Replace the Nut Plates - Fire Containment Ring Assembly - Compressor Intermediate Case [PW11]

TASK 72-34-01-960-802-A
Replace the Nut Plates - Fire Containment Ring Assembly - Compressor Intermediate Case

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: THIS AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL REPAIR LETS YOU REPLACE ONLY THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER'S NUT PLATES. IF THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE HOLE(S) AND AN OVERSIZE NUT PLATE IS NECESSARY, THEN YOU MUST NOT DO THE REPAIR ON-WING. YOU MUST REMOVE AND REPAIR THE PART (REFER TO THE APPLICABLE CLEANING, INSPECTION & REPAIR MANUAL).
CAUTION: USE SUFFICIENT PROTECTIVE COVERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DRILLED-OUT METAL CHIPS WILL GO INTO THE OPEN AREAS, CAVITIES, HOLES AND PORTS. THEY CAN GO INTO THE FLOWPATH AND PREVENT CORRECT OPERATION OF THE ENGINE.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE 2.5 BLEED VALVE IS CLOSED BEFORE YOU DO THE REPAIR.
CAUTION: USE A DRILL STOP WHEN YOU DRILL OUT THE RIVETS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE DRILL CAN EXTEND INTO THE PARENT MATERIAL AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FIREWALL.

A. Replacement of the nut plate:
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (1) Find the fire containment ring (1) attached to the compressor intermediate case. See Sheet 1 of the figure
   (2) Remove the fasteners that attach the fan exit liner segment to the fire containment ring (1) and remove the fan exit liner segment to gain access for drilling out the rivets (12) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-000-801).
   (3) Remove the damaged nut plates (11) at location N as follows:
See Table 1.
     (a) Remove the rivets (12) that attach the nut plates (11) to the front flange of the fire containment ring (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-802).
     (b) Remove and discard the nut plates (11).
   (4) Clean the areas where the nut plates (11) were removed and the adjacent areas by SPOP 208 (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-804).
   (5) Do a visual inspection of the fire containment ring (1) surfaces where the nut plates (11) were removed. Refer to Section 70-31-00 in the standard practices manual, PN 585005.
   (6) Remove only sharp edges and raised material at the hole to prepare for the dimensional inspection. Refer to Repair-09, Section 70-00-00 in the standard practices manual, PN 585005.
   (7) Do a dimensional Inspection of the rivet holes. Refer to 70-43-00 in the standard practices manual, PN 585005 for rivet hole visual and dimensional limits.
   (8) Apply epoxy primer coating for titanium by SPOP 148 in local area A where the protective coating has been removed from the fire containment ring (1). Refer to PW SPM-0000-70-41-03-15A-610A-D.
   (9) Put the new nut plate(s) (11) in the correct location on the side of the front flange of the fire containment ring (1) and align the rivet holes. Attach each new nut plate (11) in position with a BOLT - WORK (0.250 - 28 IN.).
   (10) Install the rivets (12) by PWA 357-21. Refer to PW SPM-0000-70-43-00-03A-624-A-D.
   (11) Examine the rivets (12) for cracks, clearance, and correct installation by PWA 357 and
Refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-802) in the standard practices manual, PN 585005. If the rivet (12) is not in the limits after installation, remove and replace the rivet (12).
NOTE: Each rivet head surface must be below surface Z after rivet installation.
   (12) Install the fan exit liner segment and the parts that attach the fan exit liner segment to the fire containment ring (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-400-801).
