REMOVE OR INSTALL ONLY THREE STRUCTURAL GUIDE VANES AT A TIME ON AN ASSEMBLED ENGINE. STRUCTURAL GUIDE VANES ARE NECESSARY FOR ENGINE STRUCTURE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS WARNING, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Ground Maintenance
Subtask 72-21-02-010-065-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). D. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl-doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl-doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

Subtask 72-21-02-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Structural Guide Vane
(1) Removal of the protection covers:
(2) (a)P06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize to the threads of the two bolts (6) and (9).
(d) Install the structural guide vane (1) with two bolts (6), two bolts (9), four washers (10) and four nuts (11) handtight.
(e) Align the rear inner mounting flange of the structural guide vane (1) axially.
(f) Install the two screws (23).
(g) Install the two bolts (7) and two washers (8) on the fan intermediate case.
(h) TORQUE the two screws (23) to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )

(i) TORQUE the two bolts (7) to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )
.
(j) 1 If the initial structural guide vane and shims are installed again, you can waive the shim calculation and can use the same shims as before the structural guide vane removal.
(k) Select the specific shims to fill the gaps. See the Table 1 and the Table 2.
3 Install the shims that are selected at Step 4.A.(2)(j) above.
a If the initial shims are available, insert the initial shims.
4 ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize to the threads of the two bolts (6) and two bolts (9).
a Install the two bolts (6), two bolts (9), four washers (10) and four nuts (11) again.
5 Torque the nuts (11) as follows:

b TORQUE the two nuts (11) installed to the rear shim bolts (6) to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )
.
c Do not loosen the nuts before you apply the torque to the nuts again.
d TORQUE all of the nuts (11) again to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )
.
(3) If necessary, do Para 4.A.(2)(a) through Para 4.A.(2)(l)5_d_ again for the remaining 47 structural guide vanes (1).
(4) Install the outer liner segments required to gain access to the structural guide vane (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-05-400-803).
(5) Install the inner liner segments required to gain access to the structural guide vane (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-12-400-801).
(6) Install the fan exit liner segment required to gain access to the structural guide vane (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-400-801).
(7) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
5. Close-up(1) Removal of the protection covers:
CAUTION:
REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
(a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine. (2) (a)
NOTE: There are five different types of structural guide vanes.
(b) (c) Apply (d) Install the structural guide vane (1) with two bolts (6), two bolts (9), four washers (10) and four nuts (11) handtight.
(e) Align the rear inner mounting flange of the structural guide vane (1) axially.
(f) Install the two screws (23).
(g) Install the two bolts (7) and two washers (8) on the fan intermediate case.
(h) TORQUE the two screws (23) to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )

BE CAREFUL NOT TO LET SHIMS FALL ONTO THE ENGINE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, FOD DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
1 NOTE: A maximum of three shims are permitted.
2 Remove the two bolts (6), two bolts (9), four nuts (11) and four washers (10) from the structural guide vane (1). 3 Install the shims that are selected at Step 4.A.(2)(j) above.
a If the initial shims are available, insert the initial shims.
4 Apply
a Install the two bolts (6), two bolts (9), four washers (10) and four nuts (11) again.
5 Torque the nuts (11) as follows:
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY THE TORQUE SEQUENCE GIVEN. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS SEQUENCE, INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN OCCUR.
a TORQUE the two nuts (11) installed to the front shim bolts (9) to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )
. b TORQUE the two nuts (11) installed to the rear shim bolts (6) to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )
. c Do not loosen the nuts before you apply the torque to the nuts again.
d TORQUE all of the nuts (11) again to between 134 and 126 lbf.in (1.51 and 1.42 m.daN )

(6) Install the fan exit liner segment required to gain access to the structural guide vane (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-400-801).
(7) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
