A. Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 26-12-18-420-050-A
A. Installation of the Fan Area Fire-Detection Elements
   (1) Removal of protection covers
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
     (a) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Install the 6 o'clock fire detection elements as follows:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the bolts that follow with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) :
  • The four bolts (39) and the four bolts (67)
  • The nuts (36) and (37) and the nuts (64) and (65).
     (b) Do a visual check of the fire detection component interfaces and/or adjacent area.
     (c) Make sure that the plastic jaws and the responder brackets removed and retained during the fire-detection element removal are clean and in the serviceable condition.
     (d) Put the responder bracket (38) with the responder (40) in position on the support bracket of the fire detection support rail.
     (e) Install the four bolts (39) to attach the responder (40) on the left side of the engine.
     (f) TORQUE the four bolts (39) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in ) T.
     (g) Align the fire detection elements (69) and (67) along the route identified by the 11 clips.
     (h) One clip at a time, align the fire detection elements (69) and (70) in the grooves of the clip. Install the plastic jaws. Close the clips and turn the fasteners one-half turn to lock the clips as follows:
       1 Turn the fastener (42) to lock the clip (41).
       2 Turn the fastener (44) to lock the clip (43).
       3 Turn the fastener (46) to lock the clip (45).
       4 Turn the fastener (48) to lock the clip (47).
       5 Turn the fastener (50) to lock the clip (49).
       6 Turn the fastener (52) to lock the clip (51).
       7 Turn the fastener (54) to lock the clip (53).
       8 Turn the fastener (56) to lock the clip (55).
       9 Turn the fastener (58) to lock the clip (57).
       10 Turn the fastener (60) to lock the clip (59).
       11 Turn the fastener (62) to lock the clip (61).
     (i) Put the responder bracket (66) with the responder (68) in position on the support bracket of the fire-detection support rail.
     (j) Install the four bolts (67) to attach the responder (68) on the right side of the engine.
     (k) TORQUE the four bolts (67) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
     (l) Install the nuts (36) and (37) to attach the right harness (35) connectors to the responder (40).
     (m) TORQUE the nut (37) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN )
T.
     (n) TORQUE the nut (36) to between 55 and 50 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.57 m.daN )
T.
     (o) Install the nuts (64) and (65) to attach the left harness (63) connectors to the responder (68).
     (p) TORQUE the nut (65) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN )
T.
     (q) TORQUE the nut (64) to between 55 and 50 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.57 m.daN )
T.
     (r) Engage the plastic jaws (with the harness leads engaged in them) into the spring clips on the responder support brackets (38) and (66).
     (s) Make sure that the clearance between the fire detection elements and the support tube is a minimum of 7 mm (0.28 in.) between:
  • The clips (41) and (43)
  • The clips (47) and (49)
  • The clips (53) and (55)
  • The clips (59) and (61).
   (3) Install the fire detection elements to the Accessory Gearbox (AGB) as follows:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the bolts that follow with engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) :
  • The four bolts (5) and the four bolts (31)
  • The nuts (2) and (3) and the nuts (28) and (29).
     (b) Do a visual check of the fire-detection component interfaces and/or adjacent area.
     (c) Make sure that the plastic jaws and responder brackets removed and retained during the fire-detection element removal are clean and in the serviceable condition.
     (d) Put the responder bracket (4) with the responder (6) in position on the support bracket of the AGB.
     (e) Install the four bolts (5) to attach the upper responder (6) to the AGB bracket.
     (f) TORQUE the four bolts (5) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in ) T.
     (g) Align the fire detection elements (33) and (34) along the route identified by the ten clips.
     (h) One clip at a time, open the clip and align the fire detection elements (33) and (34) in the grooves of the clip. Install the plastic jaws. Close the clips and turn the fasteners one-half turn to lock the clips closed as follows:
       1 Turn the fastener (8) to lock the clip (7).
       2 Turn the fastener (10) to lock the clip (9).
       3 Turn the fastener (12) to lock the clip (11).
       4 Turn the fastener (14) to lock the clip (13).
       5 Turn the fastener (16) to lock the clip (15).
       6 Turn the fastener (18) to lock the clip (17).
       7 Turn the fastener (20) to lock the clip (19).
       8 Turn the fastener (22) to lock the clip (21).
       9 Turn the fastener (24) to lock the clip (23).
       10 Turn the fastener (26) to lock the clip (25).
     (i) Put the responder bracket (30) with the responder (32) in position on the support bracket of the AGB.
     (j) Install the four bolts (31) to attach the lower responder (32) to the AGB bracket.
     (k) TORQUE the four bolts (31) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
     (l) Install the nuts (2) and (3) to attach the harness (1) connectors to the responder (29).
     (m) TORQUE the nuts (2) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN )
T.
     (n) TORQUE the nuts (3) to between 55 and 50 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.57 m.daN )
T.
     (o) Install the nuts (28) and (29) to attach the harness (27) connectors to the responder (2).
     (p) TORQUE the nut (29) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN )
T.
     (q) TORQUE the nut (28) to between 55 and 50 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.57 m.daN )
T.
     (r) Engage the plastic jaws (with the harness leads engaged in them) into the spring clips on the responder support brackets (4) and (30).

   (1) On the upper ECAM DU, make sure that the FIRE ENG1(2) LOOP A (B) FAULT message is out of view.
   (2) Do an operational test of the engine fire detection system (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-00-710-001).
