Installation of the Oil Tank


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 79-11-05-941-051-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M (3 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position.
4. Procedure
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE COMPONENTS OF THE OIL SYSTEM IF THE ENGINE IS HOT. THESE COMPONENTS STAY HOTTER THAN OTHER COMPONENTS. HOT COMPONENTS CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE FILLER CAP OF THE OIL TANK IMMEDIATELY AFTER ENGINE OPERATION. LET THE OIL PRESSURE DECREASE FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. IF YOU OPEN THE FILLER CAP WHEN THERE IS PRESSURE IN THE TANK, THE OIL CAN BURN YOU DANGEROUSLY.
WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY. THE OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
Subtask 79-11-05-420-050-A
A. Installation of the Oil Tank
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 30 L(8 USGAL) below the oil tank (1).
   (2) Remove all the COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION from openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (3) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (4) Installation of the oil tank (1) on the mounting brackets:
     (a) Install the 956A7615 ADAPTER, REMOVE/INSTALL - OIL TANK on the 956A7649 JACK, REMOVE/INSTALL - BOTTOM LRU.
     (b) Install the oil tank (1) on the 956A7615 ADAPTER, REMOVE/INSTALL - OIL TANK.
     (c) Install the oil tank (1) in the correct position on the engine.
     (d) Lubricate the threads of the two bolts (9), two bolts (11), four bolts (13) and four nuts (15) with the graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
     (e) Install the rear mounting bracket (10) in the correct position on the engine.
     (f) Install the four bolts (16) and the four nuts (15) to attach the rear mounting bracket (10) on the engine and tighten them with your hand.
     (g) TORQUE the four nuts (15) to between 120.81 and 109.30 lbf.in (1.37 and 1.24 m.daN ) T.
     (h) Install the four bolts (13) to attach the oil tank (1) to the middle mounting bracket (14) and tighten them with your hand.
     (i) TORQUE the four bolts (13) to between 120.81 and 109.30 lbf.in (1.37 and 1.24 m.daN )
T.
     (j) Install the two bolts (11) to attach the oil tank (1) to the front mounting bracket (12) and tighten them with your hand.
     (k) TORQUE the two bolts (11) to between 252 and 228 lbf.in (2.85 and 2.58 m.daN )
T.
     (l) Install the two bolts (9) to attach the oil tank (1) to the rear mounting bracket (10) and tighten them with your hand.
     (m) TORQUE the two bolts (9) to between 252 and 228 lbf.in (2.85 and 2.58 m.daN )
T.
     (n) Remove the
956A7615 ADAPTER, REMOVE/INSTALL - OIL TANK from the oil tank (1).
   (5) Connection of the oil tube (6) and drain tube (4) on the oil tank (1)
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the coupling nut (5), the four bolts (7) and the new EIPC 79-11-05-01-020 GASKET (8) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (b) Put the new gasket and the oil tube (6) in the correct position.
     (c) Install the four bolts (7) to attach the oil tube (6) on the oil tank (1) and tighten them with your hand.
     (d) TORQUE the four bolts (7) to between 120.81 and 109.31 lbf.in (1.37 and 1.24 m.daN ) T.
     (e) Engage and tighten the coupling nut (5) of the drain tube (4) with your hand.
     (f) TORQUE the coupling nut (5) to between 300 and 262 lbf.in (3.39 and 2.96 m.daN )
T.
   (6) Install the oil-debris monitoring separator (
Ref. AMM TASK 79-36-05-400-801).
   (7) Install the oil level sensor (Ref. AMM TASK 79-31-05-400-801).
   (8) Remove the CONTAINER 30 L(8 USGAL) from below the oil tank (1).
   (9) If you receive the oil tank without the plugs (Ref. AMM TASK 79-11-05-960-802).

B. Do the Replenishing of the Oil Tank
   (1) Replenish the oil tank (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-805).

C. Test
   (1) Do the idle test (menu mode) (Ref. AMM TASK 73-29-00-740-803).
5. Close-up

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
