Use this procedure to install the Low Pressure Compressor (LPC), High Pressure Compressor (HPC), diffuser case, High Pressure Turbine (HPT), Turbine Intermediate Case (TIC) and Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) borescope plugs.

Installation of the Borescope Plugs

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Ground Maintenance

YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). D. Get Access

4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl-doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):

CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-00-00-420-082-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Installation of the Borescope Plugs
(1) Removal of the protection covers:
(2) Install the LPC borescope plugs as follows:
(a) Find the three AP LPC plug (1), (2) and (4) bosses located on the LPC case at approximately the 2 o'clock position.
(c) Wipe each AP LPC boss and borescope-plug thread clean withP05-005 wipe, lint-free .
(d) ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize on the threads of each AP LPC borescope-plug and boss. Wipe off unwanted paste.
1 For new or refurbished plugs with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(e) Install the AP LPC-1 PLUG (2) and the cup washer (3) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the LPC variable inlet-vanes and 1st stage blades:
1 When the plug (2) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (2) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (2) is fully installed on the case boss.
(f) TORQUE the AP LPC-1 PLUG (2) to between 60 and 50 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.57 m.daN )

(g) Crimp the front part of the cup washer (3) into the slot of the AP LPC-1 PLUG (2).
(h) Install the AP LPC-2 PLUG (1) and the cup washer (3) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the LPC 1st-stage vanes and 2nd stage blades:
1 When the plug (1) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (1) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (1) is fully installed on the case boss.
(i) TORQUE the AP LPC-2 PLUG (1) to between 60 and 50 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.57 m.daN )

(j) Crimp the front part of the cup washer (3) into the slot of the AP LPC-2 PLUG (1).
(k) Install the AP LPC-3 PLUG (4) and the cup washer (3) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the LPC 2nd-stage vanes and 3rd stage blades:
1 When the plug (4) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (4) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (4) is fully installed on the case boss.
(l) TORQUE the AP LPC-3 PLUG (4) to between 60 and 50 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.57 m.daN )

(m) Crimp the front part of the cup washer (3) into the slot of the AP LPC-3 PLUG (4).
(n) Install the fan exit-liner segments (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-400-801).
(a) Find the eight HPC borescope plug (14), (15), (16), (26), (36), (37), (38) and (39) bosses located on the HPC at approximately the 2 o'clock to 3 o'clock position.
(b) Clean each AP HPC boss and borescope-plug thread. Use the BRUSH - WIRE, STAINLESS STEEL to remove carbon deposits and anti-gallant compounds.
(c) Wipe each AP HPC boss and borescope-plug thread clean withP05-005 wipe, lint-free .
(d) ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize on the threads of each AP HPC borescope-plug and boss. Wipe off unwanted paste.
1 For new or refurbished plugs with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(e) Install the AP HPC-1 PLUG (14) in the boss located at the 3 o'clock position between the HPC Inlet Guide Vanes (IGV) and 1st stage rotor. See sheet 1 of the figure:
1 When the plug (14) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (14) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (14) is fully installed on the case boss.
(f) TORQUE the AP HPC-1 PLUG (14) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )

(g) Install the AP HPC-2 PLUG (15) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the HPC 1st-stage stator and 2nd stage rotor:
1 When the plug (15) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (15) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (15) is fully installed on the case boss.
(h) TORQUE the AP HPC-2 PLUG (15) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )

(i) Install the AP HPC-3 PLUG (26) in the boss located at the 4 o'clock position between the HPC 2nd-stage stator and 3rd stage rotor. See sheet 2 of the figure:
1 When the plug (26) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (26) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (26) is fully installed on the case boss.
(j) TORQUE the AP HPC-3 PLUG (26) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )

(k) Install the AP HPC-4 PLUG (16) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the HPC 3rd-stage stator and 4th stage rotor. See sheet 1 of the figure:
1 When the plug (16) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (16) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (16) is fully installed on the case boss.
(l) TORQUE the AP HPC-4 PLUG (16) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )

(m) Install the AP HPC-5 PLUG (37) in the boss located at the 3 o'clock position between the HPC 4th-stage stator and 5th stage rotor. See sheet 3 of the figure:
1 When the plug (37) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (37) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (37) is fully installed on the case boss.

(n) Install the AP HPC-5 PLUG (37) in the boss located at the 3 o'clock position between the HPC 4th-stage stator and 5th stage rotor. See sheet 3 of the figure:
1 ApplyP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) on the plunger bearing area while you rotate the plunger until the bearing area moves freely.
2 When the plug (37) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (37) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
3 Make sure that the plug (37) is fully installed on the case boss.

(o) TORQUE the AP HPC-5 PLUG (37) to between 59 and 52 lbf.in (0.67 and 0.59 m.daN )

(p) Install the AP HPC-6 PLUG (36) in the boss located at the 2:30 o'clock position between the HPC 5th-stage stator and 6th stage rotor:
1 When the plug (36) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (36) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (36) is fully installed on the case boss.

(q) Install the AP HPC-6 PLUG (36) in the boss located at the 2:30 o'clock position between the HPC 5th-stage stator and 6th stage rotor:
1 ApplyP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) on the plunger bearing area while you rotate the plunger until the bearing area moves freely.
2 When the plug (36) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (36) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
3 Make sure that the plug (36) is fully installed on the case boss.

(r) TORQUE the AP HPC-6 PLUG (36) to between 59 and 52 lbf.in (0.67 and 0.59 m.daN )

(s) Install the AP HPC-7 PLUG (38) in the boss located at the 2:30 o'clock position between the HPC 6th-stage stator and 7th stage rotor:
1 When the plug (38) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (38) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (38) is fully installed on the case boss.
(t) TORQUE the AP HPC-7 PLUG (38) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )

(u) Install the AP HPC-8 PLUG (39) in the boss located at the 3 o'clock position between the HPC 7th-stage stator and 8th stage rotor:
1 When the plug (39) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (39) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (39) is fully installed on the case boss.

(v) Install the AP HPC-8 PLUG (39) in the boss located at the 3 o'clock position between the HPC 7th-stage stator and 8th stage rotor:
1 ApplyP03-001 lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) on the plunger bearing area while you rotate the plunger until the bearing area moves freely.
2 When the plug (39) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (39) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
3 Make sure that the plug (39) is fully installed on the case boss.

(w) TORQUE the AP HPC-8 PLUG (39) to between 75 and 68 lbf.in (0.85 and 0.77 m.daN )

(4) Install the diffuser-case borescope plug as follows:
(a) Find the AP DIFF-1 PLUG (49) boss located on the diffuser case at approximately the 3 o'clock position.
(b) Clean the AP boss and borescope plug thread. Use the BRUSH - WIRE, STAINLESS STEEL to remove carbon deposits and anti-gallant compounds.
(c) Wipe the AP boss and borescope plug thread clean withP05-005 wipe, lint-free .
(d) ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize on the threads of each AP DIFF borescope-plug and boss. Wipe off unwanted paste.
1 For new or refurbished plugs with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
1 When the plug (49) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (49) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (49) is fully installed on the case boss.
(f) TORQUE the AP DIFF-1 PLUG (49) to between 120 and 100 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.13 m.daN )

(5) Install the diffuser-case borescope plugs as follows:
(a) Find the AP DIFF-1 PLUG (49) boss located on the diffuser case at approximately the 3 o'clock position.
(b) Find the AP DIFF-2 PLUG (73) boss located on the diffuser case at approximately the 10 o'clock position.
Borescope Plugs - (Install The Diffuser Case Plug) (Config-2 Case Assembly Durability Improvement Configuration) ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
(c) Clean the AP bosses and borescope plug threads. Use the BRUSH - WIRE, STAINLESS STEEL to remove carbon deposits and anti-gallant compounds.
(d) Wipe the AP bosses and borescope plug threads clean withP05-005 wipe, lint-free .
(e) ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize on the threads of each AP DIFF borescope-plug and boss. Wipe off unwanted paste.
1 For new or refurbished plugs with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
1 Use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (49) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (49) is fully installed on the case boss.
(g) TORQUE the AP DIFF-1 PLUG (49) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )

(h) Install the AP DIFF-2 PLUG (73) in the boss located at the 10 o'clock position on the diffuser-case forward flange:
Borescope Plugs - (Install The Diffuser Case Plug) (Config-2 Case Assembly Durability Improvement Configuration) ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1 Use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (73) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (73) is fully installed on the case boss.
(i) TORQUE the AP DIFF-2 PLUG (73) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )

(6) Install the HPT and TIC borescope plugs as follows:
(a) Find the AP HPT-1 PLUG (50) boss located on the HPT at approximately the 5 o'clock position.
(b) Find the AP TIC-1 PLUG (60) boss located on the HPT at approximately the 1:30 o'clock position.
(c) Clean each AP HPT boss and borescope-plug thread. Use the BRUSH - WIRE, STAINLESS STEEL to remove carbon deposits and anti-gallant compounds.
(d) Wipe each AP boss and borescope plug thread clean withP05-005 wipe, lint-free .
(e) ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize on the threads of the AP HPT-1 PLUG (50) borescope-plug.
1 When the plug (50) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (50) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (50) is fully installed on the case boss.
(g) TORQUE the AP HPT-1 PLUG (50) to between 120 and 105 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.19 m.daN )

(h) ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize on the threads of the AP TIC-1 PLUG (60) borescope-plug.
(i) Install the AP TIC-1 PLUG (60) in the boss located at the 1:30 o'clock position between the TIC connecting rods:
1 When the plug (60) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (60) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (60) is fully installed on the case boss.
(j) TORQUE the AP TIC-1 PLUG (60) to between 200 and 150 lbf.in (2.26 and 1.70 m.daN )

(a) Find the AP LPT PLUG (61) and (62) bosses located on the LPT at approximately the 2:30 o'clock position.
(b) Clean each AP LPT boss and borescope-plug thread. Use the BRUSH - WIRE, STAINLESS STEEL to remove carbon deposits and anti-gallant compounds.
(c) Wipe each AP boss and borescope plug thread clean withP05-005 wipe, lint-free .
(d) ApplyP06-054 compound, paste, anti-seize by SPOP 169 on the threads of each AP LPT borescope-plug and boss (Ref. AMM TASK 70-28-00-910-807).
1 For new or refurbished plugs with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(e) Install the AP LPT-1 PLUG (61) in the boss located at the 2:30 o'clock position between the LPT 1st-stage rotor, 2nd stage stator and 2nd stage rotor:
1 When the plug (61) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (61) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (61) is fully installed on the case boss.
(f) TORQUE the AP LPT-1 PLUG (61) to between 162 and 148 lbf.in (1.83 and 1.67 m.daN )

(g) Install the AP LPT-2 PLUG (62) in the boss located at the 2:30 o'clock position between the LPT 2nd-stage rotor, 3rd stage stator and 3rd stage rotor:
1 When the plug (62) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (62) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (62) is fully installed on the case boss.
(h) TORQUE the AP LPT-2 PLUG (62) to between 162 and 148 lbf.in (1.83 and 1.67 m.daN )

(8) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
5. Close-up(1) Removal of the protection covers:
CAUTION:
REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
(a) Make sure that you remove the COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.(2) Install the LPC borescope plugs as follows:
(a) Find the three AP LPC plug (1), (2) and (4) bosses located on the LPC case at approximately the 2 o'clock position.
NOTE: LPC front case Part Number (P/N) 5377500-01 will have the borescope plug installed at the 8 o'clock position.
(b) Clean each AP LPC boss and borescope-plug thread with the BRUSH - WIRE, STAINLESS STEEL to remove carbon deposits and anti-gallant compounds.(c) Wipe each AP LPC boss and borescope-plug thread clean with

1 For new or refurbished plugs with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(e) Install the AP LPC-1 PLUG (2) and the cup washer (3) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the LPC variable inlet-vanes and 1st stage blades:
1 When the plug (2) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (2) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (2) is fully installed on the case boss.
(f) TORQUE the AP LPC-1 PLUG (2) to between 60 and 50 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.57 m.daN )
.(g) Crimp the front part of the cup washer (3) into the slot of the AP LPC-1 PLUG (2).
(h) Install the AP LPC-2 PLUG (1) and the cup washer (3) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the LPC 1st-stage vanes and 2nd stage blades:
1 When the plug (1) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (1) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (1) is fully installed on the case boss.
(i) TORQUE the AP LPC-2 PLUG (1) to between 60 and 50 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.57 m.daN )
.(j) Crimp the front part of the cup washer (3) into the slot of the AP LPC-2 PLUG (1).
(k) Install the AP LPC-3 PLUG (4) and the cup washer (3) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the LPC 2nd-stage vanes and 3rd stage blades:
1 When the plug (4) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (4) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (4) is fully installed on the case boss.
(l) TORQUE the AP LPC-3 PLUG (4) to between 60 and 50 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.57 m.daN )
.(m) Crimp the front part of the cup washer (3) into the slot of the AP LPC-3 PLUG (4).
(n) Install the fan exit-liner segments (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-400-801).
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE CASE LOCK RINGS ARE CORRECTLY INSTALLED BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE BORESCOPE PLUGS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LOCK RINGS.

DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN THE MAXIMUM PERMITTED TORQUE TO THE PLUG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PLUG.

MAKE SURE THAT THE PLUG HEAD IS FULLY INSTALLED IN THE BORESCOPE PLUG BOSS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PLUG.

(3) Install the HPC borescope plugs as follows:(a) Find the eight HPC borescope plug (14), (15), (16), (26), (36), (37), (38) and (39) bosses located on the HPC at approximately the 2 o'clock to 3 o'clock position.
(b) Clean each AP HPC boss and borescope-plug thread. Use the BRUSH - WIRE, STAINLESS STEEL to remove carbon deposits and anti-gallant compounds.
(c) Wipe each AP HPC boss and borescope-plug thread clean with

1 For new or refurbished plugs with baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
(e) Install the AP HPC-1 PLUG (14) in the boss located at the 3 o'clock position between the HPC Inlet Guide Vanes (IGV) and 1st stage rotor. See sheet 1 of the figure:
1 When the plug (14) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (14) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (14) is fully installed on the case boss.
(f) TORQUE the AP HPC-1 PLUG (14) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )
.(g) Install the AP HPC-2 PLUG (15) in the boss located at the 2 o'clock position between the HPC 1st-stage stator and 2nd stage rotor:
1 When the plug (15) is in position, use the SOCKET STANDARD and the EXTENSION to thread the plug (15) with light force until it is fully installed on the case boss to make sure that there is no binding.
2 Make sure that the plug (15) is fully installed on the case boss.
(h) TORQUE the AP HPC-2 PLUG (15) to between 43 and 36 lbf.in (0.49 and 0.41 m.daN )
.(i) Install the AP HPC-3 PLUG (26) in the boss located at the 4 o'clock position between the HPC 2nd-stage stator and 3rd stage rotor. See sheet 2 of the figure:
