WARNING: THE CARTRIDGE IS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE. REMOVE IT BEFORE YOU DISASSEMBLE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. TO PREVENT INJURY TO THE PERSONNEL BECAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION OF THE CARTRIDGE IF IT HAS NOT BEEN FIRED:
  • INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE.
  • THIS WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE ITS REMOVAL.
DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT.
WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE A FULL FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. A SUDDEN OR HEAVY SHOCK TO A FULL BOTTLE CAN CAUSE UNWANTED DISCHARGE AND INJURY TO PERSONS.
WARNING: IF YOU REMOVE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLES IN A CLOSED HANGAR, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A FLOW OF NEW AIR IN THE HANGAR.
CAUTION: BEFORE INSTALLATION, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE, DISCHARGE HEAD AND CARTRIDGE ARE FROM THE SAME VENDOR, AND
  • THE PART NUMBERS ARE THE ONES SPECIFIED IN THE IPC.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/ MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser is unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

   (2) Make sure that the thrust-reverser cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zone 415
     (b) For the right pylon, in zone 425.
   (4) Make sure that the pylon lateral access-doors are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-804):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415BL 415CR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425BL 425CR.
   (5) Make sure that the engine fire-extinguisher bottles are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 26-21-41-000-001).

E. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) If they are not sufficiently clean, clean the parts retained from the removed component with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-63-420-050-A
A. Installation of the Supports of the Engine Fire-Extinguisher Bottles
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Put and hold the bracket (1) in position on RIB6 of the pylon box.
   (2) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) on the shanks of the bolts (2), (3), (4) and (5).
   (3) Install the bolts (3) and (4) and the nuts (10).
   (4) Do the electrical bonding at the applicable locations of the bracket (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (5) Install the bolts (2) and (5) and the nuts (9).
   (6) Tighten the nuts (9) and (10).
   (7) Put and hold the clamp (6) in position on the bracket (1).
   (8) Install the washers (7) and the bolts (8).
   (9) Tighten the bolts (8).
   (10) Put and hold the bracket (11) in position on RIB7 of the pylon box.
   (11) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) on the shanks of the bolts (15), (16), (17) and (18).
   (12) Install the bolts (16) and (17) and the nuts (20).
   (13) Do the electrical bonding at the applicable locations of the bracket (11) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (14) Install the bolts (15) and (18) and the nuts (19).
   (15) Tighten the nuts (19) and (20).
   (16) Put and hold the clamp (12) in position on the bracket (11).
   (17) Install the washers (13) and the bolts (14).
   (18) Tighten the bolts (14).
   (19) Put and hold the bracket (21) in position on RIB8 of the pylon box.
   (20) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) on the shanks of the bolts (22) and (23).
   (21) Install the bolts (23) and the nuts (25).
   (22) Do the electrical bonding at the applicable locations of the bracket (21) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (23) Install the bolts (22) and the nuts (24).
   (24) Tighten the nuts (24) and (25).
