WARNING:
DO NOT TOUCH THE APU UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT START THE APU WITH ACCESS DOORS 315AL AND 316AR OPEN/REMOVED.
THE APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO EXTINGUISH A FIRE IF THE ACCESS DOORS 315AL AND 316AR ARE OPEN/REMOVED.
1. Reason for the JobTo find the cause of the oil contamination (fuel, oil degradation and other causes).
NOTE: You must get the sample 15 to 30 minutes after APU shutdown and before you add oil to the tank.

C. Get Access
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below APU access door 315AL.
(3) Open APU access door 315AL (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
(4) Set the light switch 11LJ to the ON position.
4. ProcedureWARNING:
BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
(1) Put on and attach the HARNESS, SAFETY before you start work in the work area.(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below APU access door 315AL.
(3) Open APU access door 315AL (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).

A. Get a sample.
(1) Clean the oil tank scupper:
(2) Remove the oil filter cap (1).
(3) Open the oil tank:
(b) Release the pressure on the bottle to get the oil sample.
(c) Fill the BOTTLE - PLASTIC (2) with a quantity of 0.1 to 0.2 l (0.0264 to 0.05 USgal) of oil.
(4) Tag the oil sample with these data:
(6) Make sure that you get the results that follow:
(a) The total acidity number is given in mg KOH/g. The total-acidity number limit is from the oil manufacturer. If the oil manufacturer gave no total-acidity number limit, use a maximum value of 2.0 mg KOH/g.
(b) The water contamination is less than 800 ppm.
(7) Do a check of the oil level in the oil tank.
(a) If there is not sufficient oil, fill the oil tank:
(9) Install the filter cap (1).
5. Close-up(1) Clean the oil tank scupper:
WARNING:
DO NOT REMOVE THE FILLER CAP OF THE OIL TANK IMMEDIATELY AFTER ENGINE OPERATION. LET THE OIL PRESSURE DECREASE FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. IF YOU OPEN THE FILLER CAP WHEN THERE IS PRESSURE IN THE TANK, THE OIL CAN BURN YOU DANGEROUSLY.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE OIL TANK SCUPPER IS CLEAN TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE TANK DURING THE SERVICING OPERATIONS.
(a) Clean the oil tank scupper with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .(2) Remove the oil filter cap (1).
(3) Open the oil tank:
CAUTION:
USE A NEW AND VERY CLEAN PLASTIC BOTTLE WITH A NEW SCREW TOP AND A NEW PLASTIC TUBE. DO NOT USE THESE ITEMS AGAIN.
(a) With your hand, apply pressure on the BOTTLE - PLASTIC (2) and put the free end of the tube into the oil through the filling port (3). (b) Release the pressure on the bottle to get the oil sample.
(c) Fill the BOTTLE - PLASTIC (2) with a quantity of 0.1 to 0.2 l (0.0264 to 0.05 USgal) of oil.
(4) Tag the oil sample with these data:
- Total operation time of the APU
- Operation time since the last oil sampling
- Sampling date
- Identification of the APU (Serial Number)
- Type and brand of the oil used.
- For GTCP 36-300 APU
(Ref. AMM D/O 49-90-00-60) - For APS 3200 APU
