DETAILED INSPECTION OF THE VISIBLE PART OF INLET COWL ANTI-ICE SUPPLY DUCTS AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE IN THE CORE AND FAN CASE COMPARTMENTS.
This task gives the procedure for a detailed visual inspection of the visible part of inlet cowl anti-ice supply-ducts and associated hardware in the engine core and fan compartments.

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that engine 1(2) shutdown occurred for not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

Open fan cowls 447AL and 448AR.
   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

E. Deactivate the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Deactivate the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
Open thrust reverser halves 451AL and 452AR.

Open thrust reverser halves 461AL and 462AR.

G. Remove the insulation on the couplings (4) and (10) and the NAI ducts No 3, 4 and 5 (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-000-806).
4. Procedure

A. Clean the Anti-Ice Duct Assembly
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with cleaning fluid (Material No.V01-002) or cleaning fluid (Material No.V01-003) to clean the anti-ice duct assembly.
   (2) Dry the components with a clean lint-free cloth.

B. Examine the Anti-Ice Duct Assembly for Security of Attachment
   (1) Use an LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and MIRROR - INSPECTION to examine these parts for damage, wear and loss of torque:
  • The attachment nuts and bolts
  • The couplings (1), (2), (3), (4), (7), (9) and (10)
  • The NAI duct No 1.

   (2) If one or more of these parts are damaged, refer to Ref. V2500 CMME PN 2A4412 Tubes, Hoses and Ducts, chapter 30-21-49 Anti-Ice Ducts for permitted damage data.

C. Examine the Anti-Ice Ducts for Signs of Leaks
   (1) Examine the inner surfaces of the insulations for signs of leaks:
     (a) If you see discoloration marks on the insulation piece:
       1 Replace the seal or packing in the coupling joint at that location.
       2 Replace the anti-ice duct insulation (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-000-806) and (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-806).
   (2) Use the LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and MIRROR - INSPECTION to examine all the anti-ice duct connections for signs of leak.
   (3) If you see discoloration marks on the coupling joint:
     (a) Replace the seal or packing at the coupling joint that you think is unserviceable.
   (4) If NAI duct No. 1 at the compressor case joint is discolored or marked:
     (a) Examine the bolts for loss of torque (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-010). If there is a loss of torque, examine the bolts for damage and wear. Install new or serviceable bolts (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-010).

D. Examine the Condition of the Anti-Ice Duct Assembly
   (1) Examine the items that follow for cracks.
  • NAI ducts No 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
  • The couplings (1), (2), (3), (4), (7), (9) and (10).
   (2) Examine the parts that follow for dents or damage.
  • The NAI ducts No 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
   (3) Examine these parts for clear damage.
     (a) The couplings (1), (2), (3), (4), (7), (9) and (10).
   (4) If one or more of these parts are damaged, refer to Ref. V2500 CMME PN 2A4412 Tubes, Hoses and Ducts, chapter 30-21-49 Anti-Ice Ducts for permitted damage data.

E. Inspection of the Pylon Anti-Ice Duct
   (1) In the fire bulkhead area, examine the pylon anti-ice duct (11), the castellated flange and the metallic seals for signs of damage.
  • Use an MIRROR - INSPECTION or a BORESCOPE DIA 6 MM (0.2 IN.) MAX - SIDE VIEW FLEXIBLE or equivalent, if necessary.
     (a) If there is damage on the duct:
     (b) If there is damage on the castellated flange or on the seals:
     (c) If there is no damage, no more maintenance is necessary.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-410-010):
