m.daN )
. (3) Install the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) on the main gearbox as follows:
(a) If the eight detail hexagonal head cap screws and the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER are installed on the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) pad, remove them.
(b) Install the retaining ring (28) on the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27).
(c) Apply the
(d) Install the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) on the main gearbox and engage the rear splines with the angle gearbox (1) drive gear splines.
(e) If the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) is not fully engaged in the angle gearbox (1), then fully engage it as follows:
1 Remove the two bolts (40) and the two washers (39) from the manual crank cover (37).
2 Attach the PWA211190 MECHANICAL PULLER to the PWA211159 PULLER, MECHANICAL - MAIN GEARBOX, OIL NOZZLE.
NOTE: You can use the PWA211773 PULLER, SLIDE MAIN as an alternative to the nozzle extractor.
3 Use the PWA211159 PULLER, MECHANICAL - MAIN GEARBOX, OIL NOZZLE and the PWA211190 MECHANICAL PULLER or the PWA211773 PULLER, SLIDE MAIN to remove the manual crank cover (37) from the main gearbox crank pad. 4 Remove and discard the packing (38).
5 Install the WRENCH - STANDARD through the main gearbox crank pad on the manual crank shaft.
6 Turn the manual crank shaft with the WRENCH - STANDARD until the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) splines align with the angle gearbox (1) splines.
7 Push the gearbox driveshaft assembly (27) to the angle gearbox (1) until the splines fully engage.
8 Remove the WRENCH - STANDARD from the main gearbox crank pad.
(4) Attach the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER to the IDG gearbox pad as follows:
(a) Attach the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER to the gearbox pad with the eight hexagonal head cap screws.
(b) Tighten the eight hexagonal head cap screws.
(5) Install the plug (51) on the driveshaft access port as follows:
(a) Apply the
(b) Install the packing (50) on the plug (51).
(c) Install the plug (51) on the driveshaft access port.
(6) Install the lock nut (61) on the driveshaft access port as follows:
(a) Apply the
1 For the new or the refurbished hardware with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(b) Install the lock nut (61) on the driveshaft access port.
(c) Install the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER on the lock nut (61).
(d) Make sure that the minimum run on torque of the lock nut (61) is a minimum of 310 lbf.in (3.50 m.daN).
(e) TORQUE the lock nut (61) to between 975 and 885 lbf.in (11.02 and 10.00 m.daN )
more than the minimum run on torque, but not more than 3000 lbf.in (33.90 m.daN). (f) Remove the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER from the lock nut (61).
(g) Remove the eight hexagonal head cap screws and the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER from the IDG pad.
(7) Install the driveshaft access port cover (71) on the driveshaft access port as follows:
(a) Apply the
(b) Install the packing (73) on the driveshaft access port cover (71).
(c) Apply the grease (Material No.P04-010) to the threads of the two bolts (72) and (75).
1 For the new or the refurbished bolts or the nuts with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(d) To get easier access to install the driveshaft access port cover (7), move the bracket (74).
(e) Attach the driveshaft access port cover (71) to the driveshaft access port with the two washers (39) and the two bolts (72).
(f) Attach the bracket (74) to the main gearbox with the two bolts (75) and tighten them with your fingers.
(g) TORQUE the two bolts (72) to between 70 and 60 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.68 m.daN )
. (h) TORQUE the two bolts (75) to between 95 and 78 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.88 m.daN )
.(8) Install the layshaft cover on the angle gearbox (1) as follows:
(a) Apply the
(b) Install the layshaft cover, plate (8) and bracket (73) on the angle gearbox (1) with the two washers (39) and the four bolts (72).
(c) TORQUE the four bolts (72) to between 70 and 60 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.68 m.daN )
. (9) Install the lubrication return tube (LR30) on the angle gearbox (1) as follows:
(a) Apply the

(b) Install the EIPC 72-62-01-01-080 SEAL (85), tube (LR30) and bracket (86) on the angle gearbox (1) with the two bolts (83) and the bolt (84).
(c) TORQUE the two bolts (83) and the bolt (84) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN )
in small increments until the same torque indication holds. (10) If the main gearbox oil supply tube (LP35) is removed, install it (Ref. AMM TASK 72-61-01-400-801).
(11) Attach the manual crank cover (37) to the main gearbox crank pad as follows:
(a) Apply the
(b) Install the packing (38) on the manual crank cover (37).
(c) Apply the
(d) Install the manual crank cover (37) on the main gearbox crank pad with the two washers (39) and the two bolts (40).
(e) TORQUE the two bolts (40) to between 95 and 78 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.88 m.daN )
. (12) Install the lubrication return tube (LR35) (98) on the angle gearbox (1) as follows:
(a) Apply the

(b) Install the tube (LR35) (98) and the new EIPC 79-21-01-01-060 SEAL (99) on the lubrication and the scavenge oil pump with the three bolts (100).
(c) Install the tube (LR35) (98) and the EIPC 72-62-01-01-090 SEAL (96) on the angle gearbox (1) with the two bolts (97).
(d) TORQUE the three bolts (100) and the two bolts (97) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN )
in small increments until the same torque indication holds. (13) If the N2 speed transducer is removed, install it (Ref. AMM TASK 77-11-23-400-801).
(14) Examine the assembly for the foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802):

(2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
