A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that you did the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser is unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

C. Get access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)
437AL 438AR.
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
447AL 448AR.
   (2) Make sure that the thrust-reverser cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)
451AL 452AR.
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
461AL 462AR.
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, at zone 410
     (b) For the right pylon, at zone 420.
   (4) Install the fan exit fairing - upper Bifi (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-04-400-801).

D. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) If they are not sufficiently clean, clean the parts kept from the removed component with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-57-22-420-083-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Joint Plate and the Nose Fire Seal
F Joint Plate and Nose Fire Seal ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Assemble the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2) together before the installation:
     (a) Make sure that the nose fire seal (1) is in the correct condition. If it is not, discard it and install the new nose fire AIPC 54-57-82-23-140 SEAL (1).
     (b) Assemble the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2) together on the pylon box:
       1 Put and hold the nose fire seal (1) in position on the joint plate (2).
       2 Install the nut (7).
       3 TORQUE the nut (7) to between 1.7 and 1.3 m.N (15.04 and 11.50 lbf.in )

     (c) Install the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2) on the pylon box:
       1 Slide the assembly from the upper side of the pylon-to-engine forward fitting.
       2 If necessary, carefully bend the joint plates (2) out to engage the seal fastener threads in the oblong holes.
NOTE: Two operators are necessary for this procedure, one on each side of the pylon box.
       3 Make sure that the seal is correctly installed on the pylon-to-engine forward fitting and the fan exit fairing - upper Bifi.
       4 Make sure that there is no deformation or clearance between the lower part of the nose fire seal (1) and the fan exit fairing - upper Bifi.
NOTE: A deformation or clearance is permitted between the upper part of the nose fire seal (1) and the fan exit fairing - upper Bifi only if there is no deformation or clearance on the lower part of the nose fire seal (1).
       5 If you find clearance or deformation on the lower part of the nose fire seal (1):
  • Remove the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2).
  • Do step (2) again.
       6 Install the bolts (3) and (6) and tighten them.
       7 Install the washers (4) and the nuts (5).
       8 TORQUE the nuts (5) to between 1.7 and 1.3 m.N (15.04 and 11.50 lbf.in )

F Joint Plate and Nose Fire Seal ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Assemble the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2) together before the installation:
     (a) Make sure that nose fire seal (1) is in the correct condition. If it is not, discard it and install the new nose fire AIPC 54-57-82-23-140 SEAL (1).
     (b) Assemble the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2) together on the pylon box:
       1 Put and hold the nose fire seal (1) in position on the joint plate (2).
       2 Install the nut (7).
       3 TORQUE the nut (7) to between 4.7 and 3.7 m.N (41.59 and 32.74 lbf.in )

     (c) Install the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2) on the pylon box:
       1 Slide the assembly from the upper side of the pylon-to-engine forward fitting.
       2 If necessary, carefully bend the joint plates (2) out to engage the seal fastener threads in the oblong holes.
NOTE: Two operators are necessary for this procedure, one on each side of the pylon box.
       3 Make sure that the seal is correctly installed on the pylon-to-engine forward fitting and the fan exit fairing - upper Bifi.
       4 Make sure that there is no deformation or clearance between the lower part of the nose fire seal (1) and the fan exit fairing - upper Bifi.
NOTE: A deformation or clearance is permitted between the upper part of the nose fire seal (1) and the fan exit fairing - upper Bifi only if there is no deformation or clearance on the lower part of the nose fire seal (1).
       5 If you find clearance or deformation on the lower part of the nose fire seal (1):
  • Remove the nose fire seal (1) and the joint plate (2).
  • Do step (2) again.
       6 Install the bolts (3) and (6) and tighten them.
       7 Install the washers (4) and the nuts (5).
       8 TORQUE the nuts (5) to between 4.7 and 3.7 m.N (41.59 and 32.74 lbf.in )

   (2) Close the thrust-reverser cowl doors (
