C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl-doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)
451AL, 452AR.
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
461AL, 462AR.
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-21-04-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Fan Exit Fairing - Upper Bifi
   (1) Remove the joint plate (Ref. AMM TASK 54-57-22-000-821).
   (2) Removal of the protection covers
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.
   (3) Install the two brackets (4) to the Compressor-Intermediate Case (CIC) firewall as follows:
     (a) Apply PWA 36246 anti-seize paste (Material No.P06-054) to the threads of the four bolts (3).
NOTE: For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
     (b) Install the two brackets (4) to the CIC firewall with the four bolts (3).
     (c) Initially TORQUE the four bolts (3) to between 10 and 1 lbf.in (0.11 and 0.01 m.daN ) T.
   (4) If you do not use the
PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE, continue to step 4.A.(6).
   (5) If you use the PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE, continue to step 4.A.(7).
   (6) Install the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) to the CIC firewall without the PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE as follows:
     (a) Apply PWA 36246 anti-seize paste (Material No.P06-054) to the threads of the two bolts (2).
NOTE: For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
     (b) Install the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) to the two brackets (4) on the CIC firewall with the two bolts (2).
     (c) Make sure the two fan exit fairing (upper) (1) hooks do not engage with fan case V-groove.
NOTE: The fan case V-groove is forward and adjacent of flange D.
     (d) TORQUE the two bolts (2) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN ) T.
     (e) Move the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) to the left outermost position.
     (f) Put a mark on the left outermost position with a P05-423PMC 4050−20 marker, fine tip, rapid drying or TAPE - ADHESIVE to show the location on the CIC firewall.
     (g) Move the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) to the right outermost position.
     (h) Put a mark on the right outermost position with a P05-423PMC 4050−20 marker, fine tip, rapid drying or TAPE - ADHESIVE to show the location on the CIC firewall.
     (i) Remove the four bolts (3) from the two brackets (4).
     (j) Engage the two fan exit fairing (upper) (1) hooks to the fan case V-groove forward of flange D.
     (k) Put the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) in the center of the left outermost and right outermost marks and make sure that the left outermost mark is in 0.005 in. (0.127 mm) of the right outermost mark.
     (l) Install the four bolts (3) to the two brackets (4) again.
     (m) TORQUE the four bolts (3) to between 44 and 38 lbf.in (0.50 and 0.43 m.daN )
T.
     (n) Apply PWA 36246 anti-seize paste (Material No.
P06-054) to the threads of the six screws (14).
NOTE: For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
     (o) Install the six screws (14) to the fan exit fairing (upper) (1).
     (p) TORQUE the six screws (14) to between 17 and 13 lbf.in (0.19 and 0.15 m.daN ) T in an equal and opposite pattern. Start from the outboard screws and work inboard.
     (q) TORQUE the six screws (14) to between 30 and 26 lbf.in (0.34 and 0.29 m.daN )
T in an equal and opposite pattern. Start from the outboard screws and work inboard.
     (r) Measure the distance between the left outermost mark and right outermost mark and make sure that the distance is in 0.010 in. (0.254 mm).
     (s) If the measurement between the marks is not in the limit, loosen the six screws (14) and the four bolts (3) and tap lightly on the fan exit fairing (upper) to adjust until the measurements are in 0.010 in. (0.254 mm).
     (t) Do step 4.A.(6)(l), step 4.A.(6)(m), step 4.A.(6)(o), step 4.A.(6)(p) and step 4.A.(6)(q) again and remove the TAPE - ADHESIVE if necessary.
     (u) Remove the two bolts (2) from the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) and the two brackets (4).
   (7) Install the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) to the CIC firewall with the
PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE as follows:
     (a) Install the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) to the CIC firewall and fan case V-groove.
NOTE: The fan case V-groove is forward and adjacent of flange D.
     (b) Make sure the two fan exit fairing (upper) (1) hooks engage with the V-groove.
     (c) Apply PWA 36246 anti-seize paste (Material No.P06-054) to the threads of the six screws (14).
NOTE: For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
     (d) Install the six screws (14) to the fan exit fairing (upper) (1).
     (e) Initially TORQUE the six screws (14) to between 5 and 1 lbf.in (0.06 and 0.01 m.daN ) T.
     (f) Remove the detail pin from the
PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE.
     (g) Loosen the clamp with the knob and pull the locator block outboard.
     (h) Install the PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE to the engine mount with the pin.
     (i) Move the locator block inboard until it touches the fan exit fairing (upper) (1).
     (j) Tighten the clamp with the knob and TORQUE the six screws (14) to between 17 and 13 lbf.in (0.19 and 0.15 m.daN ) T in an equal and opposite pattern. Start from the outboard screws and work inboard.
     (k) TORQUE the six screws (14) to between 30 and 26 lbf.in (0.34 and 0.29 m.daN )
T in an equal and opposite pattern. Start from the outboard screws and work inboard.
     (l) Remove the pin from the engine mount and
PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE and remove the PWA211253 SUPPORT FIXTURE.
     (m) Apply PWA 36246 anti-seize paste (Material No.P06-054) to the threads of the four bolts (3).
NOTE: For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
     (n) Install the two brackets (4) to the CIC firewall with the four bolts (3) fingertight.
     (o) Align the two brackets (4) to the fan exit fairing (upper) (1).
     (p) TORQUE the four bolts (3) to between 44 and 38 lbf.in (0.50 and 0.43 m.daN ) T.
   (8) Install the fan exit fairing (left) (26) and fan exit fairing (right) (25) to the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) as follows:
     (a) Remove the two bolts (24) from the fan exit fairing (upper) (1).
     (b) Apply PWA 36246 anti-seize paste (Material No.
P06-054) to the threads of the two bolts (24).
     (c) Install the two bolts (24) to the fan exit fairing (upper) fingertight.
     (d) Make sure the two bolts (24) are not fully installed.
     (e) Align and attach the two fan exit fairing (left) (26) and fan exit fairing (right) (25) holes to the two fan exit fairing (upper) (1) bolts.
     (f) Install the two bolts (2) to the fan exit fairing (left) (26) and fan exit fairing (right) (25).
     (g) TORQUE the two bolts (2) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN ) T.
     (h) TORQUE the two bolts (24) to between 30 and 26 lbf.in (0.34 and 0.29 m.daN )
T.
NOTE: The fan exit fairing (upper) can fall into the flow path not more than 0.420 in. (10.668 mm).
     (i) Route the Safety Cable (Material No.
P05-291) (left) (36) end through the right side of the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) slot and let it hang forward of the fan exit fairing (left) (26) standoff hole.
     (j) Put the Safety Cable (Material No.P05-291) (left) (36) end through the fan exit fairing (left) (26) standoff hole until there is sufficient length to attach a Safety Cable Ferrule (Material No.P05-292) (37).
     (k) Route the Safety Cable (Material No.P05-291) (right) (36) end through the left side of the fan exit fairing (upper) (1) slot and let it hang forward of the fan exit fairing (right) (25) standoff hole.
     (l) Put the Safety Cable (Material No.P05-291) (right) (36) end through the fan exit fairing (right) (25) standoff hole until there is sufficient length to attach a Safety Cable Ferrule (Material No.P05-292) (37).
     (m) Attach the two safety cable ferrules (37) to the safety cable (left and right) (36) ends. (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-813). Do not trim the safety cable (left and right) (36) ends.
   (9) Install the joint plate (Ref. AMM TASK 54-57-22-400-821).
   (10) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
5. Close-up

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)
451AL, 452AR.
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
