Replacement of the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) Oil Seal
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU HANDLE THE OIL SEAL. DO NOT CAUSE SCRATCHES OR DAMAGE TO THE CARBON SEALING SURFACE DURING HANDLING OR INSTALLATION. IF THE CARBON SEALING SURFACE IS DAMAGED, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE SEAL ASSEMBLY.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
Subtask 72-61-01-010-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). D. Get Access
(1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

4. Procedure(1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-61-01-010-059-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL Subtask 72-61-01-350-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL B. Replacement of the IDG Oil Seal
(1) Remove the IDG oil seal (2) as follows:
(a) Put a CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL) under the IDG drive pad.
(b) Remove the retaining ring (1) that attaches the oil seal (2) to the gearbox.
(c) Install the PWA211137 PULLER, MECHANICAL jaws on the puller groove of the oil seal (2).
(d) Use the PWA211137 PULLER, MECHANICAL to remove the oil seal (2) from the gearbox.
(e) Remove the oil seal (2) from the PWA211137 PULLER, MECHANICAL.
(f) Remove and discard the packing (3) from the seal (2).
(2) Remove the mating ring (13) from the IDG shaft as follows:
(a) Prepare the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL as follows:
1 Make sure that the fingers of the bush are open. If not, fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise.
2 Fully turn the shaft clockwise to lower the centering.
(b) Put the centering in position onto the shaft.
(c) Make sure that the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL aligns with the shaft.
(d) Turn the shaft counterclockwise until the protector touches the mating ring (13).
(e) Turn the outer sleeve clockwise until the fingers engage the mating ring (13).
(f) Hold the handle and turn the shaft clockwise until you remove the mating ring (13).
(g) Fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise to disengage the mating ring (13).
(h) Remove the mating ring (13).
(i) Remove and discard the packing (14) from the mating ring (13).
(3) Install the mating ring (13) on the IDG shaft as follows:
(a) ApplyP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine
(b) Install the packing (14) on the mating ring (13).
(c) Make sure that the packing (14) is correctly installed into its groove.
(d) Prepare the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL as follows:
1 Make sure that the fingers of the bush are open. If not, fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise.
2 Fully turn the shaft counterclockwise to lift the centering.
(e) Install the mating ring (13) on the shaft as follows:
1 Install the mating ring (13) on the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL.
(f) Align the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL with the shaft.
(g) Put the mating ring (13) on the shaft and push until it stops.
(i) Fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise to disengage the mating ring (13).
(j) Remove the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL.
(4) Make sure that the mating ring (13) is correctly installed on the IDG shaft as follows:
(a) Put the PWA211776 TESTER, GAGE in position on the IDG shaft.
(b) Push until the tester stops and hold it in position.
(c) Look at the pin.
1 If you cannot see the red band of the pin, the mating ring (13) is correctly installed.
2 Go to step 4.B.(5).
3 If you can see the red band of the pin, the mating ring (13) is not correctly installed.
4 Remove the mating ring (13). Refer to step 4.B.(2).
5 Do step 4.B.(3) and step 4.B.(4) again.
(5) Install the IDG oil seal (2) as follows:
(a) Examine the inner surface of the mount pad and wipe it clean with aP05-005 wipe, lint-free
(b) ApplyP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine
(c) Install the packing (3) in the groove on the oil seal (2).
(d) ApplyP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine
(e) Install the oil seal (2) equally and in small increments on the mount pad of the main gearbox.
1 Make sure that the oil seal (2) is fully engaged and the retaining ring groove is not blocked.
(f) Install the retaining ring (1) in the groove of the mount pad to keep the oil seal (2) in position.
Subtask 72-61-01-410-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL 5. Close-up(1) Remove the IDG oil seal (2) as follows:
(a) Put a CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL) under the IDG drive pad.
(b) Remove the retaining ring (1) that attaches the oil seal (2) to the gearbox.
(c) Install the PWA211137 PULLER, MECHANICAL jaws on the puller groove of the oil seal (2).
(d) Use the PWA211137 PULLER, MECHANICAL to remove the oil seal (2) from the gearbox.
(e) Remove the oil seal (2) from the PWA211137 PULLER, MECHANICAL.
(f) Remove and discard the packing (3) from the seal (2).
(2) Remove the mating ring (13) from the IDG shaft as follows:
(a) Prepare the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL as follows:
1 Make sure that the fingers of the bush are open. If not, fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise.
2 Fully turn the shaft clockwise to lower the centering.
(b) Put the centering in position onto the shaft.
(c) Make sure that the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL aligns with the shaft.
(d) Turn the shaft counterclockwise until the protector touches the mating ring (13).
(e) Turn the outer sleeve clockwise until the fingers engage the mating ring (13).
(f) Hold the handle and turn the shaft clockwise until you remove the mating ring (13).
(g) Fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise to disengage the mating ring (13).
(h) Remove the mating ring (13).
(i) Remove and discard the packing (14) from the mating ring (13).
(3) Install the mating ring (13) on the IDG shaft as follows:
(a) Apply
(b) Install the packing (14) on the mating ring (13).
(c) Make sure that the packing (14) is correctly installed into its groove.
(d) Prepare the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL as follows:
1 Make sure that the fingers of the bush are open. If not, fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise.
2 Fully turn the shaft counterclockwise to lift the centering.
(e) Install the mating ring (13) on the shaft as follows:
1 Install the mating ring (13) on the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL.
NOTE: The four antirotation tabs of the mating ring must point towards the shaft.
2 Turn the outer sleeve clockwise until the fingers engage the mating ring (13). (f) Align the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL with the shaft.
(g) Put the mating ring (13) on the shaft and push until it stops.
NOTE: If the mating ring (13) is correctly installed, the shaft turns together with the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL.
(h) Make sure that the four antirotation tabs of the mating ring (13) engage with the slots on the bearing. (i) Fully turn the outer sleeve counterclockwise to disengage the mating ring (13).
(j) Remove the PWA211775 PULLER, MECHANICAL.
(4) Make sure that the mating ring (13) is correctly installed on the IDG shaft as follows:
(a) Put the PWA211776 TESTER, GAGE in position on the IDG shaft.
(b) Push until the tester stops and hold it in position.
(c) Look at the pin.
1 If you cannot see the red band of the pin, the mating ring (13) is correctly installed.
2 Go to step 4.B.(5).
3 If you can see the red band of the pin, the mating ring (13) is not correctly installed.
4 Remove the mating ring (13). Refer to step 4.B.(2).
5 Do step 4.B.(3) and step 4.B.(4) again.
(5) Install the IDG oil seal (2) as follows:
(a) Examine the inner surface of the mount pad and wipe it clean with a

(c) Install the packing (3) in the groove on the oil seal (2).
(d) Apply
(e) Install the oil seal (2) equally and in small increments on the mount pad of the main gearbox.
1 Make sure that the oil seal (2) is fully engaged and the retaining ring groove is not blocked.
(f) Install the retaining ring (1) in the groove of the mount pad to keep the oil seal (2) in position.

(1) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
(2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(3) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

B. Do the reactivation of the thrust reverser system after ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-805).
