Drain the Engine Oil


WARNING: WAIT FIVE MINUTES MINIMUM TO MAKE SURE THAT THE OIL SYSTEM IS NOT PRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU DO THIS PROCEDURE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS WARNING, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE OIL AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 79-00-00-680-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Drain the Engine Oil
   (1) Drain the oil tank as follows:
F Engine Oil Tank ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Find the oil tank on the left side of the engine attached to the fan case.
     (b) Put a CONTAINER 40 L (10 USGAL), below the oil tank drain plug (1).
NOTE: Approximately 10 USgal (37.85 l) of oil will drain if the oil tank is full. More than one container can be necessary.
     (c) Remove the drain plug (1) from the oil tank.
     (d) Drain the oil from the oil tank for approximately 30 minutes.
     (e) Remove and discard the packing (2) from the drain plug (1).
   (2) Drain the oil from the Main Gear Box (MGB) as follows:
F Engine Oil Main Gearbox ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Find the drain plug (12) located on the bottom of the MGB.
     (b) Put a CONTAINER 40 L (10 USGAL) below the gearbox drain plug (12).
     (c) Remove the drain plug (12) from the MGB.
     (d) Drain the oil from the MGB for approximately 30 minutes.
     (e) Remove and discard the packing (13) from the drain plug (12).
   (3) Drain the oil from the oil tank supply manifold (LP02), MGB breather manifold (LB02) and MGB scavenge manifold (LR02) as follows:
F Drain the Engine Oil ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Find the three drain plugs (23) located on the manifolds (LP02), (LB02) and (LR02).
     (b) Put a CONTAINER 40 L (10 USGAL) below the manifolds (LP02), (LB02) and (LR02).
     (c) Remove the drain plugs (23) as follows:
CAUTION: DO NOT PRY ON THE RETENTION TAB TO REMOVE THE DRAIN PLUG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE DRAIN PLUG CAN OCCUR.
       1 Loosen the three drain plug retention bolts (24) on the manifolds.
       2 Turn the three drain plugs (23) to disengage the retention tabs from under the bolts (24).
       3 Hold the drain plugs (23) by the square, turn and pull it as necessary to remove it from the manifolds.
       4 Remove and discard the packings (25).
   (4) Drain the oil from the starter (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-00-680-801).
   (5) Inspect the magnetic chip collectors for oil system contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-802).
   (6) Remove the main oil filter element and drain the oil from the oil filter housing (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-06-960-801).
   (7) Install a new oil filter element (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-06-960-801).
   (8) Install the drain plug (1) on the oil tank as follows:
F Engine Oil Tank ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Apply P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine or Sealing Ring Lubricant (Material No.P06-053) to the threads of the drain plug (1) and a new EIPC 79-11-01-01-141 PACKING (2).
     (b) Install the packing (2) on the drain plug (1).
     (c) Install the drain plug (1) on the oil tank.
     (d) TORQUE the drain plug (1) to between 625 and 600 lbf.in (7.06 and 6.78 m.daN )
T.
     (e) Wipe clean the area with a lint-free cotton cloth (Material No.
P05-005) .
   (9) Install the drain plug (12) on the MGB as follows:
F Engine Oil Main Gearbox ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Apply P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine to the threads of the drain plug (12) and a new EIPC 72-61-01-02-218 PACKING (13).
     (b) Install the packing (13) on the drain plug (12).
     (c) Install the drain plug (12) on the MGB.
     (d) TORQUE the drain plug (12) to between 230 and 210 lbf.in (2.60 and 2.37 m.daN )

     (e) Safety the drain plug (12).
WARNING: USE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Safety the plug (12) with Lockwire (Material No.
P05-289) or Safety Cable (Material No.P05-291) and Safety Cable Ferrule (Material No.P05-292) . If necessary, refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-813) or (Ref. AMM TASK 70-24-00-910-811).
   (10) Install the three drain plugs (23) on the manifolds (LP02), (LB02) and (LR02) as follows:
F Drain the Engine Oil ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Apply P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine to the new EIPC 79-21-49-01-130 PACKINGS (25).
     (b) Install the three packings (25) on the three drain plugs (23).
     (c) Install the drain plugs (23) on the manifolds as follows:
CAUTION: DO NOT PUSH ON THE RETENTION TAB TO INSTALL THE DRAIN PLUG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE DRAIN PLUG CAN OCCUR.
       1 Hold the drain plugs (23) at the square and press and turn the drain plugs until they fully seats against the manifolds.
       2 Make sure that the drain plugs (23) are fully seated against the mating surface.
       3 Turn the drain plugs (23) so that the retention tabs are under the bolts (24).
       4 TORQUE the three drain plug bolts (24) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN )

   (11) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.
