WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-24-80-941-051-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

4. Procedure
Subtask 72-24-80-420-050-A
A. Installation of the Variable Bleed Valve (VBV) Ducts
CAUTION: DURING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE SEAL, BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PULL THE RUBBER PINS TO DISENGAGE/ENGAGE THEM. IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, YOU CAN BREAK THE RUBBER PINS.
   (1) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (3) Installation of VBV duct 6 (40), VBV duct 7 (48) and VBV duct 8 (54):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four screws (46), the four screws (52) and the four screws (57) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
     (b) Install the VBV duct forward-seal (58) in the correct position on VBV duct 8 (54).
     (c) Install VBV duct 8 (54) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (d) Install VBV grid 8 (56) in the correct position.
     (e) Install the four screws (57) to attach VBV grid 8 (56) to VBV duct 8 (54) and tighten them with your hand.
     (f) TORQUE the four screws (57) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN ) T.
     (g) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (55) on VBV duct 8 (54).
     (h) Install the VBV duct forward-seal (53) in the correct position on VBV duct 7 (48).
     (i) Install VBV duct 7 (48) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (j) Install VBV grid 7 (51) in the correct position.
     (k) Install the four screws (52) to attach VBV grid 7 (51) to VBV duct 7 (48) and tighten them with your hand.
     (l) TORQUE the four screws (52) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN )
T.
     (m) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (50) on VBV duct 7 (48).
     (n) Connect the manifold (49) to VBV duct 7 (48).
     (o) Install the VBV duct forward-seal (47) in the correct position on VBV duct 6 (40).
     (p) Install VBV duct 6 (40) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (q) Install VBV grid 6 (45) in the correct position.
     (r) Install the four screws (46) to attach VBV grid 6 (45) to VBV duct 6 (40) and tighten them with your hand.
     (s) TORQUE the four screws (46) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN )
T.
     (t) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (44) on VBV duct 6 (40).
     (u) Install the hose clamp (42) on VBV duct 6 (40).
     (v) Connect the core manifold (41) to VBV duct 6 (40).
     (w) Install the screw (43) to attach the core manifold (41) to VBV duct 6 (40) and tighten it with your hand.
     (x) TORQUE the screw (43) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN )
T.
     (y) Install segment shroud 5 (39) (
Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-01-400-801).
   (4) Installation of VBV duct 5 (34):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four screws (37) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
     (b) Install the VBV duct forward-seal (38) in the correct position on VBV duct 5 (34).
     (c) Install VBV duct 5 (34) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (d) Install VBV grid 5 (36) in the correct position.
     (e) Install the four screws (37) to attach VBV grid 5 (36) to VBV duct 5 (34) and tighten them with your hand.
     (f) TORQUE the four screws (37) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN ) T.
     (g) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (35) on VBV duct 5 (34).
     (h) Install segment shroud 4 (33) (
Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-01-400-801).
   (5) Installation of VBV duct 4 (25):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four screws (31) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
     (b) Install the VBV duct forward seal (32) in the correct position on the VBV duct 4 (25).
     (c) Install VBV duct 4 (25) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (d) Install VBV grid 4 (30) in the correct position.
     (e) Install the four screws (31) to attach VBV grid 4 (30) to VBV duct 4 (25) and tighten them with your hand.
     (f) TORQUE the four screws (31) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN ) T.
     (g) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (29) on VBV duct 4 (25).
     (h) Install the hose clamp (27) on VBV duct 4 (25).
     (i) Connect the air manifold (26) to VBV duct 4 (25).
     (j) Install the screw (28) to attach the air manifold (26) to VBV duct 4 (25) and tighten it with your hand.
     (k) TORQUE the screw (28) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN )
T.
     (l) Install segment shroud 3 (24) (
Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-01-400-801).
   (6) Installation of VBV duct 2 (11) and VBV duct 3 (19):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four screws (17) and the four screws (22) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
     (b) Install the VBV duct forward-seal (23) in the correct position on VBV duct 3 (19).
     (c) Install VBV duct 3 (19) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (d) Install VBV grid 3 (21) in the correct position.
     (e) Install the four screws (22) to attach VBV grid 3 (21) to VBV duct 3 (19) and tighten them with your hand.
     (f) TORQUE the four screws (22) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN ) T.
     (g) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (20) on VBV duct 3 (19).
     (h) Install the VBV duct forward-seal (18) in the correct position on VBV duct 2 (11).
     (i) Install VBV duct 2 (11) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (j) Install VBV grid 2 (16) in the correct position.
     (k) Install the four screws (17) to attach VBV grid 2 (16) to VBV duct 2 (11) and tighten them with your hand.
     (l) TORQUE the four screws (17) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN )
T.
     (m) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (15) on VBV duct 2 (11).
     (n) Install the junction shroud fitting (10) (
Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-06-400-801).
     (o) Install segment shroud 2 (8) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-01-400-801).
     (p) Install the junction shroud fitting (9) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-06-400-801).
   (7) Installation of VBV duct 1 (2):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four screws (5) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
     (b) Install the VBV duct forward-seal (6) in the correct position on VBV duct 1 (2).
     (c) Install VBV duct 1 (2) in the correct position on the fan hub (7).
     (d) Install VBV grid 1 (4) in the correct position.
     (e) Install the four screws (5) to attach VBV grid 1 (4) to VBV duct 1 (2) and tighten them with your hand.
     (f) TORQUE the four screws (5) to between 36.75 and 33.25 lbf.in (0.42 and 0.38 m.daN ) T.
     (g) Install the VBV duct aft-seal (3) on VBV duct 1 (2).
     (h) Install segment shroud 1 (1) (

5. Close-up

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806)
