C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the applicable thrust-reverser cowl-door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)
451AL or 452AR
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
461AL or 462AR.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-32-34-420-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Thrust Reverser Blocker Door Fairing
   (1) Removal of the protection covers
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.

   (2) Install the upper blocker door fairing (2):
NOTE: This procedure is for the left thrust reverser upper blocker door fairing. The procedure for the right thrust reverser upper blocker door fairing is symmetrical.
     (a) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
     (b) Loosely install the upper blocker door fairing (2) on the translating sleeve structure with the five AIPC 78-32-05-70-030 BOLTS (4)AIPC 78-32-05-85-030 BOLTS (4)AIPC 78-32-06-70-030 BOLTS (4)AIPC 78-32-06-85-030 BOLTS (4), the AIPC 78-32-05-70-010 BOLT (3)AIPC 78-32-05-85-010 BOLT (3)AIPC 78-32-06-70-010 BOLT (3)AIPC 78-32-06-85-010 BOLT (3) and the 12 AIPC 78-32-05-70-080 WASHERS (1)AIPC 78-32-05-85-080 WASHERS (1).
       1 Do not torque the bolts (4) and (3) at this time.
     (c) Adjust the upper blocker door fairing (2) as follows:
       1 Push the upper blocker door fairing (2) against the translating sleeve structure.
       2 Measure and record the height between the upper blocker door fairing (2) and the inner bond panel of the translating sleeve structure.
       3 Remove the fasteners and the upper blocker door fairing (2) from the translating sleeve structure.
         a Make sure that you do not drop the washers into the structure of the translating sleeve.
       4 Adjust the number of washers, if necessary, until the height between the upper blocker door fairing (2) and the inner bond panel of the translating sleeve structure is between 0.000 in. (0.000 mm) and 0.060 in. (1.524 mm).
NOTE: You can use the NAS1149C0332R or the NAS1149C0363R washers as alternatives to the NAS1149C0316R washers, as necessary.
NOTE: You can use the washers with a maximum total thickness of 0.13 in. (3.30 mm) at one or more of the fastener locations.
         a If the thickness of the washers is more than 0.098 in. (2.489 mm), use a one-grip-length longer bolt (3) or (4) at the applicable fastener location.
         b If the thickness of the washers is less than 0.032 in. (0.813 mm), use a one-grip-length shorter bolt (3) or (4) at the applicable fastener location.
     (d) Mix the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant, PU4-0004Acuring solution, epoxy primer and thinner (Material No.PU4-0005) or thinner (Material No.PU4-0008) . Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
NOTE: You can use the following as alternatives to the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant mixture:
  • The base primer (Material No.PU4-0002C) , PU4-0004Acuring solution, epoxy primer and thinner (Material No.PU4-0005) or thinner (Material No.PU4-0008) ,
  • The base primer (Material No.PU4-0002D) and the curing solution (Material No.PU4-0009) ,
  • The base primer (Material No.PU4-0002E) and the converter (Material No.PU4-0007) .
     (e) Apply a bead of the threadlocker (Material No.PU3-0031) to the threads adjacent to the first thread of the five bolts (4).
       1 Do not apply the threadlocker (Material No.PU3-0031) on the first thread.
     (f) Install the upper blocker door fairing (2) on the translating sleeve structure with the five bolts (4), bolt (3), washers (1) and washers that you adjusted in step 4.A.(2)(c)4_.
       1 Wet-install the bolts (4) with the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant mixture.
         a Do not apply the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant on the bolt (3) at this time.
NOTE: You can attach the washers together with the cyanoacrylate adhesive (Material No.PU3-0032) for an easier installation.
     (g) Lightly push the upper blocker door fairing (2) against the center of the forward edge.
       1 TORQUE the bolt (3) to between 35 and 27 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.31 m.daN ) T.
     (h) TORQUE the five bolts (4) to between 35 and 27 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.31 m.daN )
T.
     (i) Remove the bolt (3) and apply a bead of the threadlocker (Material No.
PU3-0031) to the threads adjacent to the first thread.
       1 Do not apply the threadlocker (Material No.PU3-0031) on the first thread.
     (j) Install the bolt (3) on the upper blocker door fairing (2) and translating sleeve structure. Wet-install the bolt (3) with the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant mixture.
       1 Make sure that you keep the washers behind the upper blocker door fairing (2) in position.
     (k) TORQUE the bolt (3) to between 35 and 27 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.31 m.daN ) T.

   (3) Install the upper blocker door fairing (6).
NOTE: This procedure is for the left thrust reverser upper blocker door fairing. The procedure for the right thrust reverser upper blocker door fairing is symmetrical.
     (a) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
     (b) Mix the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant, PU4-0004Acuring solution, epoxy primer and thinner (Material No.
PU4-0005) . Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
     (c) Install the upper blocker door fairing (6) on the translating sleeve structure with the six bolts (7). Wet-install the bolts (7) with the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant mixture.
     (d) TORQUE the six bolts (7) to between 35 and 30 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.34 m.daN ) T.

   (4) Install the lower blocker door fairing (5).
NOTE: This procedure is for the left thrust reverser lower blocker door fairing. The procedure for the right thrust reverser lower blocker door fairing is symmetrical.
     (a) Loosely install the lower blocker door fairing (5) on the translating sleeve structure with the five
AIPC 78-32-05-70-030 BOLTS (4)AIPC 78-32-05-85-030 BOLTS (4)AIPC 78-32-06-70-030 BOLTS (4)AIPC 78-32-06-85-030 BOLTS (4), the AIPC 78-32-05-70-020 BOLT (3)AIPC 78-32-05-85-020 BOLT (3)AIPC 78-32-06-70-020 BOLT (3)AIPC 78-32-06-85-020 BOLT (3) and the 12 AIPC 78-32-06-70-080 WASHERS (1)AIPC 78-32-06-85-080 WASHERS (1).
       1 Do not torque the bolts (4) and (3) at this time.
     (b) Adjust the lower blocker door fairing (5) as follows:
       1 Push the lower blocker door fairing (5) against the translating sleeve structure.
       2 Measure and record the height between the lower blocker door fairing (5) and the inner bond panel of the translating sleeve structure.
       3 Remove the fasteners and the lower blocker door fairing (5) from the translating sleeve structure.
         a Make sure that you do not drop the washers into the structure of the translating sleeve.
       4 Adjust the number of washers as necessary until the height between the lower blocker door fairing (5) and the inner bond panel of the translating sleeve structure is between 0.000 in. (0.000 mm) and 0.060 in. (1.524 mm).
NOTE: You can use the NAS1149C0332R or the NAS1149C0363R washers as alternatives to the NAS1149C0316R washers, as necessary.
NOTE: You can use the washers with a maximum total thickness of 0.13 in. (3.30 mm) at one or more of the fastener locations.
         a If the thickness of the washers is more than 0.098 in. (2.489 mm), use a one-grip-length longer bolt (3) or (4) at the applicable fastener location.
         b If the thickness of the washers is less than 0.032 in. (0.813 mm), use a one-grip-length shorter bolt (3) or (4) at the applicable fastener location.
     (c) Mix the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant, PU4-0004Acuring solution, epoxy primer and thinner (Material No.PU4-0005) . Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
     (d) Apply a bead of the threadlocker (Material No.PU3-0031) to the threads adjacent to the first thread of the five bolts (4).
       1 Do not apply the threadlocker (Material No.PU3-0031) on the first thread.
     (e) Install the lower blocker door fairing (5) on the translating sleeve structure with the five bolts (4), bolt (3), washers (1) and washers that you adjusted in step 4.A.(4)(b)4_.
       1 Wet-install the bolts (4) with the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant mixture.
         a Do not apply the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant on the bolt (3) at this time.
NOTE: You can attach the washers together with the cyanoacrylate adhesive (Material No.PU3-0032) for an easier installation.
     (f) Lightly push the lower blocker door fairing (5) against the center of the forward edge.
       1 TORQUE the bolt (3) to between 35 and 27 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.31 m.daN ) T.
     (g) TORQUE the five bolts (4) to between 35 and 27 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.31 m.daN )
T.
     (h) Remove the bolt (3) and apply a bead of the threadlocker (Material No.
PU3-0031) to the threads adjacent to the first thread.
       1 Do not apply the threadlocker (Material No.PU3-0031) on the first thread.
     (i) Install the bolt (3) on the lower blocker door fairing (5) and translating sleeve structure. Wet-install the bolt (3) with the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant.
       1 Make sure that you keep the washers behind the lower blocker door fairing (5) in position.
     (j) TORQUE the bolt (3) to between 35 and 27 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.31 m.daN ) T.

   (5) Install the lower blocker door fairing (8).
NOTE: This procedure is for the left thrust reverser lower blocker door fairing. The procedure for the right thrust reverser lower blocker door fairing is symmetrical.
     (a) Mix the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant, PU4-0004Acuring solution, epoxy primer and thinner (Material No.
PU4-0005) . Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
     (b) Install the lower blocker door fairing (8) on the translating sleeve structure with the six bolts (7). Wet-install the bolts (7) with the PU4-0002epoxy primer, fluid resistant mixture.
     (c) TORQUE the six bolts (7) to between 35 and 30 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.34 m.daN ) T.

   (6) If necessary, adjust the applicable blocker doors (
Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-33-820-801).
