WARNING:
USE THE CORRECT PERSONAL PROTECTION.
OIL CAN HAVE ADDITIVE CALLED TRICRESYL PHOSPHATE IN IT. THIS CHEMICAL IS AN ASPHYXIANT, IT IS POISONOUS AND CAN BE ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN.
USE CARE WHEN ENGINE OIL IS DRAINED. HOT OIL CAN POSSIBLY CAUSE BAD BURNS.
WARNING:
DO NOT TOUCH THE APU UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
CAUTION:
MONITOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION OF THE APU VERY CAREFULLY. IF THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS TOO HIGH, OR IF IT INCREASES SUDDENLY, THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE APU.
NOTE: There are two alternatives to replenish the APU. Both, the gravity or pressure fill procedure are given in the subsequent procedure.
Subtask 49-90-00-612-074-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Oil Level Check
(2) Do the oil level check on the sight glass.
(a) If the oil level is at the FULL mark, it is not necessary to add oil to the APU oil reservoir.
(b) If the oil level is below the FULL mark, do the oil replenishing.
Subtask 49-90-00-612-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: Before the oil level check, make sure that the APU inlet door is closed. If the door is open, the APU did not go through the entire shutdown cycle and adding oil at this point could cause overservicing. The closing of the inlet door is the final step of the shutdown cycle. If the door is open, the APU must be started, run for 5 minutes and correctly shutdown to make sure that the APU inlet door is closed.
NOTE: If the APU page of the ECAM shows 'Low Oil Level' and there is no oil leakage, Airbus recommends to do oil servicing before 10 APU operating hours.
NOTE: Do the Oil level inspection check and servicing a minimum of 15 minutes after the last shutdown. Do not re-service before the APU is operated again.
(1) Make sure that the sight glass of the oil level is clean. If the sight glass is dirty, clean it with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .(2) Do the oil level check on the sight glass.
(a) If the oil level is at the FULL mark, it is not necessary to add oil to the APU oil reservoir.
(b) If the oil level is below the FULL mark, do the oil replenishing.
B. Oil Replenishing (Gravity Fill Procedure)
(1) Put the CONTAINER 3 L(3/4 USGAL) in position below the APU gear box to collect oil leakage.
(2) Make sure that the oil scupper and the oil filler cap are clean. Make them clean with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , if they are dirty.
(3) Open the oil filler cap.
(b) Remove the oil filler cap and make it dry with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(4) Add the oil.
(b) Carefully add the oil until the oil level in the oil reservoir is at the FULL mark on the oil sight glass.
(a) If they are dirty, clean the oil scupper and the oil filler cap areas with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(7) Remove the container.
(8) If oil fell on the APU, the air intake duct and/or the adjacent area, clean them with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(9) If applicable, make an entry of the oil that you added in the APU oil reservoir, in the applicable logbook.
5. Close-up(1) Put the CONTAINER 3 L(3/4 USGAL) in position below the APU gear box to collect oil leakage.
(2) Make sure that the oil scupper and the oil filler cap are clean. Make them clean with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , if they are dirty.
(3) Open the oil filler cap.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DRAIN THE ENGINE OIL AND/OR LOOSEN THE FILLER CAP. HOT OIL CAN SPILL PAST THE FILLER CAP WHEN THE OIL LEVEL IS ABOVE THE 'ADD' RANGE (MARKED ON THE SIGHT GLASS).
(a) Open the lock and slowly loosen the oil filler cap to release remaining pressure from the oil reservoir. (b) Remove the oil filler cap and make it dry with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(4) Add the oil.
WARNING:
PUT THE OIL INTO THE GRAVITY-FILL PORT SLOWLY. THIS WILL PREVENT A BLOW-BACK OF HOT OIL WHICH CAN BURN YOU.
CAUTION:
DO NOT FILL THE GEARBOX ABOVE THE FULL MARK ON THE SIGHT GLASS. DURING APU OPERATION THE OIL EXPANDS WHICH COULD CREATE AN OVER-FILLED CONDITION RESULTING IN LEAKAGE AND POSSIBLE OIL SMELL IN THE CABIN.
(a) Make sure that the oil-can(s) is(are) clean and the oil does not contain unwanted materials. (b) Carefully add the oil until the oil level in the oil reservoir is at the FULL mark on the oil sight glass.
NOTE: If you want to do a brand oil change:
(5) Install and lock the oil filler cap. - do the top-off procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 49-90-00-600-005), or
- do the flush procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 49-90-00-600-005).
If you want to do a type oil change: - do the flush procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 49-90-00-600-005).
NOTE: Make sure that the oil filler cap is tight and locked correctly.
(6) Make sure that the oil scupper and the oil filler cap areas are clean.
